I had high hopes of this place after searching the internet for a good sushi restaurant and saw that they won the award for "best sushi" in Raleigh. But after my visit, it was cl...

Great place for Sushi 7/27/2007

Just went here the other night for the first time and was really pleased. We sat at the bar and just got a few sushi rolls before a movie, but wound up having a great time! I can't wait to go back and really get to try a lot of things on their menu. (I laughed because they have a roll called the "screaming o"...and yes, it is as good as it sounds....are you kidding me???!!!) Wonderful food, great atmosphere....that's all i have to say. I will be back there next week! Pros: ambience, food, service Cons: parking more

You gotta check this place out!! 7/25/2007

This past weekend, some family and friends of mine decided to take a chance and check out Mura for some sushi. Not only was the food great, out server was the best that I have ever had. we sat in one of their private "tatami rooms" and Darrell was our server. This gentleman was not only knowledgeable, but actually had the courage to tell us when we made a bad selection from the menu and tell us what we should get with complete confidence. This also applied to the wine and sake lists. The man falt out knows his stuff. Their filet mignon, and lobster dish are among two of the best meals I have ever tasted in Raleigh, and the"Screaming O" roll and "Volcano Roll" were phenomenal. My advice to anyone out there, call and make a reservation for one of those rooms, because Darrell will give you one heck of an experience. Pros: Great Food, Better Service more

Mura Japanese Restaurant & Sushi Bar 7/19/2007

I would NOT recommend this restaurant at all! Even though Mura is fairly expensive, my husband and I chose to come here for dinner - we had a $50 coupon for this restaurant and decided to make use of it. (*Note - we have used coupons from this reputable restaurant website many, many times and have NEVER had a problem; every restaurant has accepted them and Mura is the ONLY one who would not - SEE BELOW!). Aside from this fact, our meal was just so-so; the sushi boat we ordered was good but lacking in variety and our waiter was terrible! He was not knowledgeable about the menu and appeared to have no experience. In an upscale restaurant like Mura, you would think that only experienced staff would be hired - not so in this case. However, we were polite and courteous throughout the meal and did not voice these thoughts to our waiter or management. Furthermore, upon receiving the bill for our meal and presenting our coupon, we were informed - first by the waiter and then the manager - that our coupon would NOT be honored. As mentioned above, we have used these coupons when dining out in the Triangle (and at places more expensive than Mura and for the same amount) and they've always been accepted - without question. The manager insisted/argued that Mura would not honor the coupon at all - period. We were shocked, disappointed and amazed at their lack of understanding and professionalism! The RIGHT thing to do would have been to graciously honor the coupon thereby providing excellent customer service and perhaps repeat business - I know we would have given them another chance). Instead, Mura chose to go the other route - they obviously are not concerned with MANY customers patronizing their establishment. Too bad because word-of-mouth is very important! We will NOT be back - EVER! Customer service is of utmost importance and you will not find it here. I give Mura ONE STAR :( Pros: Nice decorations and atmosphere Cons: Very poor customer service, inexperienced wait-staff more

Best Sushi Restaurant 7/14/2007

Great atmosphere, and LOVE the food (fresh). It has a good selection of non-sushi food, especially that my fiance does not eat raw fish. We both fell in love with the restaurant. more

Two bad experiences in a row! Terrible. 7/11/2007

I gave them the benefit of the doubt the last time but now..... I will never go back. There are two other great sushi restaurants in town and both have always had a friendly and knowledgable staff. The service was slow (very slow) and very short w/ our party when we asked questions about the menu. The variety of nigiri is lacking compared to other sushi restaurants in town as well. The one plus they have is location, however, I am now willing to drive farther for better variety and much better service. Very disappointing. Pros: Location, ambience Cons: Service, selection, price more

Terrible service. Will never return! 7/9/2007

Saturday I had the worst experience at Mura and will never go back. I called ahead at 10pm and asked if they could seat a party of 6 people. They confirmed yes, and would hold a table. We got there and they said we could not sit outside b/c the owner was taking our table. You would think the owner would want to accommodate a table of 6 people. Cons: terrible service more

Bad Experience 7/8/2007

My husband and I wanted to try Mura for the first time and we were not impressed. When I asked about how they did reservations on the phone the woman I spoke to was very rude. Our service was not great at all and we had to wait a long time for our drinks and food. Overall, it was a waste of time and money. I did not havfe a good experience here and I will never go back. more

Pretty good for Raleigh 6/22/2007

I don't know if I would say this is the best Sushi I've ever eaten, but it is among the best in Raleigh. The rolls were creative, and not overly seasoned. We sat on the patio and it was quite refreshing, but the indoor atmosphere seemed trendy without being stuffy. The server was knowledgeable, and attentive without being overly pushy. The only disappointment was that the crab was not "fresh" crab, it was colored to look like crab. Other than that, the seafood was fresh. So, the place isn't as good as the Sushi at Caesar's in Las Vegas, but as far as Raleigh goes, it's tops with me! Pros: service, atmosphere, location, creative rolls Cons: high priced, as is all sushi, all seafood not fresh more

best night out in raleigh... ever 5/31/2007

First of all, the first thing i noticed when i walked into Mura, was the friendly, beautiful, caring hostesses. They greeted me with kindness and respect as soon as I walked into the door. Second, the food was absolutely amazing. I had the "screaming o" and i was crazy about it! Their food is close to a perfect dinner. If you love sushi, you should definatley check this place out. Great hostesses, servers, managers, food more

impressed with probably the best 5/31/2007

Mura is my all time favorite place to dine, especially for sushi. I have tried almost all of their special rolls, and I have loved each one. The service is outstanding as well. The servers know exactly what they are doing, and each time that I dine they impress me more and more with their great service. The atmosphere is very unique. Whoever designed the restaurant really knew how to impress customers and make them feel comfortable while getting the feeling of the japenese culture. I rate Mura as having the best sushi in Raleigh. I have been to every sushi bar and have enjoyed Mura's exquisite food the best. If you choose to dine at Mura, try the Hard Rock roll or the Piano Roll for sushi. The fire cracker shrimp appetizer is the perfect way to start out your meal along with a martini. For dessert, try the keylime pie, its amazing! Gahlee all of this praising makes me want sushi, I think im going to Mura now! Pros: Food, service, atmosphere Cons: parking more

