I have been taking my pets to Sim's for years. One time I took my beloved cat there & he had to be put down. I was crying & my husband was also very upset. The next day we were had to go out of town. We were going to have him cremated so we could bring him home where he had been for 20 years. Although, we had the money, Mr Sims told us that they would do everything and when we came back we could pay then. His daughter Stephanie, has always been nice to us & seems to care for my 2 cats & 1 dog. There are a lot of newer vets up & down Bardstown Road but Sims Animal Hospital is the only one that I would ever take my furry children. Pam Russ more

DECAPITATED DOG AND GAVE HEAD TO OWNER IN A BOX Neighbor's terminally ill dog snapped at owner. Owner called for euthanasia appt - had to wait 3 days. Then, immobile dog waited 45 minutes outside in 95 degrees for staff to come out and help get him into the clinic. After euthanasia, crying owners are at the desk paying their bill - vet drops a box on the counter, says ""I had to cut off his head since he bit you - here it is, take this down to the health department on Gray Street"". I would not send any living creature here for any kind of treatment, and in any other kind of business, these folks would be OUT of business due to abysmal customer service, no empathy, and just plain nasty behavior. more

Beware of Up-charges 12/8/2011

At the last minute the dr. called and told me the cat would need sedation for it's checkup and shots. Dr. said that they couldn't handle the cat ""safely"" and it was going to scrath them. Funny because cat is declawed. Cat has never needed sedation for shots or check up in 5 years at 3 different vets. Perhaps they don't handle the animal correctly. It was a $65 upcharge because there was no time to take the cat somewhere else as I had scheduled to board for that evening and shots were not up to date. I was over a barrel and I felt they took advantage of the situation by not calling until 3:30 about this problem. I took the cat in before 11am. more

Great place to take your furry friends 7/30/2010

I have been going to Sims for a few years. The receptionists have always been professional and friendly. I have never encountered the one described in a couple of the other reviews. The prices are reasonable and the hours are great.. It's nice to just walk in with no appointment and very little waiting. My pets are always treated with kindness and respect. Pros: great hours, no appointment needed, caring vets more

50/50 chance 11/19/2008

I have been to Sims serval times over the years. Dr. Sims himself seems to care about the animals until you listen closley and hear him talking to his staff. When i was asked to put down a deposit for my cat's surgery i told them i had nothing on me and neeeded to go to the bank to get the money or I could pay when I pick her up. The staff went and asked Dr. Sims what he should do and he told them to give me my cat back that i would leave the cat there and run off. I ended up going down the road to pets plus where they were happy to hold my cat while i ran to the bank. Also I see where other have complained about the receptionist that is heavy set with glasses and that lady is Dr. Sims daughter, Stephanie. If I see her in there I usually turn around and leave. But when I go there and Dr. Evans is working, he is always friendly and has no problem with me paying when i leave. I have 7 pets and I refuse to ever see Sims agian. I always call ahead and mae sure he's not going to be there. Pros: lower rates for shots Cons: you have to make sure you don't get Dr. Sims or his family more

Franchute 8/31/2008

I took a cat that was ran over by a heartless driver who did not even slow down much less stop, to the Sims hospital on a Sunday. I found the staff caring and quick to get the cat to the doctor. They ask the questions as we went into the exam room where the doctor was sitting. He examined the cat and immediatly began CPR and trying to save this helpless cat. Sadly the cat passed away on the table. The hospital did not charge me for the visit only for the cremation which I requested since I felt that this poor cat needed someone to care for it's remains. I think they showed the care and concern that you would expect a hospital to show in that situation. I did not see rude or uncaring, I saw professionals doing what they were supposed to do in an emergency situation. more

Rude staff 12/11/2007

Receptionist very rude. I took my dog in for a routine rabies shot. I asked for and paid for a 3 year shot, I got a 1 year shot and their response? too bad. no refund of the difference just too bad. I have been taking all my pets to them for over 10 years and think Dr. Sims is a wonderful and caring vet. He has called me at home to see how a sick cat was doing. Until he gets a more organized and friendlier staff I will not be back. more

Been a client for over 30 years and would not help me when my dog had an emergency. 7/18/2006

I have gone to Sims for over 30 years and so have my parents. When my dog was found at home have sizures and she could not breath. My husband rushed her to Sims and they took her in the back ASAP. But they would not give her any shots or exras untill we plopped down a $400 deposit. Having three children and both of us working full time and living pay check to pay check, we didn't have $400 to give them to hold. I have never had a check bounce and I usually paid with check card for the full amount right then and there. I was on my way and was talking to the receptionist and begging her to let me write a check and hold it for only 8 days until I got paid for them to do an exra to make sure no bones were broken. They said they had to have 60% down. When I told her I didn't have it they told me ""sorry"". My dog lived but I'm in the process of finding a new vet. How heartless do you have to be to not work with a client of over 30 years? I'll ask Dr. Sims when he gets off vacation. Pros: Nice hours Cons: Will let you dog die on table if you don't have enough money to put down as deposit. more
