KILLED MY BIRD 6/5/2014

TERRIBLE staff and TERRIBLE service!\r \r I took my three birds (two parakeets and one green cheek conure) to have their nails and wings clipped. I warned the staff that the parakeets have not had their nails clipped so they might be skittish. They took the birds back and I waited outside. 20 minutes later I was asked to come back into the employee's area because there was a problem...the technician had KILLED one of the PARAKEETS, because she said the bird was trying to fly out of her hands so she held it tighter but and accidentally snapped it's neck! \r However, I would like to note that this employee (Pati) was on her bluetooth set, still talking to someone while I was in the room, and I saw them on her full-screen skype video she had on her laptop that was set up right where she was working. The bird was literally on the edge of the laptop, clearly this employee was distracted! \r On top of that, the sales manager, Jeremy, had horrible customer service, and said that this is not worth more

TERRIBLE staff and TERRIBLE service!\r \r I took my three birds (two parakeets and one green cheek conure) to have their nails and wings clipped. The bird was literally on the edge of the laptop, clearly this employee was distracted! \r On top of that, the sales manager, Jeremy, had horrible customer service, and said that this is not worth a fuss over just a bird. He claimed that if it was a dog it's different they are more expensive, however these are cheap birds and you can just replace them. He did not believe in any emotional investment one might have in their non-dog pets what-so-ever.\r To top it off, the next day when we went back to talk to the store owner, the technician claimed that she did not in fact kill the bird, the bird was already dead! (Why in the world would someone bring in a dead bird to have their wings and nails clipped?) more

Petland gets puppies from puppy mills! 9/30/2011

BOYCOTT PETLAND! They get puppies from puppy mills. They call them "reputable breeders," but that's their opinion of people who keep dogs in what a normal, caring person would consider disgusting, poor conditions. Check out the USDA inspection records of some of their breeders and you will see.You can find these at acissearch.aphis.usda.gov/LPASearch/faces/Warning.jspx more

Growing Reputation 3/8/2011

Please do your research before supporting this store. You can briefly look over Petland's history with legal issues in regards to their puppies as well as information from an undercover investigation that was shown on Animal Planet. Here is the link to an article about the special that was aired on Animal Planet: http://press.discovery.com/us/apl/press-releases/2010/disturbing-questions-about-largest-us-pet-retailer/\r This link briefly goes over the growing reputation of this chain store and their policies:\r http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Petland\r \r For my own review, the few times I've gone to check on the health of the animals there always appears to be something wrong, and all the manager does is put the animal into the back room, and if it's a mouse, he freezes them. The service at this Fairfax Petland is beyond awful, the staff is pushy when it comes to sales, but know very little about what they're selling.\r If you care about animals, please don't support this place. more

Best place to find your next pet 1/10/2008

I went to MANY different pet stores in Northern VA to find just the right puppy for my family. I can honestly say that by far the cleanest, best groomed pet store in the area is Petland in Fairfax. \r \r No, really. I can't stress enough how CLEAN the store is.\r \r The habitats for all of their animals - puppies, guinea pigs, bunnies, birds, ferrets, even snakes - are VERY clean and well stocked with the essentials. All of their animals look very comfortable and all of their puppies are given a full health exam by a veterinarian before they are allowed to even be held by customers.\r \r The employees are very helpful and knowledgeable, especially the manager who took the time to help me select the right breed for my family (and steer me away from the breeds that would have not been a good fit, even though the Pomeranian that I was looking at was much more expensive that the Cavalier King Charles I ended up taking home).\r \r Their puppy prices are VERY competitive compared to other pet stores more

The Value of a Petland Puppy

All puppies are examined by a licensed, consulting veterinarian in store prior to sale. A record of the veterinarian's findings is maintained for each puppy. If applicable, a state health certificate is completed.

All puppies and kittens are current on inoculations and de-worming as prescribed by the consulting veterinarian.

Customers receive a complimentary post sale veterinarian exam from the stores consulting veterinarian.

Customers receive a two-part training DVD and free unlimited toll-free training and behavioral consultation from Dogstar Productions. Dogstar Productions is led by Brian Donovan, a nationally recognized dog trainer and staffed by certified dog trainers.

Puppies are micro-chipped for lifetime identification in case they are lost or stolen.

Pure breed puppies often have a pedigree with a family tree history.

Trained Pet Counselors educate customers on pet choices and the care of their pet by exceeding the pet's four basic needs.

Puppies go home with a two-part warranty. The first part is a 14-day warranty on the health of the puppy, and the second part is a one-year warranty against hereditary.
