Best

Every time that my husband and I have family or visitors come to town, we go to Primanti Brothers in the Strip District. Sure - there are closer Primanti's, but the suburban locat...

Worst

Not everyone likes a meal held together by two slices of bread. My wife bragged about these sandwiches so I tried one, my last one. I still like to pick what goes in my stomach. ...

Permanti's needs to update 8/12/2003

The last two times I've been to Permanti's are my last two times. Both times I took out of town guest because it's the ""Pittsburgh thing"". Never again, Sandwiches were dry, overpriced, and waitresses seemed to hurried to be friendly. I'll take the O in Murraysville of Mike's Diner in Cheswick for best value Cons: service, food quality, value more

Pittsburgh in a Roll 8/5/2003

W.PA is a fantastic blend of ethnic groups- they are what the Steel City was built on. Why shouldn't the best food in PGH epitomize the characteristic so unique to PGH? The food awesome, service exacltly what you should expect and prices affordable. I've never had a beter made-to-order meal. It was started in Strip District for working men. Good, filling, original eat-on-the-go food that the average person can afford. And quit dissing the slaw! In most areas of the country, (contrary to what KFC tells you) slaw is vinegar-based and Primanti's happens to be some of the best I have ever tasted. Don't change a thing! Perhaps the people that don't like it should frequent somewhere really original & tasty like McDonalds. Yum. As for the rest of us - keep up the good work. It's good to know that we can still count on good food in PGH. Pros: Menu/quality, Price, Local color Cons: locations more

A Pittsburgh legend 5/2/2003

good food, and obviously highly unique. The best part is the ambiance and the surroundings, so I would suggest the original in the Strip District. Well known throughout the country, but very Pittsburgh-like. Pros: ambiance, tradition more

EXTREMELY OVER-RATED!! 3/27/2003

I was looking forward to trying my first Primanti Sandwich - I heard so much about it and even saw it on a Food Network show. However, when my I bit into the sandwich I realized I had wasted $5. The bread was not good Italian bread (quite crumbly), the cole slaw wasn't the good creamy kind (it was basically cabbage soaked in vinegar), the fries were soggy and excessive (all I could actually taste on my sandwich was a huge pile of undercooked fries), and the ""cheesesteak"" was nothing more than a sort of hamburger with a very small amount of cheese. To choke down my dry, greasy sandwich, I had to dump mounds of ketchup onto it. I think people praise this place because it is known as a Pittsburgh institution. Or they have eaten there after a night of drinking and think any food is tasty!! Pros: Cheap Cons: Awful Food, Dingy Atmosphere more

overrated 2/7/2003

Not everyone likes a meal held together by two slices of bread. My wife bragged about these sandwiches so I tried one, my last one. I still like to pick what goes in my stomach. Pros: Easy parking Cons: Very loud, Extremely poor servic, Food slung at us more

perfect place to go to begin or end a booze filled night. Great sangwiches and decent selection of beer. Pros: food, price, booze available Cons: no parking, service needs help more

PRIMO 2/7/2003

Fast, cheap, delicious...gotta get the grass and the spuds on any sandwich more

AWESOME!! 2/7/2003

Nothing beats a hot steak sandwich from Primanti's topped with french fries and homemade cole slaw. These are not only original but very cheap. If you've never tried Primanti's, what are you waiting for?!?! Pros: Inexpensive, Unique FABULOUS food, Original Cons: Crowded during rushes, Most only take cash more

Primanti Heaven 1/29/2003

Primanti Brothers is the best experience that you will ever have. If you are in the mood for the best tasting unique sandwich for just a few bucks, then you will definitely get it here! Other restaurants copying Primanti's famous coleslaw and fry sandwich don't even come close!! Pros: Inexpensive, Multiple locations, delicious more

Visiting PGH? Visit Primanti Brothers #1 1/29/2003

In all my travels, in all the cities I've ever lived in, there's never been casual dining quite like Primanti Bros! I had not been back home to PGH in over 15 years, and my first stop was this late-night favorite. They start with the freshest rolls, pile 'em high with the best deli meats ever and top it all off with fries and slaw. That's right ... you're entire meal is on one sloppy, heavenly, ingenious sandwich. Don't take the kids, though, if you're headed to the original late-night location. It's a tight squeeze and you'll be rubbing elbows with the most eclectic mix of individuals you've ever seen. I'd fly to PGH just for Primanti Bros! Pros: Fun, Unusual, Late Night Cons: None! more

The Best Ever, no where else compares. 12/25/2002

To me, Primanti Brothers is home. I grew up in Pittsburgh and have many incredible memories of Primanti's that will always be with me. Whenever I return for a visit to Pittsburgh, I always stop by for a bite to eat. more

good stuff 12/25/2002

Fast, good food with a Pittsburgh twist. Friendly atmosphere in the heart of the strip, what more could a steeler fan ask for. more

sober & sorry 12/24/2002

I think the food is highly overrated. I find the ingredients used in the sandwiches of low quality Pros: outside dining, bar, ample [parking Cons: overrated, sandwiches more

a must try sandwich 11/30/2002

Ive alway heard everyone talking about this place, well worth the trip from erie to eat one of the best steak sandwiches ive ever had. The cole slaw was better yet. French fries appear to be fresh cut. you can sit right at the coutner and watch them make your sandwich. They were so good, ordered a couple to take home with me. I definetly will be making a trip back for more. more

A Pgh. Tradition 11/27/2002

If you love an entire meal in one sandwich, this is your place to be. Whether you go to the Strip District, the ballparks, the South Side or Crafton, Primanti's is the greatest. Your favorite meats, eggs, and wants on a big sandwich with the fries and slaw right on top. I'm not a slaw person, but these sammies are excellent. Enjoy a beer and sammie Pros: Great Food, Decent prices, Great reputation Cons: No hamburger on menu, parking (SS and Strip more

dirty 10/30/2002

The place is very dirty. The pizza is soggy and greasy. It's not what it used to be. The only good thing they have going is their fries. They're served in huge portions with cheese. more

over rated 10/28/2002

Although it's a very unique idea - piling every imaginable side dish onto one sandwich - it doesn't please the palette! more

helpful staff 10/25/2002

very clean, no waiting long time for your waitress. very helpfull staff when their is someone handicap. more

Coleslaw!? Please... 10/22/2002

Primanti Brothers is the most over rated restaurant in the pittsburgh area. And it is not cheap. The food combinations are grotesque!!!! more
