Until two weeks ago, I had never experienced how worrisome Bruxism could be, until I heard my brother in law gnashing his teeth every few minutes, which prompted me to learn more about why Bruxism occurs. I naturally turned to my most trusted dentist, Dr. Shirin Shahriar, who was kind enough to explain the symptoms, causes and treatment that my brother in law would require. Whenever my family or I have any dental problems, I straight away make it a point to consult Dr. Shirin Shahriar, who practices at The Newton Dental Group, based in Newton, MA and every time I have always had my expectations met. Armed with the knowledge given to me by Dr. Shahriar, I persuaded my brother in law to visit Dr. Shahriar. Bruxism she explained occurs when a person is dealing with anxiety or is overly stressed. It could also happen when somebody is suppressing anger or frustration. Other causes could emanate because the person happens to be an aggressive, competitive or hyperactive personality type or has abnormal alignment of upper and lower teeth (malocclusion), or perhaps other sleep related problems. Bruxism can occur in children too, due to pain from an earache or because of teething problems. Regardless of the cause, Bruxism should be treated or else it could lead to damaged teeth, facial pain, temporomandibular disorders or tension type of headaches. After I explained the symptoms, causes and treatments available to my brother in law, it motivated him to pay Dr. Shirin Shahriar a visit and is now one happy young man.
