Interesting... 5/9/2003

The service that we received was moderately good, but it could have been better. (The Palm, Virago, and Morton's come to my mind.) The crab cakes are extremely well made and tasting. Again, the steak is very good, much better than Outback (and how you people actually vote Outback the best Steakhouse in Nashville is BEYOND me), but it does lack the savory nature of a steak from the Palm or Morton's. Presentation is again well-done. The service staff maintained just the correct amount of presence without seeming to be present. The inside is marvelous, but the outside is in a neighborhood that was nice about 60 years ago, yet has since declined dramatically. (Side note: If you take the advice from someone who says ""themselfs"" instead of ""themselves,"" then I think you are taking a risk.) Outback IS NOT STEAK. more

Absolutely Not Worth It! 2/17/2003

I heard this was one of the best places to get a steak, so I thought I would try it out. I took three good friends out for what I hoped to be a nice dinner. My closest friend considers himself a steak expert and he said he would never go back. We were all very dissappointed, especially me, considering I spent $350.00 for a simple dinner for four (we each only had a steack, one side, a glass of wine, and all shared 2 desserts). The steaks looked like good cuts of meat, but they were all charred so much on the outside that that was all you could taste. I would rather have the Outback Special Sirloin than a steak from Stockyard anyday! Ruth's Chris Steak House definately beats this place and remains #1 in my book. more

Worst Valentines Day Dinner EVER 2/15/2003

This was such a disappointing dining experience that I not only will never return, it almost ruined my Valentine's Day. The service was awful, we were seated for over 10 minutes before anyone greeted us. The waiter was short, not friendly or inviting in the least. We were given different wine than we ordered, with no explanation, my food was so charred on the outside that it had no taste. When I asked for it to be replaced the waited condescendingly explained that they cook over charcoal so some charring is expected. Also, when replacing my food, he left my fiance's so we ended up eating separately so his food wouldn't be frigid when mine arrived. We left as soon as we paid the check and chose to go another, BETTER restaurant for dessert to try and salvage the evening. Pros: pretty building Cons: Over rated Food, Bad Service, Over Priced more

Can't wait to return 1/16/2003

Visited the Stock-Yard for dinner while on business. Ambience was relaxing, both the food and service were superb!! Eagerly awaiting my next trip to Nashville!! more

Where's Jennifer??? 1/13/2003

gOOD FOOD.BAD Management...we had a party of 25 there last year, had a great time and spent over 10 grand. Came this year, found out the ""accountant"" fired Jennifer, our favorite waitress. We left. It takes alot to make me spend 10,000. She did it and in a good way. We throughly enjoyed ourselves. I wanted more of the King Cognac brought on by an effiencient waitress with a wonderful attitude. Where are you, Jennifer??? Pros: service, cognac, jennifer Cons: management, no jennifer more

THE BEST RESTAURANT IN THE WORLD! 1/13/2003

WHOEVER SAYS THAT THIS RESTAURANT IS NOT GOOD HAS NO CLASS THEY MUST LIKE STEAK FROM THE GOLDEN CORRAL. THE STEAK AND THE SERVICE IS FIRST CLASS AND I DO NOT MIND SPENDING A PRICE IN THE UPPER BRACKET FOR GOOD SERVICE AND TENDER STEAK. IF YOU EXPECT TO EAT QUALITY MEAT THIS IS THE PLACE BUT IF YOU EXPECT BUFFET QUALITY THIS IS NOT FOR YOU........... more

My first but not last visit. 1/13/2003

The service was great from the doorman to the busboys. Elegant dining at it's best. Pros: Shuttle service, great hospitality, excellent food more

the best, best, best 1/9/2003

This place is so great. The food, the service, the atmosphere. EVERYTHING was perfect, and to top it off, my husband loved it too. Pros: best steak ever, fabulous service more

Food from Heaven 12/17/2002

This was my third visit to the Stockyard and as always, suuuuuuuper. The beef is always outstanding as are their salads and famous mushrooms. I really like the relaxed atmosphere and the fact that the wait staff does not hover over while you are eating. I find the food and service always excellent. When I visit Nashville, no matter where I am staying my first call is to the Stockyard to send the shuttle. Keep up the good work! Pros: Great Food, Good Service, Free Shuttle more

Out of Stock 12/4/2002

Disappointed. Menu was sufficiently varied to allow for choice; but prices way out of line for the quality of the meat - and I suspect for the location. Dinner for two with a moderate wine: $162.00!!! Service in our small room was spotty at best; almost inattentive at times. Pros: decor, menu, reputation Cons: exhorbitant prices, reputation, wait service more