What happend here ? 5/31/2007

Ive been going here since they opened and i have seen a dramatic downfall in their service and food lately. I used to go in once a week the staff new me the manager was always aware of what i liked who i was and etc.. She used to take care of me now i dont know any of the people there and nobody seems to care about the quality of service. The food isnt great and the prices are something to laugh about who wants to wait an hour for a table when told wait was 20 min. I dont even ask to speak to the managers anymore when somenthing goes wrong b/c they are a joke !! They act as if its ok to give bad service since thier" busy" i wont be going back and i'll be sure to tell my friends who frequent to be weary of returning. If you do dine here dont expect much from the management or staff. Pros: decent food Cons: poor management now ... more

surprised AND delighted 5/29/2007

Mura in raleigh was a pleasant surprise. I moved to raleigh several months ago, and my overall impression of Raleigh is not that great. My dining experience here in Raleigh so far has been NOT good. But Mura was VERY good. Pros: GREAT FOOD, BEAUTIFUL DECOR, IMPECCABLE SERVICE Cons: long waits on weekend, limited parking more

Worst Place in Raleigh 5/28/2007

I cannot rate this restaurant because we were denied a table. Their closing time was at 10:00 PM and we arrived at 9:10 PM. The restaurant was far from busy and we were told they were no longer seating people. We are sushi lovers and we wanted to try this restaurant for our aniversary. We'll never find out if it's any good. We will not recommend this place to anybody just because of how unpleasent they were and how eager they were to shut us out. Bonefish closes at the same time; however, they were happy to seat us about 9:20 PM (and another couple came in after we did). Pros: ???? Cons: Service more

Very slow service!!!! 5/11/2007

My family decided to celebrate my daughter's birthday at Mura. This was our first and probably last time there. We needed to eat early since I work early hours (start at 3:00 a.m.) and arrived at 5:30. It was a Sunday and not crowded at all. We did not receive our food for an hour and 50 minutes! Although the food was good, it was not worthy of such a long wait. Almost 2 hours!!! That's unexcusable!!! Pros: Nice atmosphere Cons: slow, slow, slow service more

'beer' food at a 'champagne' price 4/22/2007

My gf and I had been to Mura once before and despite the long wait, had a good time at the bar and enjoyed our sushi. Pros: Salad dressing, ambience Cons: food (non sushi) more

Can you say FABULOUS? 4/15/2007

I have been a loyal customer to Mura for a while now and this is one of my favorite restaurants in the triangle. Food and service have been consistently stellar and they have some of the best specials running on Sunday-Wednesdays. I usually go on Tuesdays because they have $5 martinis and a buy one get one 1/2 price special on sushi rolls. EVERYTHING about this restaurant screams FABULOUS! Pros: Sushi, service, ambience, daily specials more

Great sushi, great service, and a great bar! 4/11/2007

Several of my friends and I recently visited the restaurant and it was one of the best times I've ever had. We sat at the bar and was very impressed with the martini and wine choices. The bartender was very entertaining and made us several drinks that were his own creations. We ended up staying there until close and had a blast. The food was great, best I've had in Raleigh and the service was fast and friendly. This is definately our new girls night spot!! Pros: great service Cons: parking more

High dollar mediocre sushi 4/7/2007

Went to Mura for the first time after I had heard it was the only place in the triangle with sushi comparable to Waraji. Mura is the kind of sushi place for people who do not normally eat sushi, as the rolls are practically all the same. I ordered sashimi style yet what I received was one sliver of fish on a rice roll wrapped in seaweed. I have never seen sashimi served with rice, and such tiny portions. Also, the freshness and the taste was not up to par. Our server was unable to answer our questions about sake, and simply recommended the two most expensive bottles. Pros: Ambience Cons: Sushi - quality, price, selection more

Wonderful customer service! 4/7/2007

I went to Mura for the first time last night, and had to immediately let the triangle know how wonderfrul this little place is. It's across from Gold's Gym at North Hills, and I stopped in to try some sushi after working out. What a beautiful place!!! I sat in the lounge area and was surprised to see how many wonderful things were on their menu. I just thought it was a little sushi joint, but boy was I wrong! This place has everything from sushi to Kobe beef...the waiter suggested the "O" Roll and Piano roll since all I wanted was a sushi rolls and it was to die for! What a great experience....I can't wait to go back there when I have more time to enjoy their menu.... Pros: friendly and menu knowledgable waitstaff Cons: parking more

Mura the most wonderful dining experience in Raleigh 4/5/2007

My God am I crazy about this place! Finally some actual authentic culture in our lovely city. How can you walk into Mura and not fall in love with the place? You would have to be a true hill billy or tasteless human being if you can overlook the attention to detail that the owners and staff have given this lovely restaurant. The blue bar had me in awh when I walked in, I gazed over and saw the bartenders having a great time and actually talking to their customers. It was a high class joint but with that, you know... "Mom and Pop" feeling. I loved it. Pros: Service, Food, Atmosphere, Ambiance, Sushi presentation, THEY HAVE REAL WASABI!! Cons: The only con I have is the presentation of the entrees. more
