OK, plain and simple: One of the best, most reliable companies I have ever dealt with. In fact, I'm dealing with them right now and they will finish my job - which is not an easy one - tomorrow. On budget and on schedule. I own an apartment in a luxury building on the UWS (but live in Florida). We had a burst pipe which basically wrecked half the floor. All the wood buckled and had to be ripped out along with the subfloor. The worst part is that my tenants (who have a 3-year old daughter) would have to move out and into a hotel. State-of-the-Art had done work in my building before and came highly recommended so I gave them a call. Within a day I had my quote (not the lowest, nor the highest). I hired them with the stipulation that they could finish the job in 10 days so as to minimize inconvenience to my tenants. Eric Herman (the owner, I think) promised the job would be done in the agreed upon time frame. It took 3-4 days just to get the specialty oak flooring. Then it had to be laid in a herringbone pattern to match the rest of the floors. Not an easy job. I had my doubts they would come through for me. And yet Eric either called or emailed at least once a day to give me updates. He kept assuring me everything was on schedule. A few days ago I had a friend unexpectedly ""drop in"" to the apartment just to take a look. They reported back to me that State-of-the-Art had 3 CREWS working there - that's 6 men - and that the job looked beautiful and was almost finished. Sanding happened today and finishing happens tomorrow (can you believe it, on a Saturday!). Then cleanup and my tenants are back in, as promised on Monday. State-of-the-Art pulled out all the stops to finish on time and their work is meticulous. You can't tell the old flooring from the new. The guys are true craftsmen. I would recommend this company in a heartbeat. When so much crappy customer service and shoddy workmanship out there, it's so refreshing to come across a company you can really count on. These guys rock! more

Unreliable service, shoddy work 4/4/2012

I had a terrible experience with STate of the Art Wood Flooring. Eric Herman just sends different workers every time and never communicates with them, so they just keep screwing up. They couldn't get basic things right like finishing the installation, not laying down pieces of wood that were damaged, sanding the floor well enough that I could open my bedroom door all the way. They also left shims in my entire floor all the way around, then told us to put the baseboards, which had to be completely ripped out and re-done. They also caused extensive damage to my newly-remodeled apartment, including areas that I had specifically pointed out to them that couldn't be damaged, like a $15,000 set of new kitchen cabinets. I don't think that Eric is a nasty guy or a crook, but he sure doesn't know how to run a business. I think it's time he found a new one. more
