Tasty French Bistro 1/3/2012

Modern interior and Good French comfort food. Favorites include the Pan Roasted Chicken with Zuccini, Marché Burger, Pate, Leek Tomato Tart, and Lavendar pot de creme. Prices are bit on the high side, not kid friendly (for moms), and hard to find parking, hence the 4 stars. more

Breakfast is just as good 10/27/2009

I've been here for lunch, but this time around, we came here for breakfast. First glance at the menu, I noticed that they have lots of selections - anywhere from simple pastries, to full blown brunch. All items were priced reasonably and if the quality is as good as the lunch I had, then I would totally go. So we tried the quiche, croquette and tuna baguette. Quiche was very creamy and smooth. Croquette was more like a pizza than the croquette I thought, but it was great. This place truly amazing. Great service as well. more

Open for Dinner, no 3/7/2008

I’d always heard of the Café Campagne brunch, but no where did I ‘hear’ of Café Campagne’s dinner. So with all due enthusiasm, I pay homage here for a long overdue stake in the ground: Café’ Campagne is open for dinner to impress. Wow. Our Tartare, Calamari, Cassoulet, Chevre salad and wine were deceptively simple yet so well done. The spices and touch, the taste, and the overall presentation were amazing for a bistro setting. I got the feeling I was in the most sincere representation of Parisian dining anyone could hope to see state side. I’m sure there are others out there that do this same ‘concept’ well, but this went beyond concept and into the realm of totally authentic, as if it had been torn out of the ground on Renault and Champs Elysees and set right on the ground in Seattle at Pine & Post Alley. What a treat. We’ll be back more

Great brunch 8/6/2006

I had a very enjoyable sunday brunch at Cafe Campagne. The food was very good, the service was good, but our table location was close to awful. We were seated right to the left of the door, along the narrow aisle that connects the door with the rest of the restaurant. Not only does every guest go up and down this aisle, but patrons waiting for a table tend to overflow into the space. I sat on the end nearest the door and had to endure a steady stream of whacks by purses and rear ends of larger guests. We tried pulling the table closer to the wall, but to little avail. But, remove this table from the experience, and it was one of the better breakfasts that I've had. We tried two dishes: - the french, french toast - Omelette choisy. The french toast was good, but actually too thick for my taste (low egg to bread ratio). The omelette was incredibly good, as was the fennel sausage that it came with. The omelette alone will bring me back to Cafe Campagne again and again, although I'll refuse to sit at that table again. more

Elegant happy hour 7/31/2006

One of my favorite spots in Seattle to hang out at is the happy hour at Campagne. The late night happy hour is from 10 to 12AM and is rarely crowded. Small plats are available and include decadent items such as pate and french fries cooked in duck fat. Customer service is unobtrusive and the atmosphere can almost make you feel like you are no longer in Seattle. Campagne is also open for dinner and lunch and has a sister restaurant underneath that serves a mean French brunch as well as a slightly less expensive rendition of dinner and lunch. more

One of our favorite restaurants 7/31/2006

We love to go to Cafe Campagne for breakfast, brunch, lunch, or dinner - this is really one of our top 5 choices to eat out. The quiche is my favorite for breakfast, brunch, or lunch - it comes with a fresh salad that I love. My daughter loves the rosemary bread with jam. For dinner, the trout or cassoulet - really anything is great. HIGHLY recommend more

Campagne's mellow twin 6/8/2006

I have found Cafe Campagne to be a great place to go for dinner with the parents (my dad was wooed by the French singer) as well as a fun dessert and drinks place (having the drinks first makes for laughs while translating the menu). It seems much more laid-back than Campagne up the hill and is easier on the wallet, too. They have a solid menu with excellent food and wine, with a more comfortable French bistro ambience. more

Cafe Campagne--Great French Brunch 5/14/2006

I was here this morning for Sunday Brunch and again, the service is good and the food is great. I love the French Bistro feel of the place. I got the French Toast this morning, and this is the only place that does it best! The bread is fluffy and the syrup is not too sweet, served with a side of fresh fruits! Just great! The wait staff there are always nice, they always refilled my water and even on a busy Sunday (especially since it was mother's day weekend), they managed to get us the food quickly and gave us great service. more

croque madame plus a bloody mary 2/19/2006

This is a brunch from heaven. I go almost every week with a couple regulars and a couple guest stars and order the croque madame (plus tomato) and a bloody mary... it's the tastiest meal possible for a sunday morning. If you're going as a party of more than two, I'd recommend getting reservations (which you can do on their website). Try to guess what kind of animal is on their drink list. Be sure not to run into someone when going around the corner to the bathroom by saying "Corner!" (the waitstaff all does this). You can take on any Sunday afternoon activity after fortified with morale and nutrition here. more

