Market Street Oyster Bar

The restaurant has a busy atmosphere. We went on a Tuesday Evening and we did not have to wait for seating, but it was just a bustling and noisy atmosphere. We have gone here before and really liked it. This time, however, not as much. We had a business dinner with a new Manufacturer's Representative. He is from Vancouver, and is an avid fisherman. He knows his seafood. We told him he would like this place. Well, he loved the bread and the clam chowder. The salad was cold and came on a chilled plate, but the lettuce was wilted. The Ranch and Bleu Cheese salad dressings were good. The boss ordered oysters as always, and he loved them. My husband and I had the halibut. I have always enjoyed the halibut here, but this time it was very bland, and absolutely no flavor. It came with white boiled parsley potatoes, which tasted like dirt, as I imagine how dirt would taste. There were also brussels sprouts, which looked absolutely disgusting. They looked old, and overcooked. Not one of us touched them. The new rep ordered crab cakes. There were 2 of them, and they looked good. He ate one of them. We asked if he liked it, and he said they were not good. He said he never heard of crab cakes with tomato sauce in them. He did not take the second one home. The waitress said they would have gladly given him something else if he had spoken up. She was very nice and pleasant. But he declined the offer. None of us ordered dessert. We were expecting the quality that we had always had when we have dined here. Market Street Grill in Cottonwood has been the choice for business lunches and dinners for our company for a long time. It may have just been a bad day late in the evening. We may give it another chance, but if it is not good again, I am not sure that we would go back. I used to rely on Market Street for a great Sunday Brunch experience-I loved their New York Steak with Eggs Benedict. Unfortunately, after several horrible experiences with the servers I refuse to return. I am a server and am aware of time frames considered reasonable for greeting a table, getting drinks out, taking orders, and receiving food; the last time I was there we waited over ten minutes to be greeted by our server, after she passed our table 4 times I finally hailed her down and asked to be served. She was not apologetic or friendly. It took over another 10 minutes to receive or drinks- when we finally received our food the Eggs Benedict arrived with ham after I had specifically requested no ham. It took almost 2 hours from the time we arrived to finish our experience. More than anything else the consistently bad service has dissuaded me from returning to this restaurant. It's a shame it used to be a nice place to go for Brunch- now I go to Hopper's or Ruth's Diner...service and food are much better at these places. more

This restaurant and the original location downtown used to be the ONLY places to get decent seafood in the city. In fact, we liked it so much that we held our wedding rehearsal dinner there. Over the past two years, we havent visited as frequently since we started a family. But we have gone enough to notice a BIG change at Market Street. The staff is certainly not interested in attending to the patrons and our last meal there took so long to arrive that we had to wolf down our expensive sub-par food to make the late movie. And what's the new menu all about? Many quality selections were removed and you're pretty much out of luck if you want any sort of combination. The ""specials"" are senseless and priced almost identically to similar items on the menu. Unfortunately, quality has really taken a dive. A crab leg served to me on a recent trip was obviously discolored and bad. Of course, they replaced it when I cracked the smelly disgusting thing. But, as far as I'm concerned, it should have never made it past the kitchen trash can. Fish portions are smaller and filler portions are way up. And, the prices certainly aren't going down. I'm willing to pay top dollar for quality seafood and I used to sing praises of this once great seafood restaurant in Utah. Now I guess I'll have to go to Red Lobster or some other chain and deal with their mass produced seafood. At least you get what you pay for. more

We used to go here after mass to have brunch. The last 5 times have been a disappointment to say the least. The wait staff acts like they are above serving you. I thought that was their job. they are so busy talking with each other that they have little time for the customers. You get one chance to have your order taken, tell they you haven't' had time and they will get right back to you, in about 25 minutes. Don't ask for a special order, as it will not be done and it you risk sending it back, you have to wait for the Pope or the Prophet to grant it. The last time we were there we didn't have an hour to wait for a table so we sat at the counter, big mistake, sat right next to the Kitchen and got to see the time and preparation that our orders go through. they scoop everything out of a already cooked pan and throw it on the plate and then it sits under a heat lamp while another grunt slaps on another part of the order, then back to the heat lamp to wait for the servers to decide which one is theirs, oh by the way not all the so called cooks like to wear gloves. Way over priced food is not that good, and the service it terrible. I will take Jim's Restaurant on 4100 so and redwood any day for breakfast. Maybe if more of you sheep complained and didn't follow the bell the service and food would match the prices. more

This is a great place to go if you want a higher priced meal with the ambiance to match. Love the clam chowder. Great service. more

We've had three bad experiences in a row at Market Street Cottonwood and we're not going back. Last Wednesday night, our food took an hour and we never saw our waiter. When the food finally arrived, the $31 steak was over-cooked, my $45 crab legs were cold and shrunken, and the rest of the food was lukewarm. My previous visit was a debacle when my $16 salad (hold the capers, please) came with capers twice...Prior to that visit, we actually left without eating after 70 minutes on a slow Sunday night because we ran out of time to wait for our dinner. Wake up, Market Street, and tell your cooks & waiters that it shouldn't be a burden to cook timely food and give decent service (hold the attitude) - the prices charged reflect premium food and service but your employees don't deliver...sorry. I can never get enough of their great clam chowder, delicious berry desserts, and the fresh crab or lobster, but when you want to be seated and it's incredibly busy, the hostesses tend to get bitchy and the waiters act as though you should feel so lucky that they're waiting on you. It's unfortunate that the service and atmosphere is so poor at Market Street, because sometimes the seafood is actually quite fresh and good. It is very crowded and noisy, and difficult to have a conversation with your dinner guests. The last straw for me was when they attempted to seat my group of 10 so close to another large group that the chairs were actually touching each other. There was no way to leave the table to use the restroom without asking four of your guests and four strangers to move out of the way. Their ""solution"" was to make excuses and move our group (which arrived first) to a small table suitable for only 6 people. We ultimately had to leave and select a different restaurant. A fabulous place to go for a nice dinner with a fabulous view from the restaurant or the roof that just opened this summer. Add to that the convenient location and $15.99 early bird specials and you CAN NOT beat this! Pros: views Cons: crowded more
