Save your money. I never write reviews, but this was such a rip off I felt compelled. Way overrated. I've had much better $60 haircuts. more

Anila is amazing! Have had some good haircuts from here and some bad, I think it really depends on who you go to and whether they're in a rush. Highly recommend Anila, though, she gave me a great haircut, and one week later, I'm still thrilled :) more

blah haircut, though fun experience 11/10/2010

I tried the Ouidad Salon after my mom bought me a present of a trial size bag of the ouidad hair products. I LOVE the ouidad hair products! The heat and humidity gel is awesome- it can keep my hair from frizzing almost every day. So I was super excited to go to the salon that was known for dealing with curly hair. The price scared me a little bit- in brooklyn I'm used to paying closer to $60 for a cut, but at Ouidad, it's more like $120 and up, but I decided having a great cut would be worth it. My experience at the salon was fine, even a bit fun at times. It was fun being in a place with only other people who had curly hair!! However, I was constantly passed back and forth between two people, making me feel like I didn't really have a connection with the woman who was cutting. I am growing my hair out, and ask for more shape and body. She took about 4 minutes to cut all of my wildly big and long hair. It didn't seem like enough time cutting to create more body, but I was suddenly shuffled off to another person, so I didn't get to tell her. The shampoo session and blow dry session was great, with one of the assistants, because she told me what she was doing the whole time, and it was like getting a lesson in how to take care of your curly hair. However, I have never been able to duplicate the curls they produced that day, and my haircut has absolutely NO body, it just hangs off my scalp. I've had much much better $60 haircuts in brooklyn. When I left the salon, I bought all the products, had to tip two people almost equally, paid for a very expensive haircut, and ended up spending over $220. I haven't been happy with my cut except for that first day. I won't be going back. more

Why Curly Girls Love Their Hair. 3/15/2010

As a non-profit director, and mother of a teenager about to leave for college, I can't always justify my beauty purchases, but when it comes to Ouidad... I can. I am sure Ouidad created the bible on curly hair, and if she didn't, I'm still giving her credit for it. 15 years ago, my then-boss told me that I would forever be amazed at this artist's work - she was right. I've even used just about all of her products and each one makes me happy, every time I use them (anti-humidity gel...can't beat this product in the summer). Pros: Completely NOT over-hyped! Cons: A little expensive, but it is your hair! more

Love their work 10/7/2009

I was a little worried after reading some of the reviews on here about the appointment I had booked....I shouldn't have been. I just got home from my afternoon at the salon and I just absolutely LOVE my new haircut. I saw Melissa and she was really helpful in telling me exactly how to handle my very curly hair. She talked to me as she was cutting and styling so that I would know what to do once I got home and had to do this myself. A lot of the reviews here said that the stylists were pushy about buying the Ouidad products, but I did not have this problem. Melissa told me about the products that she was using, but never pushed me into buying anything. Also people were saying how they came out of the salon with crunchy hair. My hair is so soft. She only used three products on me. A leave in conditioner, gel and a pomade. At first it did seem like she was putting in a lot of gel, but after seeing the affect and the way my hair responded to what she was doing, it really didn't matter. All of the staff there were very friendly asking if I wanted something to drink and making sure that I was comfortable the entire time I was there. The only thing I did not like about the salon was the price. I paid $125.00 for my cut. I have never paid that much for a haircut in my life. Was it worth it?...yes, most definately and I would do it again in a heartbeat. The only reason I did not give 5 stars was because of the price. Everything else was wonderful Pros: Friendly and knowledable staff Cons: Price more

What's going on in the NYC OUIDAD salon-great to disaster 7/5/2009

I have been getting OUIDAD haircuts for 6 years now. I started in the NYC salon and my life changed the day I left. The method of carving and slicing was amazing and I left with long shiny curls that made me love my hair. The products were also amazing, I could not get enough of the clear control pomade. When I moved to Massachusetts I started going to OUIDAD certified salon I also and still love (Maria's Salon). I consider myself very proficient in the OUIDAD system. In early June 2009, I went back to NYC for a wedding and met with Alex. I had one length hair with a slight angle just in the front. I asked her to keep everything and to do the usual OUIDAD haircut as it had been 6 months since my last carving and slicing. She proceeded to give me the worst haircut of my life which has left a 37 year old mom of a 19 month old crying in the bathroom (haven't done that with my hair since I was 20). The end haircut is fuzzy (not frizzy) and in the sape of a lions mane. It's about as big as that too. I can scare people if I take it out of the 4 barretts I need to keep it down. None of their products work anymore. She put layers in my hair as short as 2 inches from my scalp but did not intertwine them even. The result a 2 length haircut one short ontop of one long. I'm not exaggerating. A disaster. I went to Maria's Salon in MA (certified in the OUIDAD method) and she was just as confused. The only thing she could do was to cut length off and try to blend in the layers. This helped a lot and have a good shape for the haircut but Alex did something to it that will have it be fuzzy until it grows out. I called and complained to Alex and tried to speak to OUIDAD herself twice and got Alex intervening both times. I will write a letter next and I have pictures. I can not imagine what I would have done if this was the first time in this salon. I would have been so confused by all the positive reviews and have thought something was wrong with me. I know how great a OUIDAD cut can be and I feel that something is going amiss and they really need to be aware before doing this to more people. Pros: Nothing right now Cons: Changed cutting method that used to work great more

Vincent is AMAZING! 5/5/2009

I've been to Ouidad a number of times but was never completely blown away by my cut until I met Vincent, the only male stylist who works there. I've seen him multiple times now and am always over joyed with the results. In all my life I've never had such a great haircut. I don't love the way they style my hair though. I prefer loose, messier curls. I always know I'll have to redo my hair once I leave the salon, but it's worth it! Curly hair is not easy! Pros: Best haircut I've ever had. Cons: Don't love the way they style. more

great products. Terrible cut. 4/15/2009

My hair was butchered. I have been going there for two years. The last cut I got was last year, and it was a MESS. The front of my hair was cut to three inches when dry. That back of my hair was long and cut into a sharp V shape. and the top of my hair was thinned out to such a degree that all it managed to do was stand up. A year later and I am still waiting for my hair to grow back. All the slicing left my hair very thin. Pros: products Cons: Cookie cutter styles, terrible cut more

Curly Girls Rejoice! 3/3/2009

I was about to book a brazilian straightening treatment and my friend convinced me to give a Ouidad cut a try before processing my hair. I am grateful I did! They were able to accomodate my requested date and not give me the ole "we can squeeze you in 4 weeks from now." The stylist Melissa took her time and asked what I wanted from my haircut. The girl who washed my hair was very sweet and talked about what would help to deep condition my hair (not a product push, just how to apply conditioner properly). Melissa really took her time looking at my hair and how it fell before starting the cut. She cut into it and was able to keep my request of leaving the length. She then styled it and showed me what she was doing and how much product she was using and it never looked better. Having always left a salon with straight hair, it was the first time I was really able to appreciate my hair curly. Loved the cut, style and stylist. Wish it was a tad more affordable but its NY and its specialty, and for how I felt when I left, well worth it! And there was no product push! Am confused by reviews that talk of a coldness- I thought they were professionals. When someone is holding a sharp object near my scalp, I don't need them asking about my latest hook up. I found the staff to be polite and very knowledgeable. I highly recommend to fellow curly haired sisters. Pros: cut, styling, knowledge of curly hair Cons: Price but comparable for upscale NY salons more
