Best

The wife and I were quite pleased with the well behaved gaited horses we rode! She rode Smarty Pants, and I was on Clyde. The staff was pleasant, and safety was stressed with all ...

Worst

We had called ahead a couple of days and made a reservation but yet when we got there, which was 10 minutes before our scheduled time obviously because we knew we had to fill out ...

Love them! 3/9/2011

I truly love Sun City stables. Their horses are very responsive. No need for spurs on these animals. Their horses can be used for any level of rider. If you have experience with horses you will get a very good response from all their stock. If you are a beginner then use one of the guides they offer. You can't beat $20.00 an hour. If you purchase 2 hours you get the 3rd hour free. My highlight of the week is the 1 hour trip to Sun City stables. Some of their horses are so talented. Recently I have gotten into visiting with all the other animals. They are very sweet. Their animals are fed well, watered well, and loved. Shaded stalls are provided for the horses. I have been to many other stables (in 3 states) where I have witnessed animal abuse. I have been coming to Sun City stables for about a year now and I never witnessed any abuse towards their animals in any way. Their staff is very knowledgeable and professional. Bring a few carrots if you come..make some horse friends! more

Fun! 3/4/2011

We had a great time and everything was perfect even for beginner riders like ourselves. more

Very helpful and cheery 2/23/2011

Being new to Florida, I searched long and hard for a place to sate my horse-cravings and thanks to their website, I found Sun City Stables. My first outing was more than pleasant, it was amazing! My brother (who was visiting) and I had the greatest time while there; the staff was very helpful and cheery and the horses they gave us were awesome. I've been around horses most of my life and regretfully had to leave my own behind upon moving to FL, but spending time with those well-mannered, well-cared for animals was a more than a treat, it was a small slice of home. I have been back several times and each experience is better than the last. It's a guilty pleasure (for I still love horses and always will), but one I look forward to with alacrity more

Pleasantly surprised! 2/23/2011

Pleasantly surprised! Great value! I almost passed this place up because of the bad reviews but really wanted to ride with more freedom (unguided) so my four daughters and I went. The staff was friendly and took time to match us up with appropriate horses. The horses were all in great shape and good natured even though we went at the end of the day (typically not a good time for horse rentals). Those who griped about this place are looking for a ""Disney Experience"" so they should stay in Orlando. The open but tented stalls are perfect for our hot climate and the horses get free reign over 40 acres after hours. Important advice: The best rider needs to take the lead horse and if you're not confident, pay for a guide for at least the first hour. Once you get to know the trails and the horses you can go unguided. Avoid the trail that leads back to the stalls until you are ready to go back! If you take this trail and then try to turn around, you'll have to persuade the horse! more

You won't find a better facility 1/27/2011

If you are looking for a great place to ride this is it! The horses are well behaved and some are the best I have ever ridden. Sun City stables staff really practice good care of their horses. They are well fed, well groomed, loved, and are given stalls to enjoy the shade. You won't find a better facility anywhere as far as the price, staff friendliness, responsiveness of their horses and hours of operation. I travel almost an hour every week to enjoy this facility. Some of their horses are like magic. Riding here is the highlight of my week. I highly recommend Sun City stables. more

Knowledgeable and helpful 1/24/2011

Sun City Stables is a rarity: not many establishments today will allow you to simply mount up and ""ride off into the sunset."" However, that's exactly what SCS gives you: a fun, friendly environment to explore and escape the drone of everyday life. There is not better deal in the South/Central FL area--and believe me, I have searched like crazy. The horses are beautiful and happy, and the staff is knowledgeable and helpful as well. They even gave us bugspray! more

All a rider needs 1/18/2011

Okay let's be honest here. Sun City Stables is owned by good Christian people and they have the very best prices. They can't be beat. I've read some of the reviews in regards to their horse care. Their horses are well fed and well taken care of. Anyone who says any different is distorting the truth. I rode at this stable weekly for about 2 years. I am an avid rider so I have ridden at a few stables in my day. This is by far one of the BEST. The trails are very good. Like any trail ride the rain makes it less enjoyable. Horses are incredibly intelligent and sensitive to the rider so if a rider complains about their ride they probably do not have enough experience to handle a particular horse. If you know your ""horse stuff"" then you will enjoy this stable. If you are not experienced then ask for a guide (they are very inexpensive). Experienced rider or not you will enjoy your experience at this stable. My ONLY complaint would be in the area of refunds. In 99% of cases the rider is at fault so a refund would not be due, but their are a few occasions where the horse or other circumstances would warrant a refund or a partial refund. more

