Once Upon A Child

I've shopped at many children's consignment shops and this is my favorite. Great selection and prices. They are pretty particular when I've tried to sell items to them but that's good when you are buying. They don't pay the most for items but again, that helps them have great prices. I think they have a new owner recently so hope they don't change it too much. By the way, best selection for bigger kids that I've ever found. Please keep it up! more

Once Upon a Child in Longmont has great prices, and a loyalty card program that is one of the best I've ever participated in. You get a card stamp for every $10 that you buy and bring in for trade. So if you bring in a load of clothes and they take $70 of trade in, you get $70 store credit AND seven stamps on your card. When your card is full, you get 20% off your next purchase, AND you get to use that purchase to get stamps on your next card. The shop has a small staff, and they can't afford to wait on you hand and foot. But if you're willing to be patient, you can get some of the best deals in children's clothes around. Also, their choosiness in accepting clothes means that the clothes you can buy are in good condition. I have never been disappointed with anything I've bought here. more

I took in a box full of baby clothes only to have most of them rejected because some were a little wrinkled. However, I bought several items from the store that day which were, you guessed it, wrinkled! Most items bought in ANY store are wrinkled, but that certainly doesn't stop the sale of even high-priced clothing. I also found that the re-sale items are over-priced. more

I called this store a couple of weeks ago to see if they were purchasing the size/sex/season of childrens' clothing that I had available. I was assured by the seller that they were indeed purchasing, needed spring/summer toddler clothing, and were paying in cash. I drove over there within 20 minutes of the call with a giant box of all brand name, freshly laundered, ironed, and neatly folded items. Thrilled to get the clothes out of our home without having to resort to my usual time consuming outlet of eBay, I was optimistic. I have purchased a few things in this store in the past and found the prices to be high for used non-branded clothing in fair to good condition. What a disappointing experience to say the least! The staff were unfriendly, audibly sighing about having to look through a box of clothes. They refused to do this while I was present and insisted that I leave for at least an hour. Reluctantly I did (I now wish I had stayed), and returned to be told that they would have no interest in purchasing 50% of the items. Apparently no one will buy Ralph Lauren, Janie and Jack, or Zutano brand clothing in the Longmont area. Then they told me that they would not give me cash or even a check. I was to receive store credit only. The items that they had refused were literally wadded into balls in the box- after I had spent hours ironing and folding the items into outfits. I requested everything be returned if they would not give me the cash as stated in their advertisements or on the phone. I am certain I did not get everything returned to me, as pieces from outfits are now missing. If this was an upscale children's resale shop I would have taken the store credit, but the vast majority of the brands there are from Target, Walmart, Kohls, etc. which is fine, except that I am not paying $5.50 for a faded, faintly stained Carters sunsuit when I can purchase a brand new one for about the same price. I also find it dishonest to advertise that you offer cash, tell prospective sellers over the phone and via internet (I receive their emails too) that you pay in cash, and then only after having the items in their possession will they tell you that they do NOT PAY CASH at all. Very glad now that I did not take a check from them after reading the previous review. Footnote: after having to re-prep all items due to the ""wadding"" at the store, I listed on Craigslist and sold everything for the price I asked and in cash! Apparently people in Longmont do like those brands! Who knew?! more

Be wary of selling your items here? - I recently sold a number of items to this store and received a check from the store. The check did not clear my account 3 times. I spoke to the store owner who asked me to bring in proper documentation of the check and the bank fees incurred, with these she stated she would pay me what was owed in cash. I presented what was asked of me to the store that afternoon where I was met with a very unprofessional, accusatory woman who would not give me the money owed to me unless I had the original check. I did not, only bank copies with NSF stamped on the check (the bank kept the original). She stated she would NOT help me solve this problem, telling me to return at yet another time to talk with the owner. She would not call the owner or my bank to verify details or help solve this problem...she asked me to leave the store which I refused to do until the money owed me due to their mistake was taken care of. Instead of bending over backwards to help a customer they 'wronged' in the first place, this woman called the police! The police were very helpful and helped me retrieve the money owed! Please, please BE WARY or do NOT shop at this store if only for how they treat customers they have caused a great inconvenience to in the first place! more
