Mexican Fiesta 4/6/2009

Great food; however, there's too long a wait after food is ordered, and food is often lukewarm. It may be the fault of the waitress/waiter who may let it sit too long on the counter. I haven't been there in about 6 months, so hopefully things have changed. In any event, I rank Mexican Fiesta right up there (3rd) behind Xochimilco and Mexican Village. Pros: Great food Cons: Long wait for food which is often lukewarm. more

The Best! 3/9/2009

I have been going to this restaurant for more then 15 years now; it's my favorite mexican restaurant by far! The decor is warm and inviting, food & salsa are fantastic, even on busy nights the wait is never very long and food comes out much quicker then expected. Super yummy! Pros: Great Food, Great Price, Great Service, Fun Atmosphere Cons: Parking is cramped more

Best Mexican Cuisine in Michigan 11/3/2008

Everyone from the detroit area knows Mexican Fiesta, but if you're not from the area..........\r Great food, Phenominal prices, and good fast service.\r Fiesta is good for a night out with the guys or a first date. It's very versatile.\r The food is a little greasy, depending on what you get, but I've never gotten a bad meal from Fiesta, and I've been going there for over 20 years.\r P.S. - Call ahead on Friday and Saturday nights, it's always packed then. Pros: Food, Prices, margaritas Cons: Foods kinda heavy, but it's Mexican so you should expect that. more

Awesome chicken and cheese enchiladas - enough for two people! 8/2/2008

I have this reviewed on my blogger blog. I love this place, I go all the time, usually to the Canton location.\r \r This is easily my favorite mexican restaurant in the burbs. I have been going here since I was small and so I know the menu well. I will be honest in that I usually get the same exact thing in here as I know it is the best.\r \r James and my favorite meal in here is the Chicken and Cheese Enchiladas. The corn tortillas are dipped in an Anaheim pepper sauce and are stuffed with white and dark meat chicken that is so very tasty. The enchiladas are covered in a delicious white cheese and are so delicious. You can get three for 9.50 and split them with a friend (or husband) or take half home and have a great second meal that reheats like a dream. They come with your choice of two sides, either cole slaw, refried beans or spanish rice. You can't go wrong with any of them.\r \r My parents are hooked on the Botana here, a deluxe nacho type dish with refried beans, mexican sausage, the incredible white cheese and all manners of veggies and sauce. It is quite tasty but wow so filling. They can split a mini one. If they do not get this my father usually gets Beef and Cheese Enchiladas while my mom orders a Chicken Chimichanga. When they do this they too have a second meal after.\r \r Again I can actually review alcohol here as I have had it. The margaritas are tasty and big. The jumbo is happy enough but they also have deals on half liters and liters which was most appreciated by my former coworkers. Its definitely reasonable in my book. You can get a pitcher of Sangria for 8.00 and my parents are big fans of that option. Beer and mixed drinks are reasonable and they even have ice cream drinks, so fun!\r \r We come here at least once a month and are never disappointed. One big tip is to ask for hot chips to go with your salsa, guacamole and/or queso. They charge fifty cents but it is a world of difference, trust me. Everything else is a bargain at any rate. Pros: Huge portions, fresh food, cheap drinks and consistency Cons: Long waits during peak hours, desserts nothing special more

I seriously can't believe people crying about paying for hot chips! The food there is superb! 6/4/2008

I've lived near this place all of my life and I still say it's the BEST Mexican restaurant in Wayne County, yes, I said County.\r \r I've been to plenty of other Mexican restaurants for comparison too. I go to school in Detroit so we've frequented Mexican Town, I've been in San Antonio, Texas' Mexican restaurants, and even MEXICO! \r \r This IS authentic Mexican food. I don't know why people are going to cry about $1.50 for hot chips and salsa. You aren't paying to just ""get them heated"" you're paying for the tortillas that they use to make them, and the home-made salsa. Tomatoes aren't cheap people! Also, I wouldn't say that it's ""watered down tomato paste!"" It is NATURAL salsa that's fresh. Some people prefer chunky, some people prefer hot, some people prefer w/o chunks. I find that their salsa is refreshing and doesn't leave one with nasty smelling garlic 'n parsley breath! \r \r Their beans and rice are sooooo flavorful! \r \r I don't think they're expensive at all. Their prices are very reasonable and they give you a TON of food. Other places that I've been to were more expensive with smaller portions.\r \r BTW they make FRESH BREWED iced tea. You should try it. It's not the nasty NESTEA fountain junk. \r \r The waitresses have always been friendly to us.\r \r Yes, people ARE human and sometimes forget that you asked for extra sour cream, straws, etc. I'm sure it's not easy trying to remember 10 different people's requests when you're serving multiple tables. So keep that in mind and stop complaining. Pros: Price, Portions, Service, Cleanliness more

