I have found a new lease on life -- at least when it comes to my hair cut -- with Emily. A little background... I have had long hair my whole life and recently I decided I needed shorter hair that is more manageable and more presentable on TV (I'm a political analyst). I took the plunge with Emily and its been likfe altering. However before she even took out her scissors she first talked with me at length about my needs, likes/dislikes, and routine. She also spent time ""researching"" by looking at my website and my different appearances to understand how my hair moves and my style. The act of cutting is only one component of her holistic approach to understanding what goes into a cut one loves. Aside from her mastery of hair cuttery, Emily is a lovely and affable person. Briana is one in a million when it comes to hair stylists. I have come to her with many impossible requests, including fixing my gray highlights gone wrong to going from red to blonde, then back to red again. Not only does she enjoy the challenge, she never ceases to amaze me with her work. The best part about Briana is her way to communicate and be on the same page with you (which is sometimes the most important part). Even when I don’t know what I want and make no sense, Briana finds a way to know exactly what I want and exceed my expectations. It won’t be another awkward hair appointment; you will leave feeling like you’ve met a new friend and with beautiful new hair. She is truly a one of a kind hairstylist with an incredible, natural talent for what she does. more

If I had to sum up my first impression upon walking into Roar, it would be ""precious."" It truly is a gorgeous space down to every little detail. And the staffs' personalities match up perfectly to the overall ambiance. Everyone was extremely welcoming and made me feel like I was top priority at all times. This is the first time I've ever had Matthew cut my hair, and I am so very pleased with the finished product. He listened to my concerns but also recognized that I was open to his professional opinion on products and styling. I will definitely go back to Matthew in the future! more

Roar is adorable! I had my hair cut by Lauren, who was super professional and really sweet too. I was a little iffy if I wanted to change up my look drastically or not, but Lauren took my few cues and really ran with it and I am so happy with the result. She also walked me through some styling tips and easier ways to accomplish the same look that she gave me. The staff is super friendly and really goes out of their way to make you feel comfortable. I would highly recommend Lauren! She has me feeling like a superstar! more

I had an amazing experience at ROAR. From the front desk to the stylists, everyone I interacted with was welcoming and outgoing. Briana Clark did my color and I couldn’t be happier with the results. She was easy to talk to and understanding about my apprehensiveness to color my hair. She suggested a gloss and explained exactly what she would do before starting. The color turned out better than I could have hoped for. Matthew Redden did my cut and it’s the best one I’ve gotten in I don’t know how long. He is a perfectionist in every sense of the word and spent the time necessary to give me exactly what I wanted. He is also extremely personable (and adorable) and I truly enjoyed visiting with him during my cut. Aside from the incredible people, the salon itself has a great feel and is decorated to a T. After my experience at ROAR, I know I will never use another salon as long as I live in Austin! They are truly the best. more

I went to Brian for blonde highlights and Emily for a cut and it was amazing!! Brian made my color look so great and fresh I love it. Emily is amazing she sat down and took the time to ask what I really wanted to do, then she cut my hair from really long to mid-length with lots of layers and now it looks the best it has ever looked. Hands down the best cut/color I have ever had :) more

Briana is absolutely wonderful! She always does a great job of getting my hair precisely the shade of red I want!! I get so many compliments on it! When I'm looking for a change or something more exciting for my hair she comes up with creative ideas to update my style with my color and cut--we've done an ombre with my color and most recently she did some face-framing and added bangs about which I've always been apprehensive, but she knows what she's talking about! Briana is full of great tips for healthy hair too I love it! She's so fun to chat with, and she's also very professional! I send allll my friends to her! BRIANA IS AWESOME!!!! more

Briana started doing my hair about a year ago and she is by far the best hair dresser I have ever had! Bright purple can be tricky but Briana makes it flawless everytime. I've never trusted anyone with my bangs but they always look perfect after I get a cut. I've never gotten so many compliments before I started going to her so I'm always handing out her cards and recommending her to all my friends. more

