Best

I ordered 4 dozen cupcakesfor my daughter's 21st birthday. The sorority loved them.

Worst

Trying to find a spice cake here in the south is almost impossible. No people, it's not the same as carrot cake. So when my birthday rolled around, I gave my husband the almost...

becarful 12/31/2008

i recently ordered a birthday cake for my son he has an egg alergy and sugarland said they could make me a egg free cake so i paid a $7 alergy fee and $38 for a cake that tasted like a cheap box of cake mix it was awful!! and the icing, oh the icing was terriable!!! it tasted worse than a can of icing! the ink sugar print was awful i don't think they use edable ink for those pictures. so if you have an alergy i think your better off going to harris teeter and buying your own box of cake mix and making it yourself and save 40 bucks. more

Horror Story About Customer Service: STRONGLY DO NOT RECOMMEND 12/5/2008

I wish I could give this sorry excuse for a dessert place negative stars. The last time I visited this supposedly ""regal"" establishment, I was met with the most hostile and humiliating customer service I have ever experienced. I will briefly recap the incident that has caused me to boycott this restaurant: there was a misunderstanding about what a friend of mine had said and the owner irrationally ignored all explanations and proceeded to berate and humiliate us, with a barrage of curse words, in front of a store full of people. Never in my life have I been treated with such disrespect and at no point did we sink to her level of savagery. But suffice it to say that the owner is emotionally unstable and has no idea what customer service looks like. I have heard from employees and other customers about other horror stories of angry rants and the mistreatment of customers by the owner and I find her behavior utterly reprehensible. I urge everyone to NEVER VISIT SUGARLAND simply upon the grounds that if an owner that has no regard for her customers, she should not be rewarded with business. Pros: Absolutely nothing. Cons: The worst customer service in the nation. more

Yumm!!!! 9/28/2008

I confess, I am a sugar fiend, but even so, I love this place. While sitting there reading a book, the bakers come out of the kitchen with tray after tray of treat...hot chocolate chips cookies.....strawberry cupcakes. It's maddening. The gelato is amazing. Try the pistachio, Wow! It's better than any pistachio ice cream I have ever tasted.\r \r It does get very crowded and very loud, and that is kind of a pain, but there is nothing like it anywhere in the Triangle.\r \r Pros: Delicious treats Cons: Very crowded more

Staff needs to know product! 6/3/2008

Ordered a chocolate croissant, as employee went to get one, I asked if she was sure it was a chocolate croissant? She looked, replied yes and gave me an almond croissant. This was a to go order and actually trusted the employee, realized that I was right to begin with in questioning. I should have trusted my gut, after all my years of ordering chocolate croissant's, including France. They are shaped completely different than a regular croissant. I'd say there was some work to be done on training! more

Not very friendly 5/29/2008

I have only tried to go to Sugarland one time. When I asked if I could sample a flavor of gelato I was told no because the owner would not allow it. It's safe to say I won't try to go back again. Cons: Unfriendly Staff more

Love It! 5/25/2008

\r \r We first encountered Sugarland at the Carolina Inn bridal show in February. The had this amazing creme brulee and raspberry cake that they were sampling out. I ended up ordering my daughters sweet sixteen cake from them. It was totally amazing. Creme Brulee buttercream. My kids have become Sugarland addicts. We love the gelato and it's great to be able to have a glass of wine in on a night out with the kids.\r \r Posted 05/25/08 | more

Delicious and beautiful 4/28/2008

The first time I walked into Sugarland was about a week after it opened. It's hard to believe that it used to be Julian's mens shop. The store is bright and beautiful and the rehab job they did is gorgeous. One of my favorite things about the stuff at Sugarland is that it is people sized food. I can eat a brownie there and not feel gross because it is too much. The quality really shines through and I appreciate the choice of quality over quantity.\r \r Sugarland's gelato is amazing. I had kiwi and mexican chocolate last time I was there, and blood-orange and pistachio the time beofre that. It is the best gelato I've had in the states. The espresso is good and the affogatos are authentic, not like a a lot of coffee shops which are just basically making frappicinos. \r \r I love Sugarland. I am not sure what the person below me is talking about. Amelia's closed a while ago, only to be replaced with a place that is called Franklin Sweets who has stuff that looks like it belongs in the Rams Head cafeteria, like jello. Pros: Delicious Sweets Cons: Very crowded more

Pretty Good 4/9/2008

I've only been here once. I had an affagato, which came in a triple shot glass - extremely small, especially for the price. The affagatos at Caffe Driade (further down Franklin St) cost about the same and are much bigger and better tasting. Also, I don't know what the person under me is saying about there finally being a bakery in Chapel Hill. Amelia's is located on the other side of the Franklin Street in University Square and has been there for quite a while. They sell gelato and a wider variety of cakes than Sugarland. Sugarland's gelato is very good though. more

Welcome to Franklin St. 2/27/2008

I am so happy that chapel hill finally has a bakery. it is quite the commuity gathering place on Franklin St. While we were there, college students, moms with strollers and movie goers all filed in and out with yummy treats in hand. It's brightly lit and the decor is gorgeous. I had a cannoli and my partner had a danish that was left from their morning items. both were very good. I can only imagine how great the Danish would be fresh in the morning. I especially enjoyed my espresso( which was very well made) being served in a proper cup. All in all, Sugarland is a class act. Pros: wonderful atmosphere Cons: wish they served meals more

Best french pastry anywhere in town 2/8/2008

I took my family on opening day. We had an english toffee scone, a blueberry scone, and a cinnamon roll. All were excellent! I would highly recommend to anyone looking for outstanding home-made pastry around Chapel Hill. The staff is delightful, and the restaurant spacious. My wife and I will have to check out the Creme Brulee and a glass of wine one of these nights coming up. Pros: Amazing pastry - fresh made DAILY! more
