DO NOT TAKE YOUR MUSTANG HERE FOR REPAIRS. This is coming from someone who has faithfully brought his car to Jim over the past 4 years. Only now do I realize how much I’ve been ripped off, having spent over $7k on repairs during that time period. Jim figured out early on that I don’t know anything about cars, and saw a blank check walking in the door each time I had a car problem. Here’s how this became PAINFULLY OBVIOUS:
My car had been sputtering and dying constantly . . . it almost didn’t run. I figured it was a simple timing issue. When I dropped it off, I made a comment about having them check the brakes while they were at it as something felt like it was grinding. An hour later I get a call . . . “are you sitting down?” Jim tried to tell me that the rear end of my car was going to dump into the street at any moment, citing various replacements that needed to be made. He quoted over two thousand USD to repair. I was confused . . . this was completely unrelated to the reason why I brought my car in. I asked about the engine . . . how it was barely running . . . to which he said “the engine is running fine.” He must not have even driven it . . . it was barely running. When I asked him about this (the whole reason I brought it in), he kept on insisting that the rear end was dangerously close to falling apart, and even pretended that he would be nervous to let me take the car back without this repair being done. Once I insisted that I don’t have $2k to spend and just wanted my car to run right, Jim started singing a different tune, saying he would rebuilt the carburetor for $450. Diagnosing the problem on the fly. I asked how he knew . . . he had just mentioned it was running fine. He said, “what else could it be?” and started getting flustered at being called out on his OBVIOUS scam. He also started mentioning other random expensive repairs . . . “when was the last time you REPLACED YOUR GAS TANK?” I’m not making this up. There was a break in reality.
