LOVE THEM 2/8/2013

I can't say enough of this facility, I love the vets and techs. Not everyone understands they are a hospital, someone is with your pet 24/7, next time take it to your local vet and at night if something goes wrong, your pet will he alone. I picked the hospital for the 24/7, I knew a vet and techs would be there with them during the night if a problem happened. My pet gets the best care, the vets talk with each other and pick brains and think outside the box. I pay for the service and it's excellent. more

VERY VERY EXPENSIVE 4/18/2012

Much too expensive and very unsatisfactory care for my pets. They are very focused on image and money, and little about the medicine they practice - and it shows. Their technicians need to go back to school - one suggested I get my dog's teeth cleaned, when I said she just had them cleaned she said, "Oh, that's OK - we're supposed to tell everyone that." I asked her where she got her degree from, she laughed, "I didn't go to school for this - they just hired me." One veterinarian told me my dog should only eat the prescription diet she recommended (and I could only buy at Newton Vet). I went to see an Internal Medicine Specialist for another problem and the Specialist told me "That's nonsense - any good-quality store-bought dog food is fine for most pets." My neighbor rushed her dog in, after it got hit by a car, the OWNER OF THE HOSPITAL handed the dying dog to a teenage assistant to "take into the back" while he TYPED UP AN ESTIMATE - How callous can you be? The dog died. 30 more

Great Facility 3/15/2012

The review from Mike P. is not accurate. I work at the Newton Veterinary Hospital and the prices listed by Mike P. are not correct. In addition, there is no building for sale that is owned by the hospital. The old building was located on the same property as the current facility and was taken down over 10 years ago. Please be careful when reading reviews on the internet! more

Expensive and Ineffective 11/13/2011

This vet is over priced and ineffective. They are hesitant to give you an estimate of the service prior to performing them and they go out of their way to gouge you every chance they get. I brought my dog in with a yeast infection in her ear. The first visit cost over $200 for a ear examine, cleaning, and medicine. The treatment did not work and they got me for another $200 during the follow up visit. Here is an example of their charges:\r \r 1. $60 for non-routine exam: This means they looked in her ears\r 2. $45 for testing the material in the ears: They put it under a microscope. They did this even for the second visit, knowing full well that it was yeast.\r 3. $40 for ear cleaning: This is a 5 minute (max) exercise involving putting surfactant in my dog's ear and cleaning it with a cotton ball.\r \r I even considered bringing my dog in for his annual, but when I asked for an estimate of how much it would cost they refused to give me an estimate. They said it varied, but woul more

Best 24hr vet!!! 6/1/2011

Took my dog Roxy here on the 29th it was a Sunday so thank god they were open. My dog slipped off the stairs & scraped her chin on the pavement outside. It wouldn?t stop bleeding so that?s why I initially brought her there. While we were waiting in the waiting room the receptionist noticed that Roxy?s foot was bleeding as well and called a technician out to clean her up. The lobby was full of people but they could see that she was in a lot of discomfort and wasted no time taking her to the back to start caring for her wounds. Turns out that Roxy had broken two of her nails and the vein was exposed. I may not have noticed if they weren?t so on the ball. I did wait a while to see the doc but I felt comfortable knowing that she was in their care in the hospital while I waited. Roxys wounds are looking much better even after just a few days. The staff & doctor were very professional & caring. I would definitely recommend this vet hospital more

Wonderful staff; saved my dog's life 4/20/2011

I'm writing to let you know what a wonderful staff you have! From the moment we walked in the door on 1/24/11 until our dog was discharged our experience with the staff was always positive. When we arrived 2 receptionists were friendly and quick to alert the medical staff to assess our dog's condition. Dr. Barnes was quick to diagnose our beloved black lab, Raider's condition - he had ingested rat poison! If it wasn't for Dr. Barnes' quick diagnosis and subsequent treatment, Raider would probably not be here today. I found out that one of your technicians sat in Raider's room most of the night comforting him - that meant the world to me. So, as you can see our experience at Newton Veterinary Hospital was overwhelmingly positive. From the moment we arrived until the day of dischage the professional, caring and friendly characteristics of the staff was clearly evident and no doubt contributed to saving our Raider! Thank you! Stay Away from Newton Veterinary Hospital 4/9/2011

