Best

I've been going to Sawmill Tap Room for several years and it's the best Bar in town! All the managers are awesome. The entire staff is warm, personable, and will always assist yo...

The food is OK, but would stick to the bar food! The bartenders' all have an attitude and need to take a class in customer service. If you like to smoke this place is for you. The...

Love Sawmill!! My new favorite 'hang out' 3/3/2006

The staff at Sawmill is very attentive and friendly. The music is great. The TV's in the Bar are awesome-- if there's a game on, it will be playing at Sawmill. The bar is not overly smokey. The food is tasty. Excellent burgers!! Decent selection of Apps. The outdoor seating is wonderful. They've made a 'regular' out of me! Pros: Family Friendly, Great Service, Beer Selection Cons: Sometimes Crowded more

Scenes from Sawmill Tap Room Restaurant 3/2/2006

Sawmill is a place you can go multiple times a week and never get bored. The staff is friendly as are the regulars. I've experienced both the dining room and the bar for food and fun. I'm a sports fan, so I love the atmosphere in the bar area. It's even one of the few places in Raleigh that broadcasts ESPN U, so it's highly unlikely you'll ever miss a game at Sawmill. The service is excellent, always with a smile. As a non-smoker, I tend to shy away from bars with smoking, however, Sawmill's set up is such that it doesn't bother me. I give it a 10! Pros: Friendly staff, Great service, Outdoor decks Cons: Cisco more

A favorite in Raleigh 1/24/2006

There have been many restaurants in this building that failed. This one will LAST !! We've been over a dozen times. Atmosphere is great for watching sports, or relaxing, or bringing the family. But it's the menu that brings me back. It's not your everyday, run-of-the-mill menu. Lots of great new dishes. Fried pickle slices, beer-cheese soup, etc. The servers in the restaurant are mostly young (teenagers to early twenties) ... and each that we've ""had"" were excellent. The bartenders on the other side are fast, observant, friendly ... and never under-staffed !! We love this casual dining place !! Probably my favorite place in Raleigh. Pros: value, food, service more

Sawmill is a neighborhood hangout 8/17/2005

The Sawmill Taproom is a comfortable place to go, either with kids or without. If you want watch a game, the bar area is great for that. If its good weather you can sit outside on the newly enlarged deck. If you are looking for ""fine dining"" this isn't it, but if you want good bar food and cheap wings, burgers, fries, appetizers etc, the Sawmill works. We go there alot and it's one of our ""home"" bases. Pros: food, outside seating, comfort Cons: not elegant more

Great burgers and other stuff too 7/25/2005

Excellent burgers-- they grind there own meat so you can get it cooked any way you want it-- rare, medium rate, etc. Good value too on most items-- I wouldn't say so for beer that are not on special that day.... it's nice to have a large selection, but I think they get carried away with a lot of stuff no one hardly orders-- then again, I've never been impressed by quantity, only quality. The bar area is smokey as hell so I'd stick with the dining room....I've never had bad service! Pros: burgers, food value, service Cons: smokey bar, kids allowed at bar more

very kid-friendly 7/10/2005

A place where you can feel welcome bringing your kids, and can still get a great beer- enough said! Pros: good beer selection, great for kids, good service Cons: crowded, little pricey, loud more

Great Burgers 5/19/2004

Come for the burgers. It's their specialty. The Black and Blue is superb. For a different twist try the Kansas City, grilled onions and cheese topped with a sweet BBQ sauce. Different but, tasty. Best of all is the pricing. Yep, it's the six dollar restaurant burger. And darn well worth it. The choice of draft beers is excellent. A chilled glass would be nice though. The deck is nice for relaxing when the sirens aren't blowing by on the rescue squad. All in all a nice neighborhood comfort place. Pros: Great burgers, Nice people, Family friendly Cons: , Noisy dinning room, Need more TV screens more

beer a la mode?? 12/23/2002

As one of only 3 outlets for cask conditioned ale in the Triangle (and the nearest to home!!!), I have to support it. I just wish they would pour the first couple of ounces away before filling the first glass - it's always got that vinegar tang. On the food front, entrees are OK but ordinary. Strange dessert names (I learnt ""a la mode"" means with a small dollop of ice cream thrown on). My wife's sundae was v. poor. Bar food at a previous visit was good. Service was overattentive, trying several times to remove our plates before being finished. I will continue to visit for the cask, maybe not so frequently to eat. Pros: cask ale - try it!, bar appetizers Cons: overattentive service, poor desserts more

Great Bar Food 12/17/2002

This place is perfect for what it is - a little neighborhood bar to watch a game, have some brews and good bar food. Great Skins, no matter which one of the 5 you pick, plus more brews on tap than I knew what to do with. If you want ambience, great service, and a well-mannered staff, go downtown. Otherwise, this place is your best bet. Pros: Lots of brews on tap, lots of good bar food Cons: small bar more

Depends on the Day 12/13/2002

The wait staff, and bartenders for that matter, could definitely take classes in etiquette, manners, and common courtesy; but the bar food is pretty great--Beats Duffy's or McCann's. I'd avoid the dinners--it's a tap room folks, not the Ritz Carlton. Stay with the bar food and the beer--and you can't go wrong. Pros: beer selection, appetizers, atmosphere Cons: attitude of waitstaff, "entrees" more

Poor Just Poor 8/6/2002

Can you give a negative number rating....worst service and poorer attitude! I cannot beleive they have lasted this long....took 45 minutes to get a burger that was cooked wrong and with the wrong side. It probably sat in the hot window as the wait staff just sat around smoking and chatting. more

Sit Down with the Family and Have a Beer 7/31/2002

I have eaten at the Sawmill Tap Room many times and love everything about it. It is a casual dining experience with tons of good food including appetizers, great burgers and sandwiches, and entrees as well. Everyone should try the signature dill pickle chips! They also have a great selection of brews! more
