Hands down worst experience I have ever had 3/29/2011

Over the years, I have eaten here a couple of times. Not sure if a new owner/management has taken over, but there is something seriously wrong with the way they conduct their business. I have a group of 5-10 people that I dine with on a regular basis, and we frequent a lot of Laguna Beach spots. 6 weeks ago, I dined here with a group of about 8 friends. About an hour after leaving, I realized I had left my sweater on the chair in the restaurant. I called immediately, but was told that it was "too busy" for the guy that answered to look for it, and that if I wanted to talk to someone I could call the following day. I found it interesting, actually insulting, that they weren't too busy to charge me for my meal and take my money, but when it came to providing any type of customer service, I wasn't of value to them. Long story short, over the course of the next 5 weeks, I left 5 different messages with the girl that answers the phone during the day (not sure of her name, but same girl every time) requesting a call from the manager. In addition, I sent an email through the company website complaining about the lack of response, and even showed up there during the day--to find they were closed. NOT ONE of my phone calls was returned, and the email I can assume was promptly deleted upon receipt, as I never received a response to that either. Tonight, I made the unfortunate mistake of returning with a group of friends, half of whom had never eaten there, for the half off Wednesday dinner. I was finally able to meet this elusive "manager" who told me he had never received my message and would look for my sweater. I had no hopes of it being there, and to be honest I am embarrassed for having given this place another chance--I guess I am a sucker for a half price menu. Sure enough, the service was a JOKE, the manager was a jerk, and after ordering two dishes and getting something completely different than I ordered, we left. Example, ordered sashimi salad, got seaweed salad, ordered eel & avocado handroll, got a spicy tuna handroll with a quail egg??? On my way out, I walked by the manager, let him know that after the way I was treated prior and the horrible service we as a group received, I would never be back. His response? "See ya." I have a business degree from USC, currently getting my MBA, and have a deep understanding of the importance of customer service. Customer retention is critical, especially in an economy like this. Not one of the people in my party will be back. There is an often heard statistic that a typical dissatisfied customer will tell eight to 10 people about his or her experience. One in five will tell 20 or more (and thanks to the internet that number grows exponentially). I grew up in OC, spent 10 years in LA, and not ONCE in my entire life have I felt compelled to spend the time or energy sharing a consumer experience. While these losers don't deserve my time or energy, I can't NOT let people know about my experience, in the hopes that they won't have to go through the same. There are so many amazing restaurants in Laguna, with awesome service and great food. After reading other reviews I am obviously not alone, this place is just not deserving of your time or money. more

Club Owners 2/28/2010

I have been in many clubs all over O.C. , these owners dont care about quality at all. I watched a Bar back at mosuns filter out liquor that was full of fruit fly's. Then put the liquor back in the bottle to serve to customers. more

BAD service from ditzy waitress 1/17/2010

So this ditzy blonde takes our order on a Sunday night and they have wonderful $6.00 sushi specials. During the meal, she forgets to bring our black code (delicious!) but the food was the best part; ambiance, zero Waitress totally ignores me and looks toward my guy to see if all is OK, which is the usual type of service you expect from air heads. My guy notices that y $6.00 Sunday night special went from $6.00 to double that, and she made a huge mistake... Was this the Alicia everyone complains about? I didn't want to know her name. Pros: Black cod, Moshun $6.00 special, salmon skin salad Cons: Ladies, make sure you take a guy there or you get no respect more

Over Rated 8/2/2009

My friend and I are from out of town and everyone told us to eat there, so naturally we did. Our waitress asked what we wanted as soon as we sat down and I had barely looked at the menu. She also gave us one menu between my friend and I, I did not understand why we couldn't have to separate menus. She brought us water but didn't take our order so we just ordered from the sushi chef who was much nicer then our waitress. She basically ignored us the rest of the night, she was busy taking shots with the guy next to us at the bar. She occasssionally reached over us to fill our waters with out sayign excuse me. We asked for our bill and gave her our cards and then as we were signing them she had forgotten she ran our card and snatched the bill booklet back. We only tipped her $2 on a $40 tab and gave the sushi chef $8 because he was the one who did all the work. I would probably not go back there unless it was happy hour. Also make sure Alicia or Alisha is not your waitress, she is HORRBILE! Pros: Fast service at the sushi bar, good rolls Cons: Overpriced, horrible waitress, cramped seating more