THE WOREST SERVICE EVER 3/2/2008

REAL BAD SERVICE, WAITED WAY TO LONG FOR FOOD AND SERVER DID NOT SERVE ALL THE FOOD AT THE SAME TIME HALF ATE WHILE THE OTHER HALF WAITED FOR THERE FOOD AROUND TEN MINUTES ,SERVER WAS NOT COMING AROUND AND ALWAYS FORGOT TO BRING SOMETHING WITH HER ALL THE TIME FOR EXAMPLE SHE BROUGHT THREE PITCHERS OF COKE AND CUPS OF ICE AND NO STRAWS WE WAITED AT LEAST 15 MINUTES FOR STRAWS AND WHEN FOOD ARRIVED IT WAS ALREADY COLD AND NASTY AND TOP IT ALL OFF SHE ADD HER TIP ON OUR BILLAND DIDNT EVEN TELL ME SHE DID , THAT WAS THE FIRST TIME I EVER SEEN THAT DONE THERE.AND SHE DIDNT DO ANYTHING BUT BE SLOW DID NOT SERVE FOOD ALL AT ONCE FORGOT ALOT OF THINGS THIS WAS THE WORST SERVICE I HAVE EVER HAD AT A RESTAURANT FOR SPENDING THAT KIND OF MONEY THERE IT SURE WASNT WORTH IT. I WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN THATS FOR SURE. more

best Mexican food this side of Texas 1/30/2008

After being in Florida since 1982 I returned to Mexican Fiesta for the first time in decades. My family has always considered this to be ""The Jewel"" of the trips home and I couldn't imagine it was as good as they still said it was. The food was AWESOME, the cheese enchiladas were amazing, the tacos were a little greasy but that just gave then a very authentic flavor and texture not unlike the Mexican food I enjoyed in Brownsville Texas just north of the U.S./Mexican border.\r \r I read other reviews on CitySearch before I went and was a little concerned but let me tell you, the hot chips are not an extra charge and even though coleslaw sounds foreign to a Mexican Restaurant it is in fact THE BEST COLE SLAW I ever ate and it compliments the rest of the fare nicely.\r \r The service was fast, EXTREMELY friendly, and the facility was comfortably clean. So ignore what the nay sayer?s may say, if you want simple, authentic Mexican food that is served in large portions with exceptional flavor then make this your dinner destination tonight. Pros: Great food, large portions Cons: always busy so parking is tight more

best mexican food.....friendly service always! 1/27/2008

My husband and I grew up with this place as our mexican resturant and now that we live out in livingston county we are yet to find mexican food we like! We drive miles to there highland location just to get this food. my husband is on his way there as I write this review! the hot chips are to die for and the rest of the food speaks for itself. dont miss out try this place! Pros: great food, friendly service! Cons: not one in fowlerville more

Best food, service and prices 12/13/2007

I grew up going to Mexican Fiesta and although the building has been there for over 45 years, it is very clean! Customers complain about paying for hot chips, unlike restaurants downtown, Mexican Fiesta does not re-use their chips. They pay for the tortillas and pay people to make them so if $1.50 is too much to pay for an appeitizer, then people need to stay home. It has american and mexican food to offer and has always been accomadating to my children and myself. I would recommend this place to everyone and will continue to give them my business. It has been open for 45 years for a reason! Pros: Prices, atmosphere more

Mexican Fiesta is our favorite restaurant 11/9/2007

My family loves this place, we must eat here every weekend. I don't care if I have to pay for hot chips, they are so good, it's worth the money. My kids always want to go here, my son has some food allergies and Christina always makes sure that we find something for him. I would recommend this restaurant over any other mexican food around. Great food and great service. more

A place I crave! 11/8/2007

Really great mexican food 9/28/2007

I too am surprised anyone can say they didn't like it. Most Mexican places are a bit less clean than your traditiional restaraunt, but you look a bit past that. They have the BEST Salsa of anywhere, get the hots chips, you won't be disappointed. I love the Combo, 2 Tacos, Tostada, Cheese Enchilada, swap the Tomalie for Been&Cheese Burrito add some jalapeno's, a huge meal. Also, they have the best Spanish Rice of anywhere I've had. Compared to many other Detroit Mexican places, this is tops. Pros: Great Food, kids age 2-4 loved it Cons: Parking is a pain more

Poor 8/21/2007

I am sorry that I went here. First it is a dirty restaurant, everything about it is dirty tables, floor, silverware. It took forever to be served. The mexican food is terrible.I can get better taco's from Taco Bell. These were lukewarm and tasted like they had been warmed up in the micowave. Someone who came with me got the fish and chips and they said it tasted very good, much better than my mexican meal. Save your money and go someplace else for better mexican food. Pros: Has a good varity of food that is not mexican Cons: Dirty restaurant, lukewarm and poor tasting mexican food. more

