Good, but Not Worth the Price. 4/23/2010

I was able to go to The New Yorker last evening. I ordered the filet mignon with gorgonzola-panko crust, broccolini, and mushroom jus mashed potatoes. I also had the house soup which was minestrone. I enjoyed the soup, but I did not think it was anything spectacular and would probably not order it again. The filet itself was average, but the panko crust was delicious. The mushroom potatoes were also good, but I had a taste of the smoked gouda potatoes and those were excellent! I also was able to try the salmon, but I honestly thought it tasted a little fishy and was a little tough. I'm sure at a restaurant like this they would be willing to cook another salmon filet, but you still take your chances. I ate with a larger group and at the end of dinner we all ordered our own desserts so I was able to taste many different dishes. The cheesecake was smooth, creamy and good, but I like the Cheesecake Factory cheesecake better. The homemade caramel is wonderful, the apple pie is very good, the crème brulee is good and so is the short cake. Mmm. Desserts here are great.\r \r My bill for two people included two entrees, a soup and one dessert and came to about $120. I was a bit disappointed in the food for that price, but I'm still glad I was able to go, although I can't say I will be back soon.\r \r I seriously think that the Gastronomy Inc. restaurants aren't as good as they used to be.\r Pros: Dessert, Food Cons: Parking, Location, Prices more

So sad it's gone... we'll miss you 9/9/2006

Bacci was one of our very favorite spots. Yes, the hostess(s) could be curt. The wait (even with reserves) was an adjustment. But the rest of the experience was always top notch. I have many good memories of a very nice glass of wine with an exquisite meal, and always always always, a very personable waiter. I hope that Ruths Chris will keep the stained glass windows. Goodbye Bacci, we'll miss you!!!!!! Pros: Good memories Cons: it's gone more

Favorite Mushroom Ravioli 3/9/2006

The Forrest Mushroom Ravioli is unrivaled. It is delicious, and I crave it fortnightly. The Flatbread is amazing as well, and I always enjoy the Spinach Salad. Baci is extremely trendy: make certain to make reservations in advance. The waiters are amazing, but the hostesses could use a little help. I have twice arrived right on-time for my reservations, and was unapologetically asked to wait for over 20 minutes. Pros: Mushroom Ravioli, Flatbread, Spinach Salad Cons: Hostesses more

very nice 2/3/2006

The place was warm and friendly. You couldn't go to the bar and have a drink while you waited for your reservations unless you had a membership. If you wanted a drink you will be drinking it in the waiting area. The place was quiet. I ate at a bar table and the service was great along with the food. The waitress was good but a little bossy. Pros: quiet, friendly Cons: parking more

Very nice! 10/14/2004

Date of visit: 10/13/2004 @ 12:30pm, lunch. I had the crostini with tomatoes for starters. It was nice and light. Next I had a green salad w/ a light viniagrette dressing. Fresh and colorful and didn't have any bitter greens which I think are nasty. The entree was the lasagna. It was flavorful, creamy, and meaty. I usually don't get lasagna when I visit restaurants but Baci's lasagna is very good. The portions were all hearty, and the price was very fair. Dessert was tirmisu`. It was delcious! Baci validates for parking in the structure immediately to the west of the restaurant which makes visiting Baci much more convenient. I met the owner of Gastronomy, Inc., John Williams. He deifinitely has a flair for archetecture as you'll see when you visit Baci. It's a very beautiful restaurant. Pros: atmosphere, quality of food, price more

Good experience 9/1/2004

We came to Baci's looking for a dinner venue for a large group/business dinner. I thought I had eaten here once before, but think I would have remembered such a lovely ambiance. From the revolving doors, the impressive entrance with cathedral like ceilings and beautiful hardwood elements, Baci's is pleasing to the eye. Service was attentive & friendly, but some food arrival was not sychronized very well. Food in general was tasty and well prepared. Lobster bisque was very good. Spinach salad was rustic and maybe a little too strong for my taste, but still good. Veal with lemon and capers was very good, but the Lobster special was not as tasty as I would have liked. Ravioli (house speciality) was also very good and tender. Dessert, like most of the Gastronomy restaurants was good - my favorite: Almond Raspberry torte. Nice light finish to a good meal. Pros: Food, Ambiance, Service more

A longtime favorite 4/8/2004

Always wonderful service. Very affordable ""Sera Bella"" early evening specials. Great and diverse menu. This isn't a typical local Italian menu, expect more varied choices than you're used to. I have had one average meal (which ended up being free) in more than 60 visits in the past 12 or so years, the rest have been fabulous. It tends to be noisy if there is a crowd. Parking is what you would expect in a downtown location. Pros: Great food, Diverse menu, Nice "boutique bar" Cons: , Can be a long wait more

once, but not again... 10/22/2003

came here with some friends for lunch. coming from ny we're not familiar with the utah laws about club memberships, so after much confusion we finally were seated on the patio and the waiter didn't charge us the membership fee. our waiter was very friendly. however, the wait for food and drinks was incredibly long. the other reviews were correct about the long wait. lunch extended for a few hours. this place was ok, but i would never go back. Pros: outdoor seating, friendly waiter Cons: loooonnnnggg wait, crowded more

