where the grownups want to eat 5/3/2011

A friend and I were in Alexandria with our two ten-year-olds. It can be tough to find a place that has something to appeal to the kids where the grownups want to eat, but Murphy's fit the bill. The non-smoking areas are small but the one upstairs is almost smoke-free. more

This is a great bar that has good music 5/2/2011

This is a great bar that has good music on the weekends. It fills up pretty quickly but not too much so. While it's not the first place I'd think of to eat on King Street, it actually has pretty decent food for a bar/pub. Definitely THE place to have a beer when in Old Town. Their New Years Eve party is always a good time! more

price was better 4/22/2011

We visted old town twice in the last few months and initally we dined at o'connells irish pub after reading some reviews. Basic Fish and Chips was our dinner and at oconnells the portions were expensive, small and the "chips" were prefab (sysco) fries that were bland and limp. It could have been a kids meal in fact the only difference were two small pieces of fish instead of one. Then we tried Murphy's and the fish portions were larger very fresh and tasty, price was better and the chips were what you would expect fresh cut potato slices. The other sandwiches were also very good. And the beer is cheaper!! Murphy's has great atmosphere and live entertainment nightly hands down the better choice! more

The meals are priced reasonably 4/22/2011

I eat at Murphy's every time I come to Alexandria (2x/year since 2003). I've been here now since May of 2010 and i have never once had a bad meal or bad service at Murphy's. The pub has it's own friendly atmosphere and even though you have tourists here it has a hometown feel to it. People are very friendly and its the kind of place where, if you go, you should plan on having a good time if they have entertainment. The meals are priced reasonably and they bring your food out faster than most restaurants. If you go later in the week or on the weekend, try to get there before the entertainment starts, in order to get your meal and eat without feeling crowded. more

Trivia and Champagne Brunch 12/14/2005

Yes, Murphy's in Old Town is an Irish pub, and a pretty good one at that. But it's their Sunday champagne brunch and trivia nights that make it a really great place to hang out all week long. On Sunday, get a wonderful breakfast (omelettes, pancakes, traditional irish country breakfast, quiche, and more) and champagne for just $7.95 or $8.95! Champagne refills are just 50 cents (up from 25 cents awhile ago). In the winter, it's a really nice place to go with the wood fireplaces keeping the whole place cozy. Tuesdays are trivia night, where you and a team of friends can enjoy half-price burgers, pints of Guiness, and of course trivia! Service can be somewhat spotty, but it's all in all a great place! more
