Best Burgers Around! 8/13/2008

Ok, so you may have to wait an hour to get seated but it's worth it. The burgers are awesome, along with their onion rings. Service is actually really good considering the amount of people they pack in there. Parking is a bit of a problem. They do let you call ahead and put your name on the wait list if you're on your way. They do not take formal reservations though. Carry-Out is a good way to go too. I've taken advantage of it often and have no complaints. I wish they had a separate window around back though to pick it up instead of having to go through the restaurant and weave your way around all the people. Atmosphere inside is good. It's a little cozy because they pack as many as they can get in and it can be a little loud at the peak times. One thing that baffles me is that they are not open on Sunday's. Oh well, Redcoat is a great place that has awesome burgers and I will go back again and again. Pros: Great Burger, Great Onion Rings Cons: loooong wait, parking more

Well worth it 8/8/2008

Best burger in the world as far as I'm concerned. No complaints about service or hostesses. Bartenders are great, people watching (while you wait) is excellent. I'm going there tonite. I'd pay for a table. Pros: Lots more

The Red Lights Just Don't Bother Me 5/30/2008

GREAT burgers -- and everyone who says the red-lit atmosphere is weird needs to chill. It doesn't offend me. Whenever I go in there I crave another Red Coat burger for a month. Everything else I've tried, from the clam chowder to the blackened tilapia sandwich, tasted wonderful as well.\r \r If you want fast food, Burger King is right next door. If you want good food, just call ahead and take 30+ minutes you'll have to wait for a table to actually TALK with your family or friends. Who knows? You might find you still have something to say to eachother after all this time. more

Another vote for a fabulous burger 4/18/2008

I find myself craving their burgers all the time. The onion rings and fried mushrooms are also great. Long wait on the weekends and no reservations, but you can do call-ahead seating. It's often difficult to find parking in their tiny lot, but usually you can find a spot on one of the side streets and walk. You'll be so stuffed when you leave that you could probably use the exercise anyways. Pros: Delicious burgers Cons: Very busy, long waits, limited parking more

get over it 3/2/2008

If you have a food allergy then ask when you get there. you can't expect in a busy restaurant for everyone to drop what they are doing to cater to u. there are many items in every restaurant that you can order no mater what your allergy is. so EAT AT HOME more

Best Burger 2/15/2008

Thanks Wilco for setting those other losers straight. The food is what you go there for. The burgers are the best a little pricey but worth every penny. You go there for the food. Go to Capital Grille if you want to feel so cool like you are the only one that matters you vain dirt bag. You probably went there for the salad anyway you wannabe anorexic. Like O...My...God Like that hostess was like soooooooo Rude. Get over yourself and relax and have a good time once in a while. Pros: The Piedmontese Cons: Beer Prices more

Sometimes Its Just About the Food 2/13/2008

If want excellent burgers, fries, etc., Red Coat is the place to go. If for some reason you need everyone to be nice to you...well, find somewhere else to go. The place is always packed with customers and servers everywhere competiting for standing room. The hostesses are rude because they have to be, and who cares if they are. Did you really go to Red Coat to make friends? If you want five star service...try Capital Grill. The lighting is also horrible, it hangs over you with its hideous red hue and no one argues with that, but no one would dare change it either. Me, I go for the five star hamburgers, and they deliver every time. more

Not worth it 1/19/2008

Not worth the wait....not worth the price....not worth the effort.\r \r A poorly operated establishment. more

Horrible Customer Serivce!!! 12/28/2007

I have been to RedCoat before, and yes the burgers are very good. However, the hostesses are extremely rude. We did the call ahead seating and did not know that all members in out party had to be present in order to be seated. 2 members out of our party of 9 were running late. They ended up giving away our table and we would have had to start all over and would have had to wait another 45 minutes. I am sure that they get stuck with empty tables a lot, but the way the situation was handled was very poor. The other 2 members were only 3 miles away and they gave away our table. I don't think I will be returning again. Pros: Good burgers Cons: Rude staff more

Cozy Dark Great Drinks & Food 12/5/2007

This place is one of the best!!! It is dark and cozy! The bartenders are the best...Great drinks...A place to get away from the bright wide open restaurants...You have to get there early to get a spot at the bar, but it is well worth it!!!! Pros: Dark and Cozy Cons: Gets very busy more

GREAT FOOD AND DRINKS!!! 11/5/2007

One of the best burgers you will ever have! Their cole slaw, onion rings, fish and chips, scotch eggs, and mixed drinks also deserve top honors. There is always a wait at the door, so plan accordingly. Parking is not great, but accessible and it is not a place suitable for infants. \r The comment made above by talyn1978 is very odd. I also have a severe peanut allergy, but have never been concerned or had an incident with peanuts in a burger. He/she should plan and order accordingly, this is not an issue specific to this restaurant.\r If you haven't been to Red Coat, you are missing out! Pros: Food Cons: Wait, Receptionists abrupt more

Best Burgers in Town 9/28/2007

Best burgers in town! There usually is a long wait, but you can call ahead and make a 'reservation'. Fries are not really that great, but onion rings.... oh my! Try it. Pros: Great food! Cons: Busy; kinda too dark! more

This is response to the person who says that Red Coat Tavern is unfriendly to babies: It's a bar you idiot. Stay home with your drooling brat. Babies don't need to be in bars Pros: Good food good service Cons: They late babies in now more

Food Allergy Suffers Beware! 7/19/2007

Probably the WORST customer service I have ever experienced. I have a deadly peanut allergy and must always check if a restaurant I plan at dining at uses any peanut products. I called this establishment to verify this information and was told by the hostess (or whoever answers the phone) that she has no idea what they use and that she will not be checking for me because they are busy. Um? hello? I then asked to speak to the manager and she spoke for them in saying the same thing over again. She suggested I just ask the waitress after I?m seated. I explained that my party will not be going there if I cannot eat there and she again just said she cannot check for me and that I will have to ask when I get there. That is just completely ridiculous? A peanut allergy is not something new in this day and age and it is extremely sad that this establishment allows for such rude employees who ultimately just end up turning away business. more

New Kid on the Block. 5/12/2007

Although Red Coat has a good burger, there is a new kid on the block. Mr. Brewstirs and folks say they have the best burger in Michigan. Everyone can check out a Mr. Brewstir's burger on Saturday May 26 2007 they are having another free hamburger day. So look out Red Coat there a new kid on the block. Google Mr. Brewstirs for details. Pros: Good burger Cons: Busy place more

Had a crappy experience-avoid friday nights too!! 3/16/2007

So this was our first time to the Red Coat Tavern so we had high expectations since we've heard nothing but good things! HOWEVER, we had a crappy experience....\r Ok, so it started out that I had ordered a diet soda and it came flat....waitress replaced it, but it was flat again....\r next came our burgers which were excellent! however, they forgot the pickle on my husbands dish, we ordered onion rings and they were ICE COLD.....waitress did take them back but since they were so busy, we didn't get them until after we were finished eating our burgers (altho I must say they were really good the 2nd time)...so our bill comes to $21.14 and I gave the waitress $40.25.....I got back $13.85....so they shorted me $5.00 plus change.... and when I told her right away we got a dirty look like I was lying....\r \r I think it will be a while before we go again....we might go earlier in the day on a weekend when it is not so busy and we can receive a little bit better service/food. more