Worst Service- Especially ANGELA 10/1/2008

I went here last night with my friend and we put our names in for the dining room. Angela at the front said we'd have to wait at least 30 minutes for a table and instead suggested the overly-crowded, badly-lit sushi bar. We declined and said we'd have a drink at the bar until our table was ready. 10 minutes later, we saw her seat a couple in the DINING ROOM. I asked her why they were seated before us when they came in AFTER us. She said that they had put their name in earlier that evening and had come back, giving them priority. I did not believe her because she was flustered when explaining. I asked her when our table would be ready and she said a few minutes. I went back to the bar and within 5 minutes I saw her seat another group in the dining room! I didn't want to wait anymore so we decided to pay our bar bill and leave. When we were getting up from the bar, she came over and said our table was ready (after she seated 2 groups before us) and I told her thanks, but we're leaving. The smirk on her face was obvious and without saying a word or questioning why we were leaving, she slammed the menus back into their box and attended to the next couple that came up to ask for a table. Angela is a detriment to this restaurant and will surely lose business in the future. She has no idea what customer service is and her high-and-mighty attitude is not well-received by patrons. I won't ever come back to this restaurant. I love sushi and eat out every night of the week, but will take my business elsewhere. Cons: Bad service, run-down atmosphere, employees rude, gawking gross men more

MONDAY NIGHT SUSHI BUFFET... 3/18/2008

$20 buffet includes sushi and appetizers.. best crunchy role i've had. We sat at the sushi bar... the sushi chef was very nice and actually talked to us. Music was good... service was great too. I've never been on a weekend... but MONDAY is for sure the best day to go... oh yeah, don't order a bunch of sushi and not eat it... I think they charge you!! thats good, they don't like to waste food. Pros: sushi chef was cool Cons: parking, a little crowded. more

Avoid for birthdays 2/11/2008

We were very excited to go to Mosun for my friend's 27th Birthday last saturday night. We sat down at 8 with our party of 8 for what we had hoped would be the beginning of a great night. Not only were our food orders incorrect, our waiter rude and rarely seen...but with food still on our plates and while we were preparing to order more drinks, our waiter appeared to tell us that we had an hour and a half time limit at that table and would need to be leaving. Never mind the time during the night that we had waited on him, then he continued to tell us that the hostess and the person we made the reservations with should have informed us of this policy. Not only did he make no point of acknowledging my friends birthday (which we told him of right away) but then he continued to give us poor service and literally kick us out before our food was finished. We decided to stay at the club since we had already driven a long distance to eat at the restaurant. We continued to spend a large amount of money upstairs, which part of could have been his had he given us any type of service. I'm not sure of your policy or your hiring standards (we did not run into further service issues upstairs) but for a night that we had hoped would be great really started off on a negative start. This is one party of 8 that have no intentions of recommending Mosun to anyone or going there again. Overpriced for the service and food! Pros: DJ Cons: Everything else... more