Amazing price 1/12/2011

Oh man...this was the most fun three hours I have had in a long time! It's an amazing price as well...my four friends and I put in three hours of riding for a measly $40 bucks each! Not bad, compared to the prices of other establishments in my area. I would recommend Sun City to anyone and everyone. And I do! more

Absolutely adored 1/11/2011

What a great ride! I am sure in the drier months its better! I will definetly return to Sun City! I absolutely adored my horse who was El Peppy! He was so so beautiful! Service was nice. Coool petting zoo! On my ride we had no guide, 3 young ladies ages ranging (13-14) one whom had only ridden once and one whom had only been riding for a year, and I have been riding six years. VERY VERY COOL! We didn't get lost! Most of the other reviews were probably cause those people aren't assertive to their horse! You NEED to make sure your the boss, these horses are VERY VERY VERY TESTY! After that they are wonderful! HAVE FUN AND GO ENJOY! more

Great place to ""get away"" 1/11/2011

A great place to ""get away"" from it all, by yourself...or bring the family, the animals and staff are great! My daughter and I always have a special time. Don't miss the pig, cows, miniture horses and more! more

Absolutely love this place 1/7/2011

My husband took me here as a surprise for Mother's Day. It was recommended to him by a co-worker who loves horse and does show jumping as a hobby. I absolutely love the place. I highly recommend that you pay for a guide the first time out as the trails are not marked and they take a little getting used to. Our guide (David) was extremely knowledgable and curteous. He told us everything we needed to know in the first half hour of our trip and then we were able to go on our own for the next two and half hours. One review said here to be aware of a horse named ""Diamond"". I rode her today! She was great! The only thing to remember is that horses in any trail ride always want to return to their stable and look forward to the ride out ending and they know how to get back to the stables on their own and will try to take the trails that lead back. Once you know your way around a bit, it is quite easy to keep them going on the trails. It took firm handling sometimes but she did listen. And as a note, the guide gave us several tips on handling the horses properly so they would listen to us. We definitley plan on coming back and consider this place the best deal around as far as the freedom they give you. They also have no age limit on lessons for kids which is really great as we have two daughters who will be ready to start learning soon. Pros: Many trails to explore, option of no guide Cons: Trails not marked, worth paying for guide first time more

DON'T GO HERE!!! 9/14/2010

My boyfriend and I drove 3.5 hours to go riding here because we specifically wanted to be unguided on horses, (as in, not a trail ride). We get there and find no directions to which crappy trailer is the office...all we find is countless horses, bunnies, sheep, cattle in dusty, small, hot enclosures (it was about 100 degrees outside when we went) and had to go on a walkabout to find someone to help us with our ""appointment"". We finally found a lady to help us, who was friendly enough. They quickly took our money and had us sign a release. The lady gave me the horse mentioned above, ""Diamond"", and my boyfriend another horse (I forget it's name). She took us out to where the trails began in the woods, and we went about our way... more

I would come back again and again 5/9/2010

Great time 4/8/2010

Family spent the day riding. They had a great time. It's a great value. It is NOT for people who looking for an easy ride. The area is pretty rough and you'll likely get wet and dirty. Be aware that you need decent clothing, typical for horse riding. This isn't a pony ride where you can wear shorts and sandals. We were nearly scared off due to some of the reviews. If you're a good rider and can handle horses and rough country the place is great as there are lots of area to explore. The group we were in ranged from children from 8 to adults. All have some experience riding. I wouldn't recommend this for a rank beginner. It's not a trail ride where the horses know the trail and follow it. You HAVE to know how to get the horse to go where you want to go. The people will stay with you for a few minutes to make sure you get going, but then you're on your own. We'd definitely do it again if we are ever back this way. Pros: Unguided riding, nice well cared for horses Cons: Horses could be stuborn, trails could be marked better more