Newton Veterinary Hospital and it's crew are Thieves! Bottom line, just stay away from them. I took my dog in for a yearly-routine visit and walked out over $500 lighter in my wallet. The real kicker is that they don't tell you what they are going to do or the associated costs. It's a real eye opener when you go to check out. They are over staffed, and making YOU and I pay for the ritzy building and the 3 or 4 folks standing around in the reception area. $500+ is their standard charge for extremely minimal service and with absolutely no explanation. There are plenty of truly caring and understanding Vets out there, Newton Veterinary Hospital Isn't One of Them! I'll never take any of my pets there again. more

Great vet!! 12/8/2010

I used their 24 services this past weekend and was very impressed. My 14 ½ year old Chow-Chow after a walk in the woods came home with an open gash on her front leg. When I go there the staff immediately took her to the back for treatment while I filled out paperwork in the lobby. Although she had to stay overnight to get stitched up I felt comfortable leaving her because she would be with the staff all night. Now she is feeling good, eating well, and back to her happy self. If it weren?t for them I don?t know what I would have done or where I would have gone. It also helped that everyone was so kind and helpful! I would strongly recommend them to anyone! more

Expensive but 24 Hours 11/8/2010

Was a client at Newton Vet for years until I realized how expensive they were. At one point they gave me the motivation to look elsewhere for vet services... just felt like they were more concerned with the invoice than much else. Finally looked around and found a more reasonable practice within a reasonable distance. They will take your money if you let them - especially emergency services. At one point I had a $3000 bill for a dog that had a hairline hip fracture that healed itself anyway. more

Wonderful Angels 8/16/2010

This facility should never stop providing 24/7 care. The folks were literally my saving grace over the last 6 months, when we?d have to bring our dog in usually in the middle of the night or on a weekend. They truly saved our lives! more

Great Vet! 6/15/2010

Yesterday evening my dog Bear has a strong allergic reaction to shots he received earlier in the day. His face was completely swollen shut and we were worried he might be having hard time breathing. The staff was wonderful when we pulled up to the side entrance. Immediately our nerves were calmed when we got word that it was due to the shots and that soon he would be feeling better. \r \r As a young couple without kids, this dog is literally our baby! All of the staff for took such good care of him. Especially the vet techs that went out of their way to make sure Bear was ok and answer all of our questions. Newton vet is definitely set apart from everyone else! Bear was in the best hands! more

The extra mile 4/19/2010

One of my dogs has to date undergone two surgeries to remove calcium oxcilate uroliths from her bladder. The first procedure was preformed by Dr. Bladek, and the second by Dr. Wyman. Dr. Wyman then supervised the follow up care of my dog after the last surgery. \r \r Dr Wyman not only treated Bella with a view to decrease the possibility of reoccurrence of the crystals returning in her bladder, together with the attendant uroliths, but also went the extra mile by taking the time to go through urine analysis laboratory procedures with me. The reason she took the time to educate me was because she knew that I planned on moving to Middlesex county NJ. Therefore I would be unable to have her care for Bella after that date, and that I intended to perform the necessary testing personally until such time as I found a suitably experienced veterinarian locally to take over Bella?s treatment. \r \r Dr. Wyman reviewed both the equipment and testing protocols so I could test Bella?s urine every more

So Compassionate 4/14/2010

I am writing this to thank all the staff of Newton Veterinary Hospital. I want to thank them for all their compassion and sympathy. Our wonderful dog Petey had to be put to sleep on Sunday. My husband and I would recommend your hospital to anyone. Our dog Pete and my husband and I were treated with the upmost respect. We just wanted to say thank you so much. Also if we do get another dog we will be bringing our new dog to your hospital to be cared for. Needless to say we were VERY impressed. more

RIP OFF 4/12/2010

took my 1 1/2 old dog to the vet because he stopped eating (this is a dog that gobbles food) this had gone on for 1 week -( stopped eating on Sun. took in on Fri) kept repeating to the vet that he had not eaten for a week and that was not like him,( he likes to eat sticks and rocks) they did blood work to rule out a number of things the vet was worried about his heart rate, which i kept telling them he hates the car and was very nervous... took x-ray of dogs stomach came back in room asked me again when the last time he ate was told them 1 week ago said there was a grey matter in his stomach but we are more worried about his heart you should go back to regular vet very worried about his heart should not wait we should have an ultra sound done right away on him ( but the people they call in to do ultra sound we all in a conference and no one could come in... go to Redbank... called back on Tuesday because dog was still not eating told me to go see a specialist... called Highland Vet in more

