One of My Favorite Restaurants 12/23/2006

The bad reviews about this place below remind me of the time I took my grandma out to dinner here. She had never been to Mexican Fiesta before and liked Mexican food, but said she hated it after we went. She looked at the menu, asked about one of the entres, and then decided on stir fry. When she got her food she took a bite and was disgusted. I asked her what was wrong and she said it didn't taste like stir fry. I told her they didn't make oriental food, the stir fry was Mexican. She didn't expect authentic Mexican food. When the waitress came by to ask how our food was, she let her know that she was very displeased. The waitress tried to recommend another dish, but my grandma was rude after tasting the stir fry. The waitress no longer went out of her way to help, and I don't blame her. I think the food here is excellent and I've been here probably 25 times. I've never seen the staff acting rude in any way, and my order was never wrong. The people who say the staff was rude must have been very nasty in the first place. Pros: excellent food and service, good quality Cons: busy on weekends, sometimes you have to park down the street more

I CAN'T BELIEVE ALL THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS 9/12/2006

I'm a little surprised at all of the negative reviews of this restaurant. I must admit I have not been there in about 9 months, but I used to go quite often and always loved their beef and cheese enchiladas and cole slaw. I never seemed to have any problems with the waitstaff\r that I can recall. I think their prices are reasonable. Now that I'm thinking about it while\r I'm hungry, I think I'll go tomorrow. Pros: great prices, great enchiladas and great cole slaw Cons: not to crazy about the parking more

Awful Mexican Food 8/20/2006

I have more complaints than I have room to type. They put celery and other fillers in their chunky beef to save money, and let me tell you, celery doesn't go well with mexican food. Their salsa is a joke, watered down tomato paste with seeds. The service is awful and you are lucky if they get your order correctly. When they screw it up, don't expect an apology. One of the top 3 WORST places for mexican food in the Metro Detroit area. Take the extra time and go to Mexican Town in Detroit where they have better food at a cheaper price. more

Why waste your time 5/11/2006

I grew up not far from this place and even worked there for a VERY short period of time. My sister used to love going here, but I'll never set foot in the place again. The service is poor and thats the BEST thing about it. I agree with the Taco Bell reference, the food tastes like cardboard, the sauces are bland as can be and the prep leaves alot to be desired. Oh...and on top of that, the drinks were watered down like you can't believe. Save your cash, Taco Bell is more authentic than this tripe. Cons: awful food, bad service, watered down drinks more

If you want to be insulted, go to this restaurant 11/15/2005

I ordered the Wed special of 2 ""meat"" enchiladas for $4.75. When I got my bill, it was $9. I was told that chicken is not considered ""meat"". To make matters worse, I had a cashier that was not even involved in my conversation with the waitress snicker pointedly at me. This is customer service that I've never experienced in my life before. Do not give this restaurant the satisfaction of taking your money. Cons: Customer Service, Customer Service, Customer Service more

Mexican food?? 9/18/2005

This is an insult to Mexican food. I think it appeals to the Taco Bell crowd. I can't believe either one has stayed in business so long. Charge for chips??? Go to El Naciemiento, Evie's, LasGalanes or anywhere else in Mexican town if you want real food. more

What!? Coleslaw?! 6/14/2005

Only an average TEX-MEX, not even real mexican food. Who ever heard of coleslaw instead of rice? And please don't insult me by charging for the chips! The people who rave about this restaurant have just never been to Mexicantown in Detroit. Pros: Close to suburbs, Nice waitstaff Cons: Coleslaw!, Charge for chips, Salsa no good more

Overrated 1/15/2004

This restaurant was highly recommended by a friend, but both my wife and I found the food to be average or less for the area. My favorite Mexican dish is enchiladas, and the cheese enchiladas I ordered were covered with melted cheese and did not have any sort of sauce on them. Basically it was a plate of melted cheese with interspersed tortillas. Does it say ""come back""? No. more

Worst food in town 1/1/2004

I have been to Mexican Fiesta twice, because two people I know raved about it.The first time I was very dissapointed,They have the nerve to call that tomato paste salsa, its just watered down tomato paste, best chips I've had much better, and they did not charge 50 cents to throw it in the microwave to warm them, avacado dip what is this goes by the market ,go to a Taqueria in Mexican town and you will find authentic salsa and chips are free I would strongly recommend Mi Pueblo for authentic Mexican food I have been to all of the Mexican Restaurants in the Detroit area and Mi Pueblo is the nearest thing to Mexican food I have found.I lived in Mexico for 8 years and this is not authentic . Pros: friendly staff Cons: expensive, no parking, the wait more

My favorite place! 10/10/2003

This is my favorite restaurant in the entire world. My mother started coming here when she was pregnant with me, it is in my blood. I have seen it grow from a one room restaurant to the three dining rooms and cantina that it is now. Everyone I know, I have eventually brought here and they have all loved it! They always have 2 questions: ""You have to pay for the chips and salsa?"" Yes you do, but it is worth it. You will never have chips like this anywhere else; ""You get cole slaw with your dinner?"" Yes you do, and it is the best you will ever have. Very affordable, always excellent service, outstanding food. Just doesn't get any better than this. Now if I can just convince them to open one closer to me! Pros: Excellent service, Great value Cons: Not enough parking, Sometimes long waits more

WHAT...PAY FOR THE CHIPS & SALSA 10/8/2003

This is a place that my brother-in-law that currently lives in Florida ALWAYS has to visit when he is in town! The food isn't ""bad"" but, you can do much better by driving the few extra miles to Mexican town. I think that it is HORRIBLE that you have to pay for the Chips and Salsa, they do bring the chips out nice and warm, but, Chips & Salsa are the staple of Mexican restaurants! Pros: Inexpensive, Ample Parking Cons: Pay for the Chips, Not enough help, Poor Service more

mucho mucho good 1/8/2003

Mexican Fiesta has the best authentic mexican food around. Their burritos and tacos are to die for and they have a really good reputation for their Botana's. Their wait staff is exceptional and they don't mind special orders. Always willing to do it your way. Come early they sometimes run out of the best stuff. Chips and salsa are the best around too. Pros: Good value, portions large Cons: busy/crowded, run out of things more
