Delicious, perfect for casual but classy meal with friends 11/11/2011

pretty yucky, we were disappointed 7/28/2011

We went to Monteaux's for my dad's birthday, it was his choice. I'm glad that his food was good, but the rest of our meals were downright yucky. I had the etoufee-it wasn't very good, and was REALLY spicy-I know it's cajun and all, but it was almost inedible, and I can handle some spice. My brother ordered their special- a mexican seafood soup. It WAS supposed to be spicy, but the broth tasted like canned tomato juice with little flavor or spice and the seafood was overwhelmingly fishy. Also, there was a huge pile of rice in his soup-that wasn't supposed to be there, weird. Finally, my husband, on the waitresses' recommendation ordered the BBQ Salmon. We assumed this meant the salmon would be 1. fresh 2. grilled. WRONG-it was a piece of salmon slathered in a load of nasty BBQ sauce. The fish was literally inedible, it was SO fishy--enough to make us think it was near-bad and they were trying to get rid of it before it spoiled (hence the waitress recommendation) So, we sent it back, and my husband ordered meatloaf instead. It took them quite awhile to bring it out, and everyone was already done eating-this is where it gets even worse-his meatloaf was luke warm and not cooked all the way in the middle, and the gravy sauce on top was gross tasting. I'm sorry, maybe it was an off-night for Monteaux's, but the low quality food (and frankly, the service was lacking as well-it took FOREVER to get everything-even our water) I would not go back-ever, not for the food, not for the service and not at these prices. Yucky. more

Bad Changes 8/22/2009

I use to frequent this restaurant quite often. That is not the case anymore. The last couple of times I have gone the food quality has gone down hill. They changed the menu and I was excited to see and try the new things. They were tasteless. So the last time I ate here I ordered one of the original items thinking it would be the same as it was. Boy was I wrong, it was very bland. more

Good Beaverton Happy Hour 7/15/2009

This is a good stop for happy hour with average drink prices (albeit on some very good beer) but excellent food prices and very good selections. The location in a strip mall is less than exceptional, but the interior is quite nice and it is apparent that the owner(s) pay close attention to detail. I prefer dining downtown, however this is one of my favorite places for staying in Beaverton. Pros: happy hour Cons: location in strip mall more

Just average food for an upsce price!" 3/5/2009

unlike the other reviewers, we were not overjoyed with the high prices and lack of quality food. Thankfully they had Passport and other discounted programs going through 2008, unfortunately, they did not keep any of these important programs so we doubt it would be worth it to try this place again in this economy more

Amazing Food and Great Prices 11/17/2008

This was an amazing find. Pros: Great Food, Amazing Happy Hour more

Warm, inviting but missing some things... 10/27/2008

My wife and I enjoy good food and even though we live in the area we tend to find ourselves driving into Portland to have good food from locally owned restaurants (we really try to support only those places). So that tells you how hard it is to a place close to home. Pros: Food, Wine pairing with specials, ambience Cons: expensive beers, boring servers more

Thank you for your efforts to keep prices reasonable 9/22/2008

I am a consistent diner-outer and visited Monteaux for the first time on Saturday. I was pleased to find a neighborhood favorite just down the road. The ambience was a pleasant surprise! We were seated by a friendly fellow and we ordered burgers which were very nicely priced and made to order (I like a burger on the pink side). While I was not in the mood for an alcoholic beverage I noticed some intriguing selections on the menu, for next time. It did not escape my notice that the soda my companion ordered was priced much more reasonably than many other restaurants in the area ($1.69, I believe?). If I had one criticism, it would be that my waitress (a little on the shy side) noticed that we ready to pay and could not excuse herself from a long conversation at another table to take our payment. Thanks for the good meal, we'll be back! Pros: Good Ambience, Good Food Cons: No One Said Goodbye When I Left. more

Great ambiance, great food 9/8/2008

How much my husband and I think of Monteaux?s might be measured by the fact that we chose to go there for dinner on our tenth wedding anniversary. Sure, it?s just a small, neighborhood pub, but that?s what we love about it. It reminds me a little of my dad?s pub when I was growing up ? dad and the pub are gone now, but I always remember both fondly when we walk over to Monteaux?s. more

