first and last time. Orange juice was advertises as ""fresh squeezed"", but was clearly out of a bottle. When I inquired, the owner (I'm told) brought out the bottle and pointed out where it said ""fresh squeezed"". I'm sorry, but if a restaurant says fresh squeezed, they need to do it there. This was clearly not, and tasted as if had been in the fridge for a while, or at least squeezed some time ago. Not only that, but they added ice to try and hide the taste. more

Best Sandwiches In Town! 11/16/2010

Great spot to sit down and eat, also a life saver for dinner to go. I first went to pinon about a year ago, and it has since become a regular stop for me. Every day they have a different selection of made-from scratch entrees, salads, desserts, baked goods, AND the best sandwiches in town! They bake homemade bread every day, and it is incredible to say the least, especially the focaccia and sourdough. Try the Cobb or BLT & B. Most underrated restaurant in town! more

The Best Cafe 11/11/2010

The food is exceptional and the staff very friendly. The owner, Victoria Topham, is super nice and loves to bake. My favorite thing is the sandwiches made from homemade bread and all fresh foods. more

Great Selection of Fresh Foods 11/10/2010

Pinon market 7 Cafe is where I prefer to have breakfast or lunch on Saturdays. The menu offers a generous variety of delicious, beautifully presented sandwiches, salads, daily specials and wonderful baked goods. Everything is made with the freshest, high-quality ingredients. The patio is a great place to relax on a weekend morning. more

Great for Dinner and Concert Picnics 10/27/2009

I pick up curry chicken salad a few times a month on my way to teach. My students always ask were I get me food from. Pros: quick, easy, UMM Cons: Pricey more

Was Good... Now BAD!!! 7/3/2009

I came to Pinon after hearing that the new chef made some outstanding soup. It was excellent. Best Curried Squash Soup I've ever had. The Chicken Pot-Pies in the display case fooled my family into thinking I could actually cook! I started coming two to three times a week and then the chef disappeared and so did the other customers. I traveled abroad for the past 6-7 months and I thought I'd give it another try. Bland and uncomfortable. the owner/manager gives you a weird feeling. you can't even relax. Many better places in the area to goto. Pros: Close to Sugar House area Cons: Weird Owner/Manager more

Great food, Great Environment. 5/14/2009

The service at Pinon was kind and my party and I were well taken care of. To top it off, the food was absolutely wonderful. The owner was there the day we went, and she was also incredibly nice. I reccomend checking out both their entres and their list of sandwiches. They even had grilled cheese for our children. Much better than the packaged restuarants that around in so much bulk. Pinon has a unique and very yummy experience for those that go there. Pros: A good variety of options, and great food. more

Used to be great..... 3/26/2009

Well, I used to go here for lunch once a week for about 3 years. I loved the variety of foods and creativity. It was always delicious! The last 2 times I have been there, the food was bland, as was my friend's food. We haven't been back since. Something changed, and not for the better! Pros: variety of food Cons: sometimes crowded more

FEELS LIKE HOME 2/28/2009

Vicki, the owner of Pinon, has a mission to connect with each customer over amazing food and good conversation. The food is fresh with home baked breads for the sandwiches, amazing salads with delicious vinaigrettes, and sweets that make it impossible to decide on. I loved the chocolate mint cookies.I wish I had a place like this in my home town as it seems like everyone coming in has a real connection to the place. Pros: Warm people working there and great food. more

Excellent 7/13/2005

Great saturday brunch on the dog friendly patio. Excellent sandwiches on home made breads. Pros: fresh foods, sandwiches, brunch more

Best chocolate Silk in S.L.C. 11/23/2004

Go for the chocolate Silk; a two inch thick, black, solid slab of the tastiest chocolate you will ever have (available on occasion). The Key lime pie is good if you remove the pasty whipped cream. The banana cream pie is horrible. It has the same pasty whipped cream and a forgetable filling. It is not worth ordering. The lemon pie does not have any whipped cream, and is worth getting. Pros: Chocolate Silk, Lemon pie, Parking/neighborhood Cons: , Banana cream pie, Cheesecake more

""They Don't Get It"" 7/11/2004

This place has the best Chocolate Decadence ""cake"" in Utah - do they know it? - yes, they've been told many times - is it available consistently? -NO! Their competition is Red Butte cafe with better desserts. Pinon could compete but can't get their act together - we called early one day to see if the chocolate cake would be available - we got there at 1:00 PM and ""it won't be ready for two hours"" - oh well! This place has great potential, and the owner is very nice - but she needs to concentrate on what she does best - forget the pastey banana cream pie with the awful whipped cream topping, the flat tasteless lemon bars and quick breads - fill the place with customers - bad sign - nobody is ever in there - I see the death knell for this place if things don't change! Pros: Chocolate Cake!, Chocolate cake!, chocolate cake! Cons: , lemon bars, no customers??? more

You thought it was fresh 10/16/2003

Seeing as the last reveiw of this place is a year old it needs an update. I use to think the food here was fresh until I ordered a ""Fresh"" Cherry Pie 4 days in advance and was given one that was 4 days old, the owner had no problem stating it wasn't quite fresh. Since that time I have heard that all food is made at least two days in advance. Not to mention the outrageous prices. She wants $2.50 for a Rice Krispie treat. I've eaten at cheaper and better places in NYC where does the owner come off with this pricey ala carte attitude in SLC, her stuff ain't that great. Pros: Quick, Easy Cons: Not Fresh, Expensive, Lame Atmosphere more

Gitty Up! 10/16/2002

Try the spicey pasta salad. Try EVERYTHING! This place is fantastic. Great location. Nice area. I'll go back every time I'm in Utah. more

Casual dining 7/24/2002

This is a great place to stop for a casual meal- upscale sandwiches, pasta salads, desserts. One evening, I tried the Vietnamese style crepe. It was lovely- a hint of coconut in the crepe with well-prepared vegetables, and shrimp. I've enjoyed everything there, except the scones. The sandwiches aren't your run of the mill- my only complaint is that if you wanted chips, you'd have to spring for them. more

Eat Where Coach Rick Majeras Goes! 6/12/2002

Pinon has some good sandwiches including the grilled chicken, pastrami, turkey among others. But what the real treat here is is the desserts. Key Lime pie, chocolate decadence, giant chocolate chip cookies you dreamt about as a kid, and the best zucchini bread this side of the Mississippi (and maybe the other side too). The crew here is energetic and busy all times of the day. Bring your pup too as they have dog parking outside and fresh baked biscuits at the counter. A can't lose lunching spot with plenty of supper dishes to go (or stay) that change frequently. Pros: good parking, epic east bench pad Cons: zucchini bread goes--, QUICK! more
