DO NOT TAKE YOUR MUSTANG HERE FOR REPAIRS. This is coming from someone who has faithfully brought his car to Jim over the past 4 years. Only now do I realize how much I’ve been ripped off, having spent over $7k on repairs during that time period. Jim figured out early on that I don’t know anything about cars, and saw a blank check walking in the door each time I had a car problem. Here’s how this became PAINFULLY OBVIOUS: My car had been sputtering and dying constantly . . . it almost didn’t run. I figured it was a simple timing issue. When I dropped it off, I made a comment about having them check the brakes while they were at it as something felt like it was grinding. An hour later I get a call . . . “are you sitting down?” Jim tried to tell me that the rear end of my car was going to dump into the street at any moment, citing various replacements that needed to be made. He quoted over two thousand USD to repair. I was confused . . . this was completely unrelated to the reason why I brought my car in. I asked about the engine . . . how it was barely running . . . to which he said “the engine is running fine.” He must not have even driven it . . . it was barely running. When I asked him about this (the whole reason I brought it in), he kept on insisting that the rear end was dangerously close to falling apart, and even pretended that he would be nervous to let me take the car back without this repair being done. Once I insisted that I don’t have $2k to spend and just wanted my car to run right, Jim started singing a different tune, saying he would rebuilt the carburetor for $450. Diagnosing the problem on the fly. I asked how he knew . . . he had just mentioned it was running fine. He said, “what else could it be?” and started getting flustered at being called out on his OBVIOUS scam. He also started mentioning other random expensive repairs . . . “when was the last time you REPLACED YOUR GAS TANK?” I’m not making this up. There was a break in reality. He must have thought I would fall fo more

We took our Mustang across France! 4/25/2011

Just thought you'd like to know that I took Rita on a charity car rally across France to Monte Carlo. What a great drive it was, mostly on secondary roads, but occasionally on highways. There were 20 cars entered and we drove on average 250 miles a day. We had to figure out where to go and made about 5-6 stops each day to solve cryptic clues. Points were awarded based on the answers (and you had to arrive by a certain time or get penalised). My navigator was my 13 year old daughter. We were the only classic car (the rest were all new Porches and BMWs). We managed to finish 2nd! On the last day, we got to drive around the Grand Prix of Monaco circuit (as it was being set up for the Grand Prix race). Great fun. I'll email some photos once we get them developed. On the way home, we put the car on the train and took an overnight train to Paris. We spent a day touring up and down the Champs Elysee and by the Louvre and Notre Dame cathedral. Some interesting video clips for sure. Rita ran (for the most part) absolutely great, especially on the highway. She even managed to average 20 mpg.(imperial gallon which makes it 17m.p.g. American on a 4v carb.) She was certainly the most talked about car in the event (the French just love "le Mustang"). The only thing that went wrong happened after the engine was really warm (several hours of driving) - at idle (or with the foot off the accelerator at slow speeds) the engine would stall. Ian le Riche figures it was gas evaporating (from the engine heat) before it made it to the engine. At speed, there was never a problem. Now that I am back in Jersey, no problem at all (probably because the engine never really gets hot here). Is this something you've encountered before? Any suggested solutions? Would adding an electric fuel pump make any difference? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Also, Ian tells me that the front brake discs will need replacing in the next year or so. I thought I should enquire now in case they are difficult to find. more

I strongly recommend Mustangs Only 3/8/2011

I thought it might be interesting for you and your customers to see how well the Ivy 67 Mustang convertible is doing in Germany. I bought it from you in November 2009 and it took some time until the arrival in February 2010. First the Mustang had to wait for the right ship at LA harbor. Then she had to go all the way down from Los Angeles to Panama, sailing right thru the Panama Canal. On the other side she was loaded on another, bigger ship that brought her across the Atlantic Ocean to Amsterdam in The Netherlands. From there it was another short 750 miles trip to Munich in Germany, Ivy's new home town. As you guys did a such a great job on the restoration, the only things we had to adapt were the front lights for European standards and front disc brakes to use it safely on the German ""Autobahn"". As you may know, there is no speed limit and Ivy can really show all the power she has. As the summer season starts right now here in Europe I recently did a trip to the Munich airport, were she was the absolute eye catcher. Between all the new Mercedes, BMWs, Porsches and Audis the 1967 Mustang convertible was clearly the No 1 car for hundreds of travelers. Although in a hurry, all of them took the time for a short chat and deeply admired this impeccable classic Mustang. Of course I needed to test Ivy on the steep mountain roads in the Bavarian Alps. Again she was the shining star and climbed the mountains much better than a lot of the new Japanese cars around. I have attached a few pictures that everybody can see Ivy here in Germany. And to everybody who wants to own and drive a classic car, I can only and strongly recommend to see the Mustangs at Mustangs Only. You can't have more fun than driving one! more
