Well after getting divorced, I started scrounging around every medical bill I could find to figure out what we still owed on. Checked my credit score, and it wasn't as good as I had hoped, but was ok. I figured I would begin paying off the medical debt I had and the score would go up. Seemed like common sense. After paying these guys what little I could monthly for a year or so, I rechecked my credit score and it had fallen by 50 points. I had no credit cards and had no late payments. I saw that MAF had been reporting negatively on me this entire time on 6 accounts! I called a credit counselor. They said to pay off one account completely and then the next and the next instead of each account a little at a time. You will have a lot of phone calls though.