Worst place ever!!!! DONT GO!!! 10/3/2009

I went to Sun City Stables with my husband for what we hoped would be a nice horseback riding experience, which quickly turned into a total nightmare! The place is a total dump, the horses are kept in a tiny space with tarps over them. The ""Office"" is a beat up nasty trailer, and our ""Guide"" was a sad excuse and looked as if he were raised by animals. We explained to these people that we had very little riding experience, we were given two horses which didnt follow our commands. The trails were muddy and filled with trees and broken branches, my horse took me in between 2 trees and my leg was cut badly. We decided to go back after 20 minutes and asked for a partial refund due to the fact that we paid for 3 hours. We were denied a refund!!!! This place is pretty pothetic and so are the people there, I feel bad for the animals! Dont go...you definitly get what you pay for there, pay the extra 20 bucks an hour and find a quality place. Pros: NOTHING Cons: EVERYTHING more

HORRIBLE 6/11/2009

I went to sun city stables with my friend who was turning 18. We both love horses and i am an experienced rider so we thought it would be fun. First of all when we got there there was no where to park. Then we went to the ""office"" to pay whick was this tiny dirty dirty trailer. They took our money fast and we waited around to get a horse. This couple had come from the trails and they were on two horses the two that they gave to us as soon as thet got off. The horses didnt even have a chance to rest or drink or anything! They told us to walk them to the far gate where the trails started bc if not they would pull you back to their stalls. so we did that..got on the horses and went. After the first 10 minutes of riding through the horrible tight unkept trails with a branch hitting you in the face every 5 secs my friends horse decided he wanted to turn around. He bucked and she fell right off. We immediately went back to exchange her horse and told them what happened. They exchanged the horse and right when my friend got off these two girls that looked about 14 15 got there and they gave my friends horse to one of them again not giving it time to rest and knowing what had just happened. We went back in the trails and about 20 min later saw the horse that my friend was on running back to the stables with noone on it!Turns out the horse bucked her off and she fell and couldnt feel her legs!the ambulence came and everything..Those people are stupid and careless. I dont know what else to say... Cons: do NOT waste your money here..even if its a good price! more

JUST GIVE ME YOUR MONEY! 4/3/2009

I have been to this stable a few times, but I will never go back. This place looks like the film location of the show Sanford and Son. This is a REAL junkyard with many old trailers all over the place. The main office is a tiny dumpy trailer. You NEVER, EVER get a refund here. If you have a bad ride, take a fall etc. well too bad. They keep your money no matter what the situation is. They have a couple of horses that are dangerous. You cannot control them. Beware of the horse named ""Diamond"" I ran into a fellow who rode there and he told me that they were going to let him ride an unbroke horse! He was a regular rider and they had some disagreement so this was the stable managers daughter's answer to the problem. How dangerous! If you reserve a horse way ahead of time there is no guarantee that you will get to ride it when you get there, because if a better ""DEAL"" comes along for them they will rent your horse out to a group of people so they can make more money. Stay away from this stable!! Pros: fair price for the time to ride Cons: dangerous animals, money hungry staff, unapologetic more

ride from hell..dont go 1/19/2009

I do not recomend SCS to anybody. The horses & other animals were uncared for (no food or water ANYWHERE). The horse i rode did not listen to simple commands. The staff was not concerned about their customers at all, Only their money. The staff is uneducated in equine care and training. There was feces hanging in the fur of the goats and the babies were undernurished. DONT GO IT""S VERY SAD if you are a animal lover. Cons: dirty, dangerous for people & the animals that are there more

GOTTA KNOW HOW TO RIDE! 12/19/2008

I took my family out this past weekend to Sun City stables and it was pleasant. The horses are well cared for and responsive. If one truly knows how to ride then a horse will not come back to the stables or refuse to go through a gate. Horses know what you DON'T know in a big hurry. If a horse is controlling where you want to go then you probably need more experience riding. We had no trouble getting our horses to obey. Of course like most horses they will still TEST you sometimes. Well, I've seen fancier stables, but they charge an arm an a leg to ride and you have to kick the horses to death to get them to move along. I highly recommend (SCS) for the price, trails, responsiveness of the horses and because they take care of ALL their animals. They are fed well. Pros: great price - responsive horses - great trails - great hours of operation Cons: could have some fancier barns and such more