Traumatizing Experience 4/5/2010

The first time I brought my Rottweiler puppy there (the first time he was ever at the vet) he was nervous and everytime the Dr. went to touch him he would think he was playing and go to nip and lick his hand (nothing vicious in any way, he was 3 months old!). The Dr. got so frustrated he grabbed his neck, holding him in a very tight grip, and shook him. He made an awful noise that he has never made before, or has made since. This was an extremely traumatizing event for me, but everyone told me I should try another Dr. at Newton Vet, because they have many and some are highly recommended. I wrote a letter to the office explaining my experience (since no one was ever there to talk to) and I am yet to get a response. The next few routine visits were fine (with the exception of long waits and mediocre service), but I recently called to ask about a minor problem I was experiencing with my puppy, and the woman on the phone could not have been anymore rude. After everything that we've been th more

Response to Giles 3/8/2010

Dear Giles Family, I am writing to respond to your email, I would like to address your statements in the order in which they appeared in your writing. The appointment that you had at 7:00 a.m. was for surgery intake. It was not that your surgery was scheduled for that time. The doctor decides the order of surgeries in the morning based on the types of surgery, whether or not the patient had pre-operative bloodwork prior to that day, the results of the bloodwork and other factors. Dr. Wyman indicated that you were upset that your pet was scheduled to be last. She was scheduled last for 2 main reasons. First, she didn?t have pre-operative bloodwork performed prior to the day of surgery. We ask that all our patients do this to avoid delays. All other surgeries for that day had been brought in prior to Thursday to have the bloodwork done. Second, you gave Dr. Wyman a four page letter of requests the morning of surgery and were unable to stay to go over it with her due to your wor more

Very Bad Treatment for spay and a $533 bill 3/6/2010

This place is HORRIBLE. I had a 7am spay appointment. I called at 4pm , they said she wasn't even going into surgery yet. She didn't eat since 5pm the night before. 24 hours without food! "They had a busy day" She was treated poorly and they charged me $533 (including microchip and 2 vaccines) Included a test I didn't authorize, falsified the report. And were very nasty even the vet. She knew very little about anesthesia for herding breeds. I had to educate her! Well she is bleeding a little..Is that normal? $533 and it is not the cadillac treatment I paid for. They have too much office staff I guess they need all those CASHIERS at Newton\r \r \r PS my friend took her dog to Fredon Animal the same exact day 8:45 the dog was recovering at 1:30pm and they called her! And she paid $90 total more

Highly skilled doctor 1/29/2010

We must express gratitude to all at Newton Veterinary Hospital! On January 3rd, a Sunday during a very heavy snow squall, Dr. Russell diagnosed & set a dislocated hip & leg of our beloved Yorkshire Terrier, Pyppyn when our vet was closed. When our regular vet (Tranquility Vet, Dr. Hewitt) saw Pyppyn she complimented the skill of Dr. Russell's placement of the Ehmer splint. Pyppyn is now out the splint, doing well and in physical therapy! We highly recommend Newton Veterinary Hospital to everyone! more

Newtown Veterinary Hospital is my rock! 10/9/2009

I love Dr. Nani Cha! She has treated my GSD a few times as he has stomach issues as many shepherds do.. Also, he can be a bit difficult when handling by other people that are not family (he's a scaredy cat in a big boy body:) and he does great w/her - she is not intimidated by him whatsoever and the rest of the staff loves him which makes me feel great and they also seem unafraid of him and he responds well (unless proded and poked:). Beginning of 2009 my boy had pancreatis problem and had to be hospitalized for 3 days and they did an excellent job nursing him back to health - I appreciated their dedication and helping my baby get well!! We have used NVH for my parents dog as well when we first got him as a puppy and found out 3 days after we adopted him he had liquid in his lungs.. they saved him!!!! I remember asking the doctor that night if Max will survive and he didn't sugar-coat it, he basically said he doesn't know... but he got better and he is fine now and almost 3 yrs old! more

Sincere gratitude and thanks 3/3/2009

My wife and I can not express our sincere gratitude and thanks enough to the entire staff of Newton Veterinary Hospital for the time, effort, patience and care they provided to our beloved Schnauzer in his hour of need. It is great comfort to know that they have such capable hands who tirelessly attended to our dog. Because of their devotion and recommendation he was saved and is currently progressing to good health! more
