Jamaican food in our neighborhood at last! 5/3/2007

First of all, how exciting is it to get a fine jamaican restaurant in the cambridge - belmont area? Pretty damn exciting if you ask me, because if i wanted some of that before - I would have to travel all the way to Dorchester, and it wasn't 1/4 as good as this. The service is great, the people are friendly, and treat you like old friends. Everything smells and tasted delish! We go there every week, now that i know this place exists. Pros: FOOD, DRINKS< ATMOSPHERE, VALUE, LOCATION, EVERYTHING! Cons: a little cold in the winter from the door - take it to go LOL more

Fabulous and Friendly Customer Service--Open Until 8 12/24/2006

I love the food! Even more, I love the friendly service which makes all the difference. Leon happily made my dish vegetarian with some vegan sausage, veggies, and coconut rice and peas complete with my favorite, fried plantains--it was as fresh as home cooked food. The place is cozy and so we chose to eat in. The rum cake wasn't vegan, but my Jamaican companion raved about it and said it was just like his Mom's. Heard the fish chowder soup of the day was also excellent, also the Escebeche. This is the best Jamaican food I've had in Boston. They're now open until 8, making it a great dinner spot. Pros: Fresh food, friendly service more

Wonderful Jamaican food, even for the first-timers 11/6/2006

Ortanique is everything a neighborhood restaurant should be - friendly, warm, delicious, easy and best of all very affordable. If this restaurant were in a busier location, you wouldn't be able to get in the door, I'm convinced of that. As a resident, I'm glad its still a well kept secret, though for Leon's sake, I'd like the word to spread a little more, ideally so he can offer more choices and seating. If you've never had Jamaican food, don't let the idea frighten you. I hadn't either but six months later, I've tried everything on the menu and haven't found an unsatisfactory item yet. Dining there twice a week is proof of that. All of the entrees are terrific and you MUST get the aromatic rice and peas, rather than opting for the safety of white rice. You'll be glad you did. more

Best Comfort Food! 8/6/2006

This cozy restaurant located in Cambridge's quaint Huron Village is a prime spot for Jamaican food! Most consider it for takeout, while there are a few dine-in tables as well. Regulars rave about their patties and curried chicken, both of which go well with their refreshing homemade Ginger Beer. Topped off with great side dishes and service, Ortanique is an ideal restaurant for those in search of the ultimate comfort food. more

The rice and peas are perfectly seasoned. The curried chicken is great as well as the stewed chicken. I LOVE there patties and HOMEMADE ginger beer! If you havent tried this spot yet get your behind up and go you will be very happy. It is a takeout spot, it has only a few seats. Pros: THE FOOD AND OWNERS more