WORST SERVICE EVER!!! 2/10/2008

I have been coming to Mosun/Club M in Laguna Beach, California for a little over 3 years now. Every time I went I made a reservation and as soon as I got there I was seated immediately. The drinks were amazing, service was fantastic, and the food was terrific. I have even had dinners there with parties up to 40 people. I have thrown birthday dinners for myself and for friends there but this past Saturday, Mosun really messed up. I made a reservation 2 weeks in advance and confirmed everything the day before. The reservation was for my best friend?s birthday dinner for a party of 25 at 9:00pm. When I made the reservation I told them where we wanted to sit and who we wanted to serve us. Half of our party was there on time and ready to be seated but the hostess said that the whole party had to be there for them to even clear the table. The table should have already been cleared and ready for our arrival!!! Anyways so myself along with the rest of the party arrived at 9:10 and they finally started cleaning the table off. We waited almost a half an hour for them to get rid of the people that were sitting there and to clear the table off before we were finally seated. The service was horrible, they were bringing out things we didn?t even order, our waitress(was not the one we requested)was rude, they wouldn?t even serve me drinks even though I?m 21 years of age now but they have been serving me drinks since the age of 19. Everything was just all wrong. Pros: Good music, Good sushi Cons: Parking, Service more

Average 6/29/2007

Trendy and hip, but bad service and the sushi is OK. more

Best price for sushi. Great hang out for young adult crowd. 2/8/2007

You can't beat the atmosphere, the service, and the price of this amazing food! $5 specials that will make you say, "Miso hungry for more!" Truly delicious. Cons: Crowded more

Not so Great...won't go back 11/11/2006

The club was standard, you get in cheap 10 bucks, but nothing special, with very average drinks (but not too small) in my case it took 15 minutes to get even one drink while waiting at the bar. There were a lot of people on the Sat. that i went but the crowd was mid-late twenties, the dj played older hip hop (nothing modern) the crowd was decent, not great looking and the music just ruined it. One dance floor, one bar, small area, too many people, bad music and a cover for girls. I won't be returning. Most all ages clubs have a better variety of music and people then this club. Didn't have a terrible experience per say, but it just wasn't exciting. Won't go back. Pros: drinks not bad... Cons: No Parking; Slow Service; Small Club more

Good thing it was Thrusday 7/26/2006

the sushi was average, but we were surprized to find out that on thrusdays their sushi is half price on a lot of their rolls. we were glad because if we had to pay full price, we would have been disappointed. people seem to like hanging out the bar, but beware you have to be apart of the beautiful people to get any service. overall everything from the food and service was average. probably won't go back unless i'm lazy to go any farther and really had a craving for sushi. Pros: cool decor Cons: average food and service more

no one there 4/10/2006

When you call their number it asks you to select #2 for reservations and specials AND NO ONE IS EVER THERE!!!!! You cannot get anyone on the phone EVER! Leave a message.......think NOT! more

Hip, Hot, and Happening 2/22/2006

The restaurant was crowded that night. It has a trendy modern look. The waitress was friendly and prompt. The sushi is creative but it's not your top notch traditional sushi place. As a group of 12 we could only sit at the table for 2 hours and they asked us to leave after the 2 hours were up, but after buying dinner we were all givin free enterance to the upstairs night club, and they brought the bill to us there, no big deal. The club is a little over the top with dancers in cages and over-priced drinks. But overall, if you're looking for a hip, hot, happening place, well this is it! Wear your expensive jeans and heeled shoes or you might feel a little out of place ... also plan on navigating a difficult parking situation! Hope this review helps, enjoy. more

Trendy scene with funky rolls - mediocre quality 11/20/2005

Very trendy spot - and packed on Wed/Thurs when they have discounts and locals night (I believe their web site keeps those up to date). Most of the people wear fancy jeans and "going out" tops (so if you're wearing sweatpants, like I was, you might feel a little underdressed). It is a cool-looking restaurant with a giant fishtank, waterfall, clubby music, and scantily-clad waitresses. A lot of variety among rolls, (some interesting and good tempura ones like the OC roll) but if you like to just eat the fish plain, I don't think the quality is as great as some other places around. But this is a good place to go if you want to feel like you're in LA and do some people-watching. Pros: local discounts!, good people watching, variety in rolls Cons: sometimes crowded, street parking, medium quality more

Watered Down Food and People 11/19/2005

This is about as OC as you can get. Ordered a Tanqueray tonic and got plenty of tonic water. Hostess was extremely rude. Stay away from this plastic playground. more
