Great Customer Service and Quality Workmanship 12/26/2008

I hired Mr. Handyman to create and install a wood cover for my circuit box panel and to install 4 doors in my newly finished basement. I had another company do the framing and drywall, which I regret now. I wish I had hired Mr. Handyman and had used them for the whole project. When I first called them I was more concerned about price (They're not the cheapest), not overall quality and value. What a mistake. The other company did mediocre work and showed up when they wanted to, costing me time off work and use of my vacation time.\r I later hired Mr. Handyman for the listed finish work. They were very professional, arrived when they said they would and did a wonderful job. They even fixed a few of the other companies ""boo-boos"". I will use Mr. Handyman again and have highly recommended them to my coworkers and friends. I learned shopping for the ""cheapest"" price isn't always the best in the long run. Mr. Handyman's estimate was only about $120 more than the other but I would have saved about 12 hours of vacation time and the quality would have been far superior! DO NOT sacrifice quality for a few dollars saved! Hire a professional from the start! A company that looks great and acts great shows that they really care about their reputation! Check out Mr. Handyman. Professional all the way! Learn from my mistake. Pros: Very Professional! Great Staff and very good quality of work. Cons: Doesn't come out to give free estimates but very efficient, experienced and quick more

Owner response to BenJames poor rating 9/23/2008

It is true that Mr. ""benjames"" hired our company to repair a leaky patio door. The door did not have ANY caulking around the exterior frame of the door (the leak was presumed to be from that oversight from the builder, 5 year old house). When we looked into his problem we found that the door had been leaking for so long that the bottom frame and support for the door was all rotted out and there was a nest of carpenter ants under the door track. We had permission from the ""Mrs."" to proceed to fix the rotted wood problem. We had over 10 hours of labor and materials in repairing the rotted frame and ridding the area of the insects. We sealed the door properly and thought we fixed the leak.\r \r When ""Mr"" saw the bill for the extensive wood repairs he blew his top (communication problem between Mr. and Mrs?) and was unreasonable when describing the extent of the repairs. He threatened that he worked for the Secret Service and would make our business miserable. When we were informed of the continuance of the leaking problem (we stated on the first trip that the leak could be from the weather-stripping on the door, a minor repair but it looked good at that time) we chose not to service this customer again. The Service Technicians at Mr. Handyman do not need this type of verbal abuse from an angry customer.\r \r As owner of the Mr. Handyman I did not state that he had purchased a ""cheap"" house, only that the builder must have used cheap labor to construct his home (noticed other building construction oversights while there). Please view the other testimonials from other customers (possibly on other forums like ServiceMagic) to form an opinion to use Mr. Handyman. Thank you for your consideration. Pros: Professional, quality workmanship more

Stay away 3/5/2008

We hired this company to fix a leak. They didn't fix the leak, which I understand, because that may take several efforts. However, they did additional damages to my house. When they returned to repair the damage they caused, they billed us an additional $200 for it. When I contacted the manager he was rude and unprofessional even going as far as to say that we bought a cheap house. He charged us over $800 for a job that didn't even fix the problem. I later hired a different company who fixed the leak for $120. Save your time and money, call someone else. Pros: charged me over $800 Cons: didn't fix my problem more
