Best

Stumptown has some great bold coffee. Highly recommend you try.

Worst

Roasted too dark like Starbuck's for way too much. The local shops feel like tacky franchises

Editorial review from Citysearch 1/31/2014

Was lucky enough to hit a second location on my last visit. Amazing coffee. I got a Hairbender espresso and then went out and climbed trees. more

Coffee Snobs Unite! 7/23/2007

Stumptown is only tasteless to those whose palates require heaping spoonfuls of sugar, creamer, and artificial flavorings. I'm surprised that Stumptown, with their notoriously high standards, allows places like Vivace and New Seasons to serve (mutilate) their espresso. Those in Portland who recognize the difference between the rich, deep, velvety, creamy, bittersweet-chocolatey goodness of an expertly crafted macchiato, and the giant dose of sugary sludge Starbucks shamefully deems a ""caramel macchiato,""also know where to find it: Stumptown and/or The Albina Press, the only place I know of to get Stumptown right. Pros: Real Baristas. more

Mocha was horrible 6/29/2007

Tried out the Stumptown at 4525 SE Division for the first time. I've had Stumptown at other places like Vivace's on 23rd and have liked them a lot. The coffee at this place, however, is horrible. The mocha that I ordered had absolutely no flavor to it. I've gotten more flavor drinking water out of the tap. Would not recommend it. I know that I will not be returning for another visit. Pros: Has a parking lot Cons: indifferent barista's and bad coffee more

Best flippin' coffee EVER! 10/25/2006

You know, the best part about Stumptown are their business ethics. They are a responsible community business that deserves all of our support... and the coffee! Holy shmolly the coffee is unbeatable! more

of course the coffee is great, BUT.... 10/21/2006

what the hell is up with an exclusively male work force in the roastery? sure seems to be a tattooed boys-only club. as progressive as stumptown is in other areas, it's a real bummer to see that. more

Best brewed coffee in town 6/8/2006

service was terrific, coffee is fantastic, bought some beans and made the best home brewed Pros: terrific brewed coffe and beans Cons: weak mochas more

No place better! 5/2/2006

I love stumptown, I tell everyone about stumptown. If you love coffee you need to try stumptown, if you like coffee you will end up loving coffee after stumptown. We are so lucky that we get to enjoy stumptown here in the NW. There are so many cool places in Oregon that serve stumptown. Orgasmic coffee! Pros: Everything more

WORST EVER EXPERIENCE 3/17/2006

I have been to many Cafe's whether in the Midwest, Eastern, Southeastern, or Northeastern part of the United States and NEVER have I EVER had an experience quite like this. I wouldn't recommend this business if you paid me. I went to TWO locations just thinking maybe it was the location but both 3rd and Division had thEE Worst customer service! There was a lady at 3rd I swear was the manager and she was EXTREMELY RUDE for no reason. And I said please & thank you nicely and didn't waste time ordering! They were extremely rude. I took my drinks sat down and they were horrible tasting let alone cold. Pros: none are you kidding? Cons: everything! more

Sweet Stumptown 1/20/2006

I stop every morning (on Div.) when I go to work, for my latte (I don't have to ask, they just get it ready when I am in line). It is always amazing! I used to put tons of sugar in my Starbucks to cut the burnt taste, but Stumptown coffee isn't over-roasted so now I use zero sugar. There's a girl, I think her name's April, she is so nice, always smiling;I told her that I had moved, and now am moving out of the country, and every morning when I come, she asks me how things are coming along, whether I had my last day at work...Downside: some of the guys look like they just rolled out of bed, and sometimes they stand there talking before they ring me up; don't like that, especially in the morning going to work. Great coffee, less $ than Starbucks, and punchcards! Pros: Best latte ever, really nice girls, punchcards Cons: guys grooming, guys talking, music's bit loud more

I'm a coffee snob 5/20/2005

I owned my own espresso bar and had some of the finest hand roasted beans ever back then. I've never come close to the heaven I was in when I had my own La Pavoni machine until the day I tried Stumptown. Even stale week old beans are still YUMMY in my french press. Try that Starbucks. HAH. Pros: Best Coffee ever, Smart Baristas, Amazing Coffee Cons: Too far from home, Parking sometimes, want more pastries more

TASTY coffee 5/20/2005

Probably the best coffee in town, for that matter, the NW. more

The Ultimate Cup! 2/8/2005

I'll keep it simple. Stumptown's coffee is consistantly the best I've ever had. ever. The quality is exceptional and the atmosphere is upbeat and relaxing. Always great art on the walls. It's a wonderful place to warm up on a rainy Portland day. Pros: BEST COFFEE EVER!!, Great service, Hip & chill atmospher Cons: , none more

Pros: the essence of -, portland coffee Cons: no vegan pastries more

DenverLu 4/9/2003

If you love lattes, read this description....order your latte to stay in a pint glass, the baristas know how to put a ""head"" on their latte. It is kind of like looking at a Guiness in a pint glass when they are done with these lattes. They put the espresso on the bottom, fill the pint glass with that steamed heaven. Then you get to drink it. Yum! You will drink this down to the bottom of your glass and still have foam leftover. Oh, and don't forget to wipe your nose off! And use your finger to get the last swipe of foam! Where do I signup to become an owner? Pros: best latte, great service, roasted there more