smiley 8/13/2003

THIS WAS THE WORST RESTURANT, IF YOU CAN CALL IT THAT, THAT WE HAVE EVER EATEN AT! THE PASTA TASTED LIKE THEY JUST TOOK IT OUT OF WATER WITH NO SAUCE! SERVICE WAS AWEFUL! PLEASE DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY! WE COMPLAINED, NO SATISFACTION. WE PAID AND LEFT WITHOUT EATING AND WENT TO THE SPAGETTI FACTORY. THAT WAS A GREAT MEAL INCOMPARISON! THIS IS NOT ITALIAN FOOD! NOT EVEN CLOSE! WE GOT THE RECOMMENDATION OFF OF CITY SEARCH AND WE CAN'T BELIEVE THAT PEOPLE WOULD ACTUALLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. IT MUST BE THE OWNERS WRITING THE POSITIVE REVIEWS. PLEASE DON'T GO!! Pros: absolutely nothing! Cons: food is terrible!, service slow, workers bad attitude more

Over Rated 7/8/2003

Ever since I moved to Utah 3 years ago every one has been telling me I need to eat at Baci Trattoria. Went there for lunch. . . No good. Not that the food is incrediably bad, but the serivce was slow and impersonal. The place claims to be children friendly. I never saw a child's menu nor did I feel welcome with my children, especially when my daughter requested her juice to be in a different glass then the one served to her. While they may have great bruschetta and salads, ask your server how spicy other dishes are as many seem to be cooked in red pepper sauce or with red peppers. For the price, I don't think it is worth all the fuss. Of course, this experience may have been completely different had we had a different server. Pros: Brushetta, Ambiance, Selection Cons: Price, Service more

It's Sliding 5/17/2003

I've been to Baci's many times and have been quite pleased with the food and service. It is always so noisy that you can't hear yourself think. The last time we went the food had gone down considerably and I wondered if they had hired a new cook or something. The quality just wasn't there. They used to have wonderful seafood specials. more

I love this place 5/15/2003

I love this place. One of my favorite resturants. I have lived in Italy and France, and they could learn a few things from Baci about service, ambiance, and good food. Don't miss it. Pros: fun, beautiful, authenic more

TERRIBLE 2/2/2003

My experience at Baci was terrible from the moment I walked in. To start, no one was paying attention. The hostess seemed to ignore us for almost twenty minutes. Servers did the same. Then we sat at the counter and we didn't get served. When we finally asked for the manager he was rude to us, so we decided to leave. I wonder why anyone would recommend Baci to us, because I can't see why they have ANY business considering the way I was treated. Cons: slow, no service, rude more

GREAT PLACE TO IMPRESS 1/19/2003

BACI IS A GREAT PLACE TO ""DO LUNCH"". THE AMBIENCE IS VERY SPECIAL, AND THE SERVICE FRIENDLY. THE FOOD HAS BEEN BETTER, BUT WITH THE ATMOSPHERE AND A GOOD FRIEND, IT'S A MUST VISIT. more

Consistently good 1/12/2003

A frequenter of Baci, I have always had wonderful service here. The atmosphere is also pleasing. in my opinion, the food was best years ago, but it is still quite tasty and I love all the gastronomy restaraunts. It has impressed my out of town guests. Pros: welcome atmosphere, top notch service, great location Cons: parking more

let the good cooks go 12/18/2002

over the years i have been a loyal customer and a great fan of baci trattoria. i have a relative that works for the convention center and always refers out of towners to the restaurant. however it has come to my attention that in the last week or so there has been a drastic change in the promtness and also the flavor of the food on the evening dinners and appetizers. i understand from several of the employee past and present that the new chef has replaced some or one of the longtime employees with a less qualified and less experienced cook. perhaps gastronomy had better take a better look at exactly what is happening in their kitchen. keeping good employees also keeps the good customers coming in more

brunch at bacis 12/18/2002

As I once lived in SLC, a visit to bacis is a must. The brunch on sundays is or was, i don't know if it's still available, a very special one, tastes extraordinary... service and moreover the ambience of this place is one only seen in some restaurants around the world. An ambience I enjoy very much, thats why the baci gets the topten restaurant award by me... Pros: extraordinaryambience, very tasty food, nice audience Cons: parking possibilities more

Italian kisses 12/10/2002

Baci is my favorite restaurant. Great atmosphere, good service and best appetizers. Prices are average and it's romantic and fun. more

Baci - romantic 12/2/2002

I guess Baci is okay for mid-level Italian, but I can't imagine choosing the word ""romantic"" for any Gastronomy restaurant. They're fun and loud, but not romantic. Pros: fun Cons: loud more

Good food 11/15/2002

We love to go here when we are downtown. It is in an eclectic setting, that gives you something to look at wherever you sit. The food is great, service has never been better. We take all of our out of town guests here as well. If you go before 7pm, you can request their early bird special which they have stopped advertising on their menu, but still offer. more
