Editorial review from Citysearch 11/23/2013

We took our 4 legged son in for what we thought was a ""cough"" is was actually a ""snort"".We found after testing he has tonsillitis, Dr. Johnson gave him 2 shots, antibiotics and discussed a diet of cooked chicken, cottage cheese, hard boiled eggs and veggies to add moisture and nutrition to his coat and immune system. We had to wait along time but when we found out the reason, we didn't mind. I will take all of my furry children to Dr Johnson she really cares about her patients. Thank you Dr Johnson from Spike Loeffelholz' family more

Editorial review from Citysearch 7/5/2012

I can not thank them enough for everything they did for my dog!! They saved his life!! He was so sick when I brought him in we found out that he had diabetes. They had to keep him there for two week to get his sugar regulated. We were able to go and visit him and just spend some time with my friend. Dr Johnson went out of her way to help me with his meds and food and showed me what I have to do to keep him healthy.\r Dr Johnson, THANK YOU for all your help!! \r You will not find a better vet in Albuquerque!!! more

Dr. Johnson saves my Mambo's life twice!!!!!! 4/1/2012

I know that the Pondarosa Animal Clinic has gotten a bad wrap, but Dr. Johnson TRULY cares about all of the animals that come into her clinic. She is a sweet and caring vet who seems harsher than she realy is. She saved my chihuahuas life twice and was gracious enough to let me pay in payments. I am extremely thankful to her for all the care she gave my dog. It's true that the Pondarosa Clinic is not the most up to date clinic, but Dr. Johnson is a great lady that tries to keep her costs lower that any other vet in town. I wish there were more than the five stars as a rating because I would give this woman a million stars. Thank you Dr. Johnson for all you do!!! from Maria, Mambo, Lucas, and Nina. We recomend the Pondarosa Clinic 100%. :D more

HEARTLESS,CRUEL & SICK 12/31/2011

I think it is very important for a human being to understand that the most important part of life is family which includes your pets. I took my family pet to this absurd, rude and HEARTLESS old bat to say the least because I was referred by the Animal Humane Society. If this organization intends to keep referring this cruel old bat to anyone, THINK AGAIN, or better yet read her reviews. Big Mistake, Big Mistake! This place needs to be reviewed by the City's Animal Control or referred to the Better Business Bureau. People of this great city of Albuquerque and/or surrounding areas. Please think because your pet will never be the same. Her employees are rude and her accountant I believe is her daughter are on the TAKE!! I am giving you fair warning! IF YOU CARE FOR YOUR FAMILY PET DO NOT VISIT THIS PLACE. YOU'LL BE SORRY! more

Pet Care Most Important 11/16/2010

My dog Skeeter is a mixed breed with a long body and short legs. Recently, I took him to see Dr. Johnson @ the Ponderosa Animal Clinic. The main reason I chose this place is that the ad in the telephone book says low-cost pricing available, I had limited funds and my dog hurt his back playing and they agreed to see him immediately. I was somewhat put off because the lobby was dirty with a lot of dust and cobwebs and not to mention the slightly rude middle-aged receptionist, and Dr. Johnson is elderly, but knowledgable. She really seems to care about animals and I felt that my dog received excellent medical care. Although the doctor is very stern in her approach, she made me feel that my dog had received the best care possible. She was reasonable when it came time to pay the bill which turned out to be more than she anticicpated and allowed me to pay my balance the next day after I had already picked up my dog. Overall, my pet received great medical care, which is the most important reason for this review. Margie Massey more

Lyers 11/29/2009

I saw the ad in the paper for 5 chihuahua cross puppies so I called and they made me wait for 4 days before I got a call back ( the doctor was supposedly very busy) when I finally got there it was 1 dog that was not a puppy and not a chihuahua and they said that they found him on the street. Don't be fooled by their tricks! Cons: They lied to me and the place was dirty and it smelled bad. more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE!!!!!!!!!!! 9/9/2009

This is the worst place my family and I have ever been. My big dog broke my 2.6 pound dogs frount right leg, I called animal humane for help and they reffered me to Ponderosa Animal Clinic because I needed a vet that would take payments. We dropped Tatter Tot off and came back for him the next day and they said we could NOT have our dog unless we paid $380 and that their was no payment arrangements they do not take payments. They then kicked my mom my 5 month old daughter and I out and locked the door like we were going to rob them or somethng they then called the cops as so did we. Their was nothing the cops could or us my mom paid $100 but we asked for a note saying they would not put our puppy to sleep or give him away and they refused to write or sign anything..... I am still trying to get my daughters puppy back. PLEASE PLEASE IF YOUR LOVE YOUR PETS DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE Pros: NOTHING Cons: EVERYTHING more

Careless Animal Clinic 4/4/2009

My cat has skin cancer, and we took him in to have him checked up. The vet recommended having his ears removed, as tumors were clearly visible. Didn't say anything about similar looking marks on his paws, leading me to wonder if she even bothered to do a thorough evaluation before she recommended chopping off body parts. Took the cat in for scheduled surgery at 11 am Saturday morning. Called that afternoon to check on him, vet said she hadn't done the surgery yet, she'd perform it the next day ""at her leisure,"" so our poor traumatized cat was stuck in this new and terrifying place overnight for no obvious reason. Receptionist was clearly a moron, didn't know anything about our appointment, and asked if the meowing animal in our open cat carrier ""was a cat."" The entire experience was entirely nerve-wracking, and I will do my damndest to turn everyone I know away from this craphole. It's all I can do from going back in there and punching someone in the face. Pros: Old vet, lots of experience. Cons: Careless attitudes. more

GO THERE AGAIN? 9/29/2008

Took my dog in and an old, 70ish female vet said the only way to treat the ailment was surgery for $600. The vet drew labsfor $79. The next day I took the dog to another clinic. They said the ear could be treated with a drain, cost $225. They didn't even suggest surgery. They also took my dogs temperature and found she had a fever. \r They (Manzano Animal clinic) did the procedure, held my dog several hours till my husband could pick her up, at no additional cost and sent her home with medications. \r As another reviewer said, the receptionist is rude and haughty. The second vet also couldn't get the lab results form Ponderosa although they asked for them twice. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. PS this website wouldn't take my review until I changed the rating to average. Pros: They draw labs but you'll have a hard time getting the results. Cons: Too many to list more

Terrible Vet 9/25/2008

Terrible experience! Receptionist was very rude only to find out that she is the Vet's daughter so she can get away with being rude. Was told test results would be in next day and was instructed to call them next day for results. Called them back for four days in a row and was always told that they would get back to me. I had to physically go back into the vet's office to get test results. I then had to take my pet to another vet for help. My new vet could not believe how this practice is ran and is actually still in business. more

Bad vet this was the worst experience they dont care about your pet at all 7/3/2008

I took my dog in because he was ill they kept him and put him on IV'S they would not let me see my dog the receptionst was terrible. I had to call the police to get my dog out and it costs me an arm and a leg after the vet (female) said she would work with me. more

Awesome veterenary experience! 2/24/2008

I have never writen a review before, but felt compelled to do so for the staff at Ponderosa.\r \r I have three cats, two dogs and Ponderosa Animal Clinic has taken care of all their needs, from shots to declaw and spaying. They can handle anything from routine to emergency procedures in a very humane way (they made sure that as the animal owner I understood the process and what is involved in every procedure and kept me updated every step of the way).\r \r I recommend their services to all my friends every chance I get and wanted to share my experience with you, when you need a place you can trust the family pet - Ponderosa is the place to go. Pros: Old fashion clinic, easy to get to location, family run. Cons: can't think of any... more
