Best

Stumptown has some great bold coffee. Highly recommend you try.

Worst

Roasted too dark like Starbuck's for way too much. The local shops feel like tacky franchises

Simply awesome! 3/12/2003

This is THE place to have a coffee (in whatever form you like it) in Portland. The baristas are the best in town, and they are friendly and cool, too. The coffee is rich and delicious, and also very smooth, with little acidity. Pros: baristas, roast own beans, location Cons: parking more

Awesome latte 1/28/2003

Stumptown's lives up to its great reputation. After many stories, I finally tried my first Stumptown latte. I'm a customer for life and I live on the West side of town! Pros: taste, clean, service more

coffee AND LOVE 1/21/2003

portland has a reputation for being cool, but mean; of being hip, but snotty. not here. these guys are not only making the best coffee in portland, outpacing caffe d'arte in seattle if you ask me, but they're also sweet as can be, rocking out, doing good things. i drink their coffee every day in every way. i can't imagine giving many perfect ""10""s but they really do deserve it. Pros: kindly cool, superb coffee, good wholesalers, too more

My stump throbs at stumptown 1/14/2003

Hands down, the best coffee in Portland. Buy yourself a pound of Ethopian Harrar to take home while you are there, you won't be sorry. Atmosphere is cool at both locations. Pros: Great flavor, Great staff, Cool atmosphere Cons: parking more

Not Stumped in Stumptown 12/9/2002

about the coffee, Starbucks doesn't even compare with Stumptown as the best coffee in Portland! more

Yay for the little guys 11/30/2002

Stumptown is serving the best espresso in Portland right now. You will be hard pressed to find other places around Ptown that can do latte-art as well. Support the little guys; micro-roasting is bliss. Pros: espresso, espresso, french-press Cons: attitudes more

A Barista's POV 10/21/2002

As a barista from Seattle, the few times I do come down to Portland I make a trip to Stumptown to fill my caffeine cravings. It's unfortunate to always see Starbucks as an audience pick when there are other independents who do a better job of coffee - support your local businesses and local baristas...they're the ones that really care about what they do. Pros: Inexpensive, Local, Great atmosphere more

Yum! French Pressed house blend 10/14/2002

The only time a stopped by a stumptown coffee I was so surprised that they french pressed their house blend. The best java in a ""to go"" cup that I have ever had! more

Heaven in a Cup 9/17/2002

Finding Stumptown was the worst thing that could have happened for my trying to give up caffenine. The coffee is amazing, their staff is very capable and those ceiling fans are great!! Pros: Coffee, Atmosphere, Did I mention coffee? more

Holy She-ougt 9/16/2002

I happy to move next to this place. I recently moved to South East Pdx and was worried about where I was getting my cup-of-Joe. I have been in Portland for about 8 years and this has to be some of the best coffee. Pros: Great Coffee, In-house Roasted, Fired that one Guy Cons: nobody Smokes, Pro:away from NW, Pro:No Harleys more

Best coffee ever 9/16/2002

No one in the northwest roasts coffee like Stumptown does. Just smelling this coffee can wake you up. I'm ashamed that Porltanders have ranked Starbucks number one. more

deeeeelicious! 9/6/2002

This place rocks. I love the simple look with unique artwork. As for the coffee; it's the best! I routinely drive all the way from Beaverton to get this stuff. more

The ONLY coffee in Portland 7/26/2002

I'm pretty dissapointed with the general public for ranking Starbucks as the best coffee in Portland. I should know coffee, I worked in upper management with Starbucks for 4 years. They DO NOT have the best coffee. Stumptown has THE very best coffee in the world as far as I am concerned. (Not to metion they are not a giant evil corrupt corporation that doesn't deserve our money!!) more

One of the Best! 7/24/2002

Well, I definitely have to say that I am a coffee conosseiur and I love my coffee. Stumptown is by far one of my top-three picks of coffee places!! The coffee has a great smooth taste to it. Atmosphere pretty cool (kind of a funky place) and people are pretty friendly. Pros: Taste Cons: Crowded, some service more

The cup i was looking for... 5/22/2002

I have been looking for the cup that got away for a while and finally found it. Pros: Great coffee, clean, affordable Cons: few store more