One of the best Happy Hours 8/19/2008

We have only been for Happy Hour.....5 times...its 25% off everything, they don't limit what. The burgers are VERY good, and tasty. We have found that the service is pretty good, our drinks are kept up to par, and they make sure your happy. They have a different appetizer, entree and dessert feature every month based on the country of the month. The desserts are very yummy too, oh, you can get perogis as an appetizer. My ONLY complaint is that if you want to swap fries for a salad, it is now $1.50 to do so, I have yet to find any other place that does this, I firmly believe that you should not have to shell out extra for a salad to go with your burger. Other than that, I highly recommend them, we will keep going. Pros: Happy Hour, Food, Service Cons: Salad Swap/Substitute Charge more

I will be becoming a regular here! 7/27/2008

I have heard about Monteaux's for years now and even used to work at a nearby hotel that recommended it, but I went there for the first time this weekend. The outside tables looked great, but they were full so we ate inside. The atmosphere is nice, the staff was very friendly and attentive, and the food was great. We both had pasta dishes (my husband had the creole chicken fettucini - excellent! and I had the wild mushroom ravioli - very good although could use just a bit of creaminess to balance out the drier, earthier flavors). We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and plan on adding this restaurant to our list of regular places to go out to dinner. I highly recommend it! Pros: good food, good service, nice atmosphere Cons: none! more

Best Casual Dining in the Westside 4/9/2008

Downtown Portland offers many fine dining choices, but out in the Westside, the pickings are pretty slim. MPH is a breath of fresh air when you don't feel like the hassle of going downtown, and you don't feel like putting a deep dent into your wallet at Hall St Bar & Grill (also a fine Westside dining choice, but quite a bit more expensive than MPH). Pros: Convenient, good food and drink selection, attentive service, moderate prices more

One of our favorites 2/13/2008

We have been going here since it first opened. A few years back we stopped because of poor service (five in a row to be exact). When it showed up on our Passport card, we decided to try it again last year, and it has become a weekly place for us. We like several things on the regular menu, but also look forward to the monthly specials. Since trying this place again, we have received consistently great service. The staff is very knowledgeable about menu items and the wine list. It is a great place to go out to dinner and also caters to kids well. more

Awesome Spot for Good Eats 9/17/2007

We have been to Monteaux's several times and we have never had a bad experience. I have never written a comment about them, and now feel guilty. You need to try this place. The food is amazingly good with the best Chicken Saltamboca anywhere and really fresh fish and chips. My dad loves the burgers and the monthly specials have been great, really inventive. We have often commented on how good the service is and how they always get us right to a table. Keep up the good work, and we'll be back! Pros: Consistently good food with inventive menu choices, fair prices, great service more

Excellent food! 8/25/2007

I found this place on citysearch and could not be happier with my find! This place has a great ambiance and a great happy hour! Their regular menu is great as well (I LOVE the fish and chips!) always prompt seating, always great food and service! Pros: Everything Cons: Nothing more

Extremely attentive, exceptional, devoted owners who truly care about their business and most importantly their customers! 7/9/2007

I wrote a review back on 6/11/07 under portland27 regarding the service I received that I felt was unsatisfactory. I have since spoke with the owner Larry and he has convinced me to give this restaurant another try simply with how he handled my situation. He listened to what I had to say and was very apologetic. After investigating my claims he came back to me with legitimate reasons as to why I might have experienced what I did. He did not try to excuse anything away & he remained apologetic. The waitress also had a good explanation as to why the service we received may have been a little off that day. Though I experienced 2 separate occasions of poor service I am satisfied with the explanations that were given and the owner's sincerity in handling the complaint. He made it clear through his actions that he strives for better customer service by taking my complaints & addressing them as well as taking steps to improve in areas that are needed. It was also made very clear that I was a valued customer and and that is exactly how I have walked away feeling. Larry and Sal went ABOVE AND BEYOND what they needed to do to correct the situation and I am very appreciative of that. I was truly amazed at how well I was treated with my complaint and the lengths they both went to to make me feel like a valued customer. Thank you Larry and Sal. They are both in this business for a reason and that is because they know exactly what it means to be in the service industry and that is why they have been around for some time. I will not only return to their restaurant but I will recommend them to others as well. Any restaurant that handles their customers in the way they do deserves my business and recommendations. It is so refreshing to deal with a business that doesn't send your complaint on to corporate to get lost in the pile. Caring involved owners never gets old and is a wonderful personal touch. I just can't say enough. Keep up the good work. Monteaux has my vote all the way! more