I don't think I've ever enjoyed getting my haircut as much as I did at Roar. Mathew did my hair and I want to pack him in my suitcase and take him with me when I move to California--and not just b/c he is a genius and gave me the best hair cut I've ever received. He has such an awesome, fun personality. We chatted the whole time. I think at one point I was laughing so hard I started to cry. I was very happy with this salon and my stylist. Honestly it was the best haircut of my life, and worth every penny! Emily was fantastic, she did exactly what I wanted. I moved to Austin about 2 years ago and have since been on a constant search for a regular place to have my hair done. I am very happy that I went to ROAR salon last week! What an amazing experience and I got TONS of compliments on my style and color!! Matthew Redden was my stylist. Even though I actually have known Matthew since high school, I am very lucky to have run into him last year. I was bummed when he moved away, but when he told me he was coming back, I was soooo happy that he did!!! He did an absolutely FANTASTIC job on my cut and blowout. I wish he could style my hair on a daily basis....this way it always looks great!! :) I am so looking forward to having him do my bridal up-do for my April 2012 wedding! :) Helene Clay was my colorist and was very lucky to have been in her hands!! I just gave her a celebrity example of the color I was going for and she knew exactly what I was going for. She was so easy to talk to and is very talented at what she does. So many people have given great compliments on the color and the style of my hair. :) If you want great service and results on your new 'do...go see both of them soon!! This was my first visit to ROAR and today i had my hair blown out by MATTHEW REDDEN- a newer stylist. Seriously-this guy is FANTASTIC! For starters, the shampoo was amazing-slow and relaxing and enough to make me want to fall asleep. Throughout the service, he held great conversation, which can be hard at 9 in the morning! The most impressive thing about my service today was the way that he was able to give me a style that was different than what I've ever had before without making me feel so outside of my comfort zone that I wanted to change it when I got home. In fact, I LOVE IT! His blowout was beautiful and modern and it made me feel the same way. GO SEE THIS GUY for great style and great conversation-it will make your day, i promise! more

I am 41 years old and have been to every ""upscale"" salon in Austin over the past 20 years. I have also traveled to other cities, such as LA and New York, specifically to visit the well known, upscale salons in those cities as well. After much frustration and copious amounts of money spent, I was ready to just give up. I could not understand how I could walk out of a hair salon spending so much money, and not feel fabby...as you should. I was literally ready to save my money, color my own hair and run down to a 'walk in' salon that charges 8 to 10 dollars. Then I discovered Roar. I had heard some buz around town about Roar, and decided to give them a try. BEST decision I have ever made. Not only is the salon super cool and groovy..yet sophisticated in its decor, when I called to make an appointment the receptionist made me feel like I was the only client they had. When I came in for my first appointment, the staff was so welcoming. When I sat down to get my hair colored by the owner Rory, he made me feel the same way..like I was his only client. He listened, gave suggestions, and let me ramble on about all my bad experiences. He is a master at coloring, and I get compliments everywhere I go. Then I moved on to Lauren who cut my hair. Again, she listened, gave me feedback and begun her magic. That day I walked out or Roar feeling as fabulous as I ever had. I have been a client here for about 3 years and I have never left unhappy. ROAR salon is ""hands down"" the best place to get your hair done in Austin. Rory, salon owner, is the best colorist I have ever met. He is so talented and his techniques on coloring hair is a work of art. Kevin, cuts my hair and is very precise and gives me the best cuts. I get compliments on my hair all the time. Rory is also a FABULOUS person and I am so blessed to know him. more

