memory refreshed 8/5/2009

server was most informed re food and wine. had been some time since last visit-we do have a lot of restaurants in chas, but my memory quickly came to life. Pros: service extraordinary Cons: liquidity with crab cakes-not necessary more

An overall pleasant experience. 3/3/2009

Great food. Great ambiance. The sour cream apple pie was unbelievably good (I am not a big apple pie fan either). I would highly recommend S.N.O.B. Pros: You will enjoy yourself. Cons: Pricey. more

tender steaks 9/25/2008

I ordered the New York Strip steak and it sure was tender and juicy. The flavor was great. I added the grits on the side and liked it a lot too. The apple pie looked tempting but I was too full to order dessert. Maybe next time. more

SNOB Heaven 8/14/2008

Locals refer to this restaurant as "SNOB". They have a unique open kitchen so you can sit and watch as they prepare your food. I wanted a table closer in, but it was crowded so we took what we could get. My salmon came plated w/ perfectly cooked asparagus, and underneath the fish and a delicate mushroom crepe. Very good. I just love good shrimp and grits and at SNOB there's more shrimp and flavor than grits, which is a good thing so the second day we were in Charleston I told my husband let's eat dinner here again. :)\r \r All in all, it was a nice, relaxing time and you will not be disappointed. Service was wonderful and the prices are affordable for such quality served. more

Really great food and service 7/21/2008

SNOB was the highlight of my recent trip to the Kiawah Island/Charleston area. The food was very good and the service terrific. They gave us a complimentary fruit bowl for my son to start. The bread was delicious and warm. We were seated very close to the open kitchen which was nice. I ordered the grilled beef tenderloin with the jumbo lump crabcake and my husband had a seared whitefish. Both dishes were cooked perfectly and very tasty. Desserts were yummy too. I had the warm sour cream apple pie with vanilla ice cream and we also ordered the banana cream pie which my son loved, but I thought was just ok. Don't miss this place if you visit Charleston. Pros: Nice casual ambience, great service and food more

Excellent food and excellent service. 5/14/2008

Excellent food and excellent service. An extensive special list included starters, entrees, and desserts. because we'd never had them before, we opted for the lightly battered and fried squash blossoms stuffed with eggplant, creating deliciously rich and creamy bites cut by a pureed tomato sauce and thick grits. Simply said, the squash blossoms were easily the highlight of our dinner. more

Very good food, w/out SNOB involved 9/23/2007

My husband and I ate at SNOB on a Friday night. We stopped in at 5pm, made reservations for 5:30, which I highly recommend if you don't have previous reservations. We were seated at a small table, far away from the open kitchen, which I was disappointed about. Anyway...onto the food and service. Our waitress was nice, and service was on spot. After we received our water, a bread basket was placed on the table w/ cornbread, and another bread I can't remember. Very good cornbread. For entrees, I ordered the salmon. Husband ordered shrimp and grits. Salmon came plated w/ perfectly cooked asparagus, and underneath the fish, a delicate mushroom crepe. Very good. Husband loved the shrimp and grits, more meat and flavor than grits, which is a good thing. All in all, it was a nice, relaxing time. Nothing special, not extraordinary food. I would describe SNOB as solid. I wasn't blown away, but I know I would never be disappointed. more

Beautiful dining room, excellent service, fantastic food 8/8/2007

My husband and I had lunch at S.N.O.B. There was a 30 minute wait for a table, but it was well worth it. The restaurant was packed but you would never have known it. Our server was prompt and all of our food came out smoothly. Both of our meals were outstanding. Pros: Great atmosphere, wonderful food, exceptional service more

Great Food, Friendly Service & Wonderful Ambiance 11/8/2006

As a Charleston local SNOB is actually one of my favorite restaurants. The beef tenderloin is to die for and they have wonderful creme brulee & sorbet. They have true Southern fare, specifically lowcountry favorites. My family normally celebrates Christmas Eve at SNOB every year. Service has always been friendly & professional. SNOB is a must when you are in Charleston more

It is named SNOB for a reason 6/27/2006

To me, going to a restaurant is more than just the food. It is the ambiance, the service and the food. This little nook has wonderful food; however our server lived up to the acronym (SNOB). She had a disposition that was less than pleasant. The food is good enough to eat there again, however I believe the servers need a small lesson in Southern Hospitality! more

An Incredible Experience 4/21/2006

My travels take me all over the world and I always come back to SNOB. The food is incredible (EVERYTHING!! is made on site), the staff is second to none and their loyalty program is awesome. From Chef Lee to managers Peter and Julia to the wait staff - everyone is there to make your meal enjoyable. Try the lamb, shrimp and grits and my absolute favorite - the charcuterie plate - words can hardly describe it. Don't miss this restaurant when visiting Charleston. more

a little self-conscious/stingy - but not snobby 3/14/2006

Well - the evening started out on a sour note, but improved. We were a little early so we odered drinks at the bar. Two martinis came to $19 w/out tip and the young woman puring drinks barely filled the glasses to the half-way point. I had thought she maybe thought we wanted to split a drink, but that was alas not the case. The waiter we had really was trying hard to sell us on any bottle of wine over $70. WOuldn't recommend anything less expensive. We thanked him for the sugestions and ordered a couple of moderate and good wines by the glass. The Duck was magnificent. The Pompano special was good - nothing special though the waiter acted as though it was something miraculous. Excellent salads. Would go back, but would skip the rip-off bar. Pros: stingy bartender, expensive cocktails, pushy waiter Cons: food, decor, well-meaning waiter more

Maverick Southern Kitchen 11/27/2005

Though known as SNOB, this restaurant does not fall into the pretensious category that some downtown restaurants do. They have an open kitchen, and the menu has many different choices for everyone. It is the perfect place to go for lunch while you are enjoying beautiful downtown Charleston. The Devil Chocolate Mousse cake is wonderful!! more

mediocre 10/24/2005

after reading the reviews i thought this would be a great place, but was a bit disappointed....atmosphere is nice, cozy, though i didnt find it to be romantic at all....service was ok, nothing too special...food was bland, the 3 people in our party all agreed....it was ok., wouldnt recommend it though...my career has taken me all over the world for work and this does not measure up.....there are better places in charleston to dine... Pros: ambience, prompt seating Cons: mediocre food, ok service, noisy more

Our experience not what some others experienced 6/19/2005

Decided to try SNOB because of the other reviews. The overall experience was average. The service was below avg...yes it could be just one waiter. But it started right from the greeting at the front door. I had the Carpaccio of Beef Tenderloin which I thought was excellent. But the rest of the food was avg. My wife had the triggerfish...we thought it was just OK. I had the crab cakes...they were nothing to write home about. My wife ordered a white wine and it was warm. Because of our dinner we decided not to stay for dessert. Cons: service, crowded, loud more

Great Lunch spot 10/13/2003

This place was packed at 2pm on a Thursday! That says it all! Pros: Great atmosphere, Unusual menu choices, Excellent service Cons: Need more fish choice more
