10-course omakase 3/25/2006

Some dishes were average, while some were superb. Amuse Bouche of smoke salmon and marinated small squid. I was not too impressed because the salmon was average and the squid was too fishy. Oyster flan: very sophisticated. Tuna sashimi: average. Foie gras with mango and dikon: it is the best foie gras dish I ever had. Seafood consomme soup: soothing and delicate. Lobster with wasabi potato: lobster went surprisingly very well with the potato. Plum wine granite: nothing more than shaved ice, though they consider it one of the courses. Marinated chilean seabass: as good as advertised. Cheese plate: only one kind-average. Desert: vanilla ice-cream in cookie bowl, fresh berries, caramel cage-like dome, and strawberry sauce: looked great, tasted average. Overall, the meal gave me the insight into Chef Akira's cuisine. I will definitely visit this restaurant again, however I will just order from the menu instead. Pros: ambience, parking, taste (mostly) Cons: portion size more

Unexpected nice and romantic evening! 11/20/2005

Here is the restaurant for a perfect romantic evening! First, I was going to take my husband to L'Orangerie but the thought of hitting traffic just not for both of us. So we went to AKIRA. The service was amazing, reminding us of HK or Thailand. The food was great... French with a kick of Japanese! Something totally different! If you enjoy food as much as we do, this is a good place to enjoy two of you alone. The ambience was not noisy or loud.... You can actually enjoy each other conversation. Pros: Good Parking, Good service, Good Food more

Favorite Special Occasion Restaurant! 11/17/2005

My husband and I discovered Maison Akira several years ago, and love to go there on our birthdays. The hostess and staff always remember us and make us feel very welcome. The Prix Fixe menus are outstanding, (especially with thoughtful wine parings) and Chef Hirose always changes his ingredients seasonally. Don't miss the Chilean seabass or the lavendar creme brulee. The dining room is romantic and we always sit near the fire place. The Sunday brunch is excellent as well. Overall, one of our favorite restaurants. Pros: Romantic, Excellent wine list, Delicious desserts more

Nice little place! 11/10/2005

I love the personalized service here. As a regular, they remember your favorite dishes and what your favorite wine by the glass is. And the Chilean Sea Bass is wonderful! Try it! Also the chef likes to occasionally go into the dining room area to check on his diners. I think it is a really nice touch. Pros: service, romantic more

The best French dating restaurant. 11/10/2005

This restaurant is excellence in service and decoration. It's romantic enough because your seating area is quiet, spread out, plus an attentive service. The food is very tasty, but small in portion. I wish the owner Mr. Akira can increase a larger portions. It's a good choice for first date, as the dining experience is in a slow pace. It's expensive, but that the price you paid for a romantic dining. Pros: food, service, decoration Cons: small portions. more

My Favorite Dining Experience 5/18/2005

If you like French-Japanese food - you have to try Maison Akira at least once in your lifetime. I had a prix fixe (around $50 or $60) and every morsel of food was an absolute conversation piece. Also, Chef Akira's legendary miso marinated sea bass is quite a treat. The food was wonderful, and the service was impeccable. Best of all, you can wear you jeans and you won't fee under dressed! PROS: great food - beautiful ambiance CONS: none more

Editorial review from Insider Pages 11/1/2004

A wonderful evening! July 22 was our third visit and as enjoyable as the previous two. Service was friendly and efficient. We had a taste of the house smoked Atlantic salmon, which was delicious. I had two specials, the lobster salad with a touch ofcaviar and the New York steak dabbed with roquefort cheese. Monique had the special foie gras appetizer and the Baby Rack of Lamb. Our entrees were cooked to perfection with sauces that compliment, not overwhelm. We added a glass of Merlot to round out a perfect meal. - eem more

I have a new favorite! I love LOrangerie, but its a bit expensive, Maison Akira is just as nice only reasonably priced. I went there a few weeks ago for my hubbys birthday, the service was great, and so was the food (you have to try their lamb, and the timbal for dessert). The hostess was polite, and we were seated promptly even though I had forgotten to make reservations. Defiantly a romantic place to go, but I would recommend reservations, because its a small place, even if it feels large then it real is. Pros: Great food, Romantic, great service more

Perfect Evening 10/13/2003

Even though much has been said about Chef Akira's chilean seabass, it is absolutely the best dish on the menu! Prepared perfectly, it makes for a terrific dinner. Also noteworthy is the softshell crab and duck if you don't like fish. The service is impeccable, and everyone works hard to make you feel very welcome. more

Perfect. 4/21/2003

The food here is superb. We ate there & expected it to be too formal w/food that fit that billing. We were blown away. This food experience made our Top 5 list & every bit of it was awesome. The service was great & there was no snootiness at all. Chef Hirose is a genius & every dollar was worth it. Pros: The food!, Service, Ambience more