As Bad AS Jimmy Kellys 12/4/2002

Another old landmark restaurant in the Nashville area whose fame is based on bad food, mediocre service and great atmosphere. When you see rave reviews from people on places like this or Jimmy Kellys you wonder what kind of food are these people used to. Ordered a bordeaux from the wine list and it was brought to the table in a bucket of ice. more

Bad Service 12/3/2002

I agree, the servers do not care, the servers who help the main server do not even know the menu. They just want to add the automatic gratuity. I guess we should have had dinner on the first floor. Other co-workers had a great experience with the servers downstairs. Well, we made our mistake, I hope this will help others more

ORDINARY! 11/17/2002

We waited for water, cocktails, our food. When dinner arrived two identical entrees were NOT identical. One large steak which was to be split (an additional $10 plate charge) arrived NOT split or plated. A bottle of wine arrived for presentation, poured into glasses and then disappeared (with the waitress) and we didn't see either of them again until THE BILL CAME! A $5.95 asparagus side contained FIVE spears and a shrimp pasta entree contained four shrimp! When leaving the host in the lobby inquired about our meal. We expressed dissatisfaction and his EXACT comment was "" . . . yes, it [frustration, dissappointment] shows on your face."" Finally, the shuttle driver refused to take us to our hotel - he was on his way to the Gaylord at which point the manager marched over and made him. Oh yes, the manager did buy our table (of eight) two desserts. Pros: Shuttle, Nice women's restroom, Excellent wine list Cons: Ordinary, Ordinary, Ordinary more

WOW! 11/3/2002

The best dinner I've experienced...bar none. My husband and I immensely enjoyed our dinner, the decor was lovely, and the service outstanding. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone, and I already have recommended it to our company president for dinner parties, etc. more

Overrated, overpriced, over-recommended 10/27/2002

After seeing turkey testicles offered as an appetizer, we should've known. The SY is more for show than anything else. After our server ""highly recommended"" all the most expensive items on the menu, we settled down to Caesar's w/out anchovies (they don't carry), and Steak Oscar w/ canned crabmeat. The ambiance was great, but it stopped there. Next time, we'll go to the Capitol Grille. more

If food were sex...... 9/16/2002

Having marital problems? Girlfriend not happy? Trying to impress that new secretary? Then the Stockyard is where you need to go. The food, atmosphere, and ambience are unmatched. The service is top shelf and i would compare this restaurant to many of the top choices in N.Y. , L.A or Atlanta. The food was perfectly cooked and the desserts will cause strokes. Is this place pricey? Yes but remember, SHE bore the children for you. Ever want to get even with a cab driver? Take their free shuttle to and from your hotel. A+ Pros: Dessert, Wine, Management more

Everything we anticipated! 8/30/2002

We heard about this restaurant from Ronnie McDowell and he certainly did not exaggerate. It was a cold, rainy winter night when we first visited the Stock-Yard. That particular night the chicken tortilla soup was the most wonderful thing I had ever tasted. The wine selection is excellent. Of course the rest of the meal, steak, vegetables, etc. was outstanding but the flavor of the hot, creamy tortilla soup on such a dreary night will always stand out in my mind. We recommend the Stock-Yard to everyone visiting Nashville and return every chance we get. Pros: good food, excellent service, interesting history Cons: little crowded more

Don't Go There!! 8/11/2002

Take my advice and do the following instead of going to the Stockyard Restaurant in Nashville. ---Go to the OUTBACK Steakhouse Restaurant and on the way home row down the car window and throw a $100 bill. That way you will spend less for a good steak dinner and have the satisfaction of a much better meal. I have been to all the great steak restauants but unfortunatly this is not one of them. Its either a ""has been"" or ""a want to be"" restaurant. I don't know who they campared themselfs to but it was not any of the good restaurants I have been to. PLEASE DON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE!! Pros: NICE OLD BUILDING Cons: BELOW AVERAGE FOOD, WAITER DOES NOT KNOW, RUSH YOU THROUGH DINN more

Prime ""time"" Rib 8/9/2002

I have been to all of the good restaurants in Nashville and the Stock Yard has the most equisite grilled Prime Rib. Their extensive wine list only compliments their food and the desserts on literally the icing on this fabulous cake. It is a ""must eat"" in my opinion. Pros: Food, Presentation, Service Cons: Pricey more

Wow, Stock Yard will impress you! 8/8/2002

The Stock Yard is definately one of the favorites in Nashville. A little more expensive than your average restaurant but a whole lot more for your money! If you looking for the celebrity type atmosphere great music and great steaks and seafod (among other things) you have to check out the Stock Yard. more
