Ruth's Chris Steak House

Ate at Ruth's Chris with my family at the riverside crown plaza location in Jacksonville last night, April 4th at 6:30 pm. Excellent food and excellent service by the wait staff especially Richard and Julian and the other two of their wait staff. There were two female receptionists at the entrance. The taller one was very rude. She didn't greet us with a smile. When we were leaving she just looked at us and didn't say hi or thank us for visiting. more

My wife, children and grandchildren recently had dinner here and it was magnificent! The view, the food, wine etc. was just great. They had no problem with menu items that took care of the kids (whom were well behaved) and was such a treat for them. They offer complete dinners now that include appetizer, steak, and dessert. Very good deal! We will absolutely return here. I have been to the Ponte Vedra location and was not as impressed. Slingshot more

I love the filet. It has to be the best ever. It is aged to perfection. The asparagus is gigantic and the sauce is seasoned well. Suggestion: try the broiled tomatoes. It makes a great sidedish. If you ever been to a Ruth's the atmosphere is kind of dark. more

Anniversary dinner. Arrived early to have a drink in the bar. Host copped an attitude and seated us immediately. Waiter rushed us. Both husband and I ordered rib eye Medium Pittsburgh. My steak was not medium, not rare, it was RAW. It was not edible. Waiter came to clear plates and asked what was wrong with my steak. I showed him my raw steak and reminded him I ordered Medium. He copped an attitude and said that I should have said something. (To whom, I'm wondering. He had disappeared). We have been patrons of this restuarant by the beach many times and it has been mostly a very good experience and good food until last night. After the experience, I don't think we will be patrons of this establishment anymore. Pros: Good food only when they do it right Cons: Snoby and arrogant demenor of the manager and the food is not always prepared properly. Sometimes the food is good and other times you feel you could have gone to Denny's and it would've been better. more

I have been to Morton's and Plaza III, and I am a member of the River Club at the top of the Modis building, and out of all of these fine downtown restaurants/steakhouses Ruth's Chris is by far the best. You CANNOT beat the location/setting either (well maybe River Club, but that's strictly exclusive). I am young and do not have much money, but I MAKE the time and money to go there and treat a nice girl to a good dinner. Do not order anything besides steak there, while everything is excellent, the steaks are mouthwatering good. They ""melt"" in your mouth (could they be simmered in butter?). Oscar style is the way to go, and like another commenter noted, only by the waiter's word of mouth. Appetizer? Try the seared tuna, while not as good as at River City Brewing Company, it is excellent (I always get seared or raw tuna, it's just that good). Side items? try the creamed spinach, it is the best I have had, and the shoestring is good, so are the potatoes au gratin, really everything. Go for any dessert as well. For those 21 year olds without a budget it IS Ruth's Chris. For those who just turned 21 or who try to appear 21, there is the cheapest bar in town even within stumbling distance of ruth's chris by the railroad tracks and the hospital. Get your beer and shots there, but reserve the bottles for Ruth's Chris. One of my favorite restaurants in town! Pros: Food-steaks, ambience/setting, fine dining with linen tablecloths, wear a suit! I took my husband there on his birthday. The food was excellent well worth what you pay. The service could have been better, we went on a Weds night at 7pm. The parking was terrible if you dont get valet. But iverall it was really nice. Pros: wonderful food Cons: service was not the best and parking wasnt either more

As always Jacksonville's finest and most distinguished restaurant leads the way! Sizzle and glitter as the lights of the St John's River make for a romantic evening, coupled with choice beef served sizzling hot by the best staff in Jacksonville. You will really feel you have arrived at the right restaurant with the right ambiance and style. Be careful when choosing your side items though they come in giant sizes enough to split between two people easily. All in all a really great dinner value. My wife and I have ate there many time BUT it is not the BEST steak house in jax. For one thing the service is to slow, and I know that the high priced drinks are watered down . The last time I went there I asked for a clean fork and I thought the waiter was going to tell me to go to Hell. I complained to a manager or what ever he called himself and all he said was sometimes things like that happen. I will never eat there again even if they gave me a free meal. As a family of four, we treated ourselves to a really classy evening at Ruth's Chris with high expectations. Out of four meals, 3 had to be returned because they were Rare when we had ordered the steaks at the medium well side of medium. ALthough Ruth's may seem pricey, it's worth going out half as much as we used to. The food, service and atmosphere are absolutely wonderful!! Sharing side dishes is fun. My husband and I visited Ruth Chris on our first anniversary (because it IZ one of those great places where you can dress up or down). Anyhoo, we shared entrees (the portions were huge) and the steak was UNBELIEVABLE! This place comes highly recommended! more