Not only is ROAR the most fabulous place in Austin to get your hair did, Rory, salon owner, is quite possibly the most talented colorist around. \r \r Rory has been highlighting my dirty blonde hair since before he opened the doors of ROAR and for so long, has been my dirty little secret. But now the cat is out of the bag!!! The look he creates is so natural that the other day my dad asked me how my hair could be so much more blonde than my sister's when I am older than her? I hadn't the heart to tell him that I have been coloring it for years. You can read of Rory's tremendous acolades on the website, as well as all of his amazing experience. But the proof, my friends, is in the pudding. If you are searching for the look that is truly you, except a little bit better, then Rory is your man. If your aim is a little bolder or a little more daring, he can do that too, but I am continuously amazed at his ability to make my hair look fabulously natural.\r \r I feel amazing when I leave ROAR and I am so glad to have discovered (literally) my own personal gold at the end of the rainbow!\r \r Thank you Rory and ROAR, you are the BEST! more

If Tony the Tiger left his job at Kellogg's, no doubt he would want to be the voice for this place because it has GRRRRRREEEEAAAAAAAAAT screaming left and right. I went there for the first time on Kevin's first day. And what a winner! He did not push, but glided me out of my hair's comfort zone, adding tasteful and fresh layers to someone's hair who is terrified of an overly architected snip-and-clip. Now, my hair is a different head of hair: healthy and bouncy and softly structured, so fun and so loved! He's wonderful, funny, fresh and will make you feel like you lost ten pounds or like you've been strutting the street in stilettos when you're in flats. He's got a certain touch, or a cut. I highly recommend him. And, RORY! Even if you don't want a color-treatment, you should probably go anyhow just to hang out with Rory. So fun and so warm and you'll leave with a head of hair that's been touched by an angel-colorist's hands. His experience and talent are unparalleled, and he's just the best. Everyone in the salon is so warm and you feel totally relaxed to have fun, but you also feel sure that you're in professional, talented, truly-special and cherished hands. I went to Roar salon for the first time about 2 weeks ago.....and I LOVED IT!!!! Kevin Cabiya gave me the most awesome hair cut....and created layers that I didn't think would look great on me.,..but they do! I have fine thin hair and Kevin was able to freshen up my look and give the allusion of much more volume....and I have recieved so many compliments. THANK YOU KEVIN. People.....go to Roar and ask for Kevin. Not only is he adorable :) but he is a great person too who will take care of you!\r \r Now for color!!! I also got my highlights done by Helene at Roar and she too did an incredible job!!!!! You know a good colorist when they are diligent and take their time getting it right. Helene did just that and I am very very very happy with the color. \r \r So my review of Roar Salon is GREAT and I love that I found a new hair stylist and colorist....YEA FOR ME! Go to them...... When you have curly hair it is inevitable that the search for the ""perfect"" stylist can become a full-time job. When I moved to Austin in 2006 from NYC I knew that finding someone to cut my hair would not be easy. I was here for about two years when I heard about Roar Salon from a friend. I had read some of the reviews for Janet St. Paul that were so positive and made me want to give her a try. Well, lets just say the search is over. Janet is everything those reviews said and more. She listens, yet gives her expert opinion (which is always right). On top of all of that she takes the time to show you what to do when you are at home. She gives you her undivided attention and is just so talented. I would love to say finding Janet has been the best kept secret. However, I think the secret is definitely out. You really can't go wrong only right. So it might have taken some time but it was worth the wait!! more

I had gone years with out a real hair style, only out of fear. Numerous times I have had my long, thick, curly locks destroyed by stylists that did not know what they were doing. Then I moved to Austin and got a recommendation to go to Roar, and let me tell you.....IT'S AMAZING. I saw a wonderful woman named Candy, and not only is she one of the sweetest stylists I have had the honor to encounter, she knows how to cut curly hair! She kept my length like I asked, she gave me beautiful layers and body too. I haven't been this pleased with my hair in forever! My cut and blow-dry was only $80, and to me that was a steal. I am going to always go back to see her for touch ups and new styles. I promise if any one goes to see her they will not be disappointed. CANDY from ROAR is PHENOMENAL. more
