Smoked fish savior to the Upper East Side 5/14/2006

Sable's is a saving grace for the neighborhood, where all other bagel shops pass off mediocre smoked fish as the standard. Whether you purchase it as part of your bagel at the counter, or go next door to have it sliced to go, their smoked salmon is the best. And it should, as the proprietor was the former fish manager for Zabar's across town. In addition, their little market provides all the supplementals to a great meal, making it almost like a Zabar's East. They have a variety of smoked fish and fish salads, the lobster salad in particular is phenomenal. The wall of Kodak instant photos, which include a few famous faces, bear witness to the quality and popularity of Sables. more

The best smoked salmon 10/5/2005

This small upper east side market is fantastic. They've got the best smoked salmon - better than Zabars and much less crowded. Fantastic selection of salmon, caviar, salads, etc. The also have a sandwich shop next door. It's not big so can't compete with the big markets but the quality is there. Great friendly service. Always a free taste of something. more