GREAT FOOD, GREAT SERVICE!!!!! 6/9/2007

I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT SOMEONE WOULD GIVE THIS PLACE A BAD REVIEW! THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE RESTAURANTS. I WILL ADMIT THAT I HAD TO GET USE TO PAYING FOR THE CHIPS AND I DO HATE THE PARKING OR SHOULD I SAY LACK OF, BUT OTHER THAN THAT THE FOOD IS GREAT, MY FAVORITE THING IS THE MEXICAN SANDWICH W/ PORK & CHEESE ALL OVER IT. ALSO I LOVE THE COLE SLAW. I ATE HERE TWICE A WEEK WHILE I WAS PREGNANT AND EVEN HAD MY BABY SHOWER IN THEIR BACK ROOM, OUR SERVER WAS GREAT, SHE EVEN HELPED US DECORATE. BELEIVE ME...I'VE TRIED A LOT OF MEXICAN PLACES IN THE AREA AND THIS IS THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pros: GREAT FOOD, GREAT SERVICE, FAST CARRY OUT Cons: PARKING, CLOSE TO EARLY more

Great Mexican food 5/3/2007

Like some of the others, I'm surprised with the negative reviews. This place packs people in all the time, they have great food and service. I've been going their for about 25 years. Pros: Great food Cons: You might have to wait for a table, very busy place on the weekends more

Worst Food and Service in Detroit - Hands Down! 4/19/2007

Just got back from this place. Started out waiting for chips and drinks - took forever! Then the 'trick' question, ""do you want warm chips?"" - which means ""do you want to pay for chips?"" What Mexican restaurant doesn't give chips out? Rediculous. The the waitress asks leading questions and unbeknowngst to us, nickel and dimed us for cheese and sour cream. Then we get the bill and see that she charged us dinner prices instead of lunch prices. The best part was paying the bill. when we asked about the extra charges, the guy behind the counter says in a snippy tone ""well if you would have looked at the menu, you would have known!"" - unbelievable. Even better, I think the snip at the counter was actually a manager or the owner.... nice. \r \r Almost should have known... on the way into the place I saw a sign that proudly hangs over their counter that reads ""The bank doesn't make tacos - and we don't cash checks!!"" - kind of sums it up right there.\r \r So besides the extra greasy food and poor service, this would be great place to eat! Or maybe I will just go to Taco Bell next time. Pros: Nothing Cons: Everything more

best drink in town at good prices 2/25/2007

Mexican fiesta is a great place. I have been coming here and sitting at the bar for years. They have the best top shelf margaritas i ever had and i have been to five different cities in mexico. They use 1800 tequila, cointreau and grand marnier....a good amount too...for only 7.75. At applebees they are probably 12.00 with half the liquor. The two other drinks that are untopable are their long islands and spanish coffees that they light on fire. Also very inexpensive. The staff is great. They are down to earth people who will do whatever they can to please you. The bartenders are great. If it isn't extremely busy they will serve a full menu at the bar. Scotty and Miguel are my favorite and i recommend them to make the drinks i listed...Oh forgot about the food...Its Great! Fajitas are my fav. Pros: 6 different 12 oz draft beers for a 1.00 all day all night Cons: Including BLUE MOON and killians, dos equis, labatt, bud light, miller lite. more

Don't waste your time or money. 1/5/2007

This restaurant is a poor excuse for mexican food. First impression walking in is that it is dirty. I should have turned around and made this my last, but I am often too critical according to my husband. My final impression is that this place is filthy! We had to sit at the bar because the locals wait indefinently it seems for a table. The bartender that served us was smoking cigarettes behind the bar. He never washed his hands before serving us. Furthermore, he finished off the left over drinks that he was mixing. I have to wonder if the owners are paying off people, because this place doesn't appear to have ever been seen by a health inspector or a member of liquour review board. The food. Disgraceful. With Mexican Town just about 15 minutes down the freeway, it would have been a smarter trip. The salsa (somewhat chunky) is served in containers that maple syrup is served in. You can barely get anything out. We ordered a combination plate and enchilada dinner. Everything was dry! The tamale didn't even resemble one, It looked like it was scraped off of someone else's plate. We had to ask for clean silverware (dirty silverware was rolled up in our napkins). Oh, and there is a charge for chips & salsa at this place. You are not told about this when ordering. I have never been to a mexican restaurant and been charged for chips & salsa. It's not even worth it. I would highly discourage anyone from trying this place. Del Taco across the street would have been better. Pros: Large, and although many people were at the door, you can probably get seated quickly. Cons: Dirty, poor food, bad service. more
