Matsu is 3 restaurants in one. The teppen grill, the sushi bar, and the regular dinning. You cannot make reservation for the sushi BAR, but highly recommend rsvp for table or teppen. I call at 1PM to reserve a spot for two at 8pm. The sushi chefs Yuki (tall guy), Yuji bought the place and now is the manager, have a great sense of humor. yes it is a bit pricey, but you are also paying for freshness. With raw fish, I will gladly pay for the freshness, If you want risky cheap fish then go to Todai up the street, but Matsu is quality, Matsu is freshness, Matsu is great service and skill in the preparation and presentation of the food. I have brought many friends new to sushi, and they were impressed with the skill of chefs. Sushi connaisseurs will appreciate the artistic preparations when asking for off the menu items. Try ordering some of the fish as sashimi and see the decoration... ask for Tiger eye, Love boat (itsa not a boat), Poorman handroll, lobster handroll (seasonal), spanish mackarel, SASHIMI: halibut, yellow tail, seabass... they have great menu of cut-rolls too.
Pros: the waitresses wear kimono outfits, music is traditional, service is excellent
Cons: Parking can be challenging, arrive 10 mins to get a good spot, otherwise you'll circle for a bit. YOU MUST MAKE RESERVATIONS
