Great Food for Vegans & Non-Vegans...that's it! 5/16/2011

Pala has a whole vegan and non-vegan menu which makes it a great place for everyone. Their pizza is amazing! Hands down best vegan pie I have ever had. Their ?Funghi & Salsiccia Pizza? is so tasty even non-vegan?s that dined with me loved it! Oh and they offer gluten free dough as well. Now, I can't say enough how great the pizza is. I must make a complaint?or two. They tend to have a weird obsession with seating people right next to each other, despite the fact that the restaurant is empty. This has happened to me on several separate occasions wherein there was just a handful of customers and they will not allow you to be seated wherever you would like?instead they make sure to seat you right next to the only other table in the whole place. Oh and the tables are about 10 inches apart from one another. My other complaint is I have dined here several times, within weeks to months apart and their bathroom is always dirty and very unkempt. Poorly maintained is a severe understatement. Since my first time dining here they still have yet to repair the lock on the door of the only restroom in the place. Never napkins or soap either. My suggestion, take your pizza to go! more

The only pizza worth eating 1/11/2010

There simply is no crust like the pizza crust at Pal?'s. None. I've had many pizzas over the years and this tops them all. As my 16 year old neighbor put it, after tasting a cold left over slice I had brought uptown with me, ""it's ridiculous""...in his language this means ""it's so good, it's just ridiculous...no words can describe it."" Pros: There is no other crust like it, and the toppings are superb Cons: Did not discover any more

Wow!!! 12/3/2008

I have been to Pala` Pizza and had a great experience. The food was great, I reluctantly tried the all wheat pasta with tomato sauce (I was with friends and they wanted to have pizza and something else) and it was amazing. The pizzas are soooo different from anything you could find around... I loved the crust which, again is not common in NY. I found them also easily digestible. But the dessert was what surprised me the most.... over all a great find and the ambience was very interesting mix. Pros: Food (and that's the most important thing), ambience, good energy Cons: noisy more

Such a shame the food is SO good but the manager is SO nasty 9/22/2008

I was so excited to take my friend out to Pala for his 25th birthday after all of the wonderful things I heard about. The food certainly lived up to my expectations and the outdoor ambience of the LES, provided by the open street front. gave the place a great energy. The mixed drinks were well prepared and the gnocchi was out of this world. The pizza is what this place is really known for and between The Inferno and the Cheese with Truffle oil I was in heaven. Pros: Food and Great Staff Cons: Horrible Monstrous Manager more

YUM! 5/23/2008

The pizza is amazing. It's different from any other pizza I've had. The crust is soft and melts in your mouth. The toppings are perfect. The wine list is good. And it turns out that on Mon-Thurs they have an AWESOME two person dinner deal: split a salad, 1 foot pizza, 1 dessert, and two glasses of wine for $35. Great casual date place. Pros: Pizza! Service Cons: The tables are a bit big for intimate conversation more

Tasty Pizzes in a Relaxed, Lounge-like Setting 5/15/2008

Four members of Meetup's New York City Thrifty Gourmets group and I field-tested Pala this past Tuesday night. FOOD: The fried calimari had a tasty, spicy coating, but the seafood itself was almost tough. The dollops of goat cheese on the zucchina pizze were fresh and flavorful, but the flavors of its other ingredients were not distinctive. The thin slices of soppresetta on the inferno pizze were fresh and peppery, perhaps too much so. Their tanginess overwhelmed the flavors of the other ingredients. The zucca pizze was the outstanding dish of the evening. The smoky richness of the scamorza melded perfectly with the saltiness of the pancetta. A bite of this pizze reminded me of a delicious ham & cheese omelet on a thin slice of toast made from fine bread. SERVICE: Our reservation, made through OpenTable, was honored, we were greeted warmly, and our table was set up in advance of our arrival. The restaurant appeared understaffed, though, as servers were scrambling to cover the tables. Our server attended to us infrequently. ATMOSPHERE: The restaurant had the feel of a slightly cramped, but not crowded, lounge with low lighting and 80s and 90s dance music in the background. The restroom was messy but acceptably clean. VALUE: Calimari appetizer+three shared pizzes+one beer+tax & tip=$22/person. Pros: Fresh, flavorful ingredients. Relaxed, low-key setting. Cons: Amount and attentiveness of staff. more

What an experience!! 12/26/2007

We went as a group and had a wonderful time. The appetizers were delicious and easy for sharing. The staff was amazing and THE PIZZA tastes like a slice of Italy. Come hungry and with no preconceived notions about pizza you've tasted before. more

Good Group Location 10/8/2007

My students and I met at Pala for dinner in late September. There were 24 of us and the restaurant was more than willing to fit us in. We ordered the calamari and the risotto. The calamari was a bit bland, but the risotto was a winner with the table. They were perfectly fried and served with a simple tomato sauce. Pros: Different types of pizza--variety Cons: Inconvenient payment more

Simply The Best Pizza ANYWHERE! 10/1/2007

Pala has become a favorite destination for my friends and I for every occasion! I can't describe the overwhelming cravings I get now for their amazing zucca pizza, or the spinach salad. The wine list appeals to everyone and is quite reasonable. Be sure to try the red lambrusco or the proseco. Nothing beats sitting outdoors, or in their cozy but airy space on a nice autumn evening. There's a very comfortable vibe all around, and the staff is extremely friendly and attentive. It's definitely worth every minute of the drive in all the way from the outer boroughs! Pros: Food, Wine, Atmosphere more

Great Find, Delicously Simple, Rude Female Manager/Owner 9/20/2007

I have visited Pala a few times and thoroughly enjoyed the simple menu, wonderful roman style pizzas, simple antipasti, great wines, wonderful italian waitstaff. However my whole experience has been ruined by the female manager/owner who was so rude when we asked her a question that we felt as though we should not return. I feel that it's such ashame that she does not care enough about her own customers; that's what has compelled me to write this review. I am hoping she will get the message and turn herself around. more

Something New! 3/20/2007

A friend of mine told me I had to try this place. I trekked across town because he wouldn't stop bothering me. Well, I gotta say it was worth it. It wasn't too pricey and it was definitely a unique taste that I haven't had before. Maybe i was just really hungry because of the walk but I had a good time and would recommend anyone who hasn't tried this place to try it! more

PALA PIZZA: 12 INCHES OF HEAVEN 3/19/2007

What do you get when you mix an Italian and a Puerto Rican? It's definitely not the opening line of a bad joke, or West Side Story for that matter. In actuality, it's the beginning of some pretty amazing, fabulous, sold by the foot, mouth watering, gourmet, 9-12 types of organic flour, two-five days to rise, words can't even describe pizza/italian spot with the best wine I've ever had! Add to that a friendly, attentive staff and you have yourself a win-win situation! Pros: Everything...food, service, ambiance, decor, music, bathroom, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera... Cons: Some may complain that it's pricey because afterall it's only pizza; however you've never truly had pizza until you've had Pala pizza...you only think you have... Pala is on a whole other level! more

Wopie Doo 10/17/2006

Perfect for large parties 10/2/2006

We had a birthday party for my husband and a friend at Pala last night. The owners and staff could not have been any nicer to deal with from planning to excecution. They made suggestions about what food and how much to order, wine, dessert, etc. They were extremely accomodating on every level and the food was delicious. Appetizer standouts were the meatballs and arancini and the salad with baby spinach, pears and gorgonzola was excellent. With all of the pizza options there was something for everyone and the wine list was very reasonable. The rustic decor is simple and stylis--I would recommend that anyone planning a casual dinner party consider Pala. more