"Quintessential Seattle Neighborhood Restaurant" 9/8/2005

Taking restaurant savvy New Yorkers to dinner in Seattle can be a tough, for the obvious reasons. So here is my strategy: select a restaurant that is in no way trying to be a New York restaurant, a restaurant that is clear about being a Seattle restaurant. For me that is Campagne. Set in the Pike Place Market (an excellent location for pre- or post-dinner walk), Campagne is the quintessential Seattle neighborhood restaurant, welcoming tourists and locals (who might dine there two or three nights a week) alike. To dine at Campagne is to watch the Blue Angels fly in formation. It is to witness a corps de cuisine in the seamless execution of a single goal. Campagne is dance. The hallmarks of Campagne's stellar service are knowledge, personality and discipline. Primary among these is knowledge, for which there is no substitute. The staff is encouraged to read, study and taste. For this crew, there is no end to the learning curve. While distinct personalities contribute to the experience, the staff appears uniform and professional. Each is asked to stand squarely at table and face their customers because presence shows that they are paying attention and that they care. Discipline is another critical ingredient of proper service mastered at Campagne. Each member of the staff is organized and capable of multi-tasking at the highest level, thereby creating an environment in which both the server and the guest can thoroughly enjoy the experience and emerge nourished and renewed. The cuisine is certainly influenced by country French culinary traditions, but there is a distinctly Northwest flavor to the plates. Chef Daisley Gordon relies heavily on local and regional ingredients. Some of my favorites: POIREAUX VINAIGRETTES-Leeks in white truffle vinaigrette served with croustade ASSIETTE DE CHARCUTERIE-Served with cornichons, Dijon and stone-ground mustards, and house-made pickled vegetables STEAK FRITES À L'ANCHOIS-Pan-roasted beef onglet with sautéed greens, pommes frites and anchovy butter BOUDIN BLANC AUX DEUX POMMES-Black truffle flecked chicken sausage served with roasted apples and potato purée TIP: If you are planning on dining before the weather changes, ask if you can dine on the patio. more

terrific French food 6/30/2005

The Cafe Campagne is a wonderful French cafe located in downtown Seattle near the Pike Place Market. The food is great - the salad I had before they served the main course was just about the best I can ever remember having! Of course the prices aren't cheap, but once you've had the food you wouldn't expect them to be. more

favorite french restaurant 4/30/2005

In my opinion, this is the best French restaurant in Seattle. It is pretty pricey, but it is so good that I am always satisfied when i come here - and have no regrets about the price. I like their seasonal dishes especially. If you come here at different times of the year you can try different things. Ask for a seat by the window when you make reservations. more

Cassoulet, ca-friggin-soulet! 7/19/2004

To give some weight to this review, I'm French, and food is one of the very few things I miss here. And whenever somebody's asking me about a nice restaurant, my first answer is... Harvest Vine, but that's another review... Whenever somebody's asking me about a good French restaurant, Cafe Campagne is the way to go. Don't try to be fancy and go upstairs. If your only concern is the food, then stay in the cafe. They have most of the great entrees. They change depending on the day of the week. If you don't know what to get, the regular 'steak with fries' is always a good time behind your fork. And if the Cassoulet is on the menu, and you're feeling strong, that's one of the best dishes I've eaten around here! more

  • The Scene
Only the French hit such a perfect note of casual elegance. Warm colors and soft lights meld with the cozy tables and tile floor to create a romantic restaurant that even seriously manly men feel comfortable in. Tourists from Pike Place and the attached Inn at the Market show up seasonally, but locals have been filling the tables for nearly 20 years. Service is knowledgeable without being arrogant, and utterly welcoming.

    The Food
Bass carpaccio is tender and salty, while the ubiquitous green-and-goat cheese salad is dressed up with tasty onions, beets and beans. Succulent grilled quail with fragrant artichoke sauce is ideal for lighter appetites; hungrier folks should steer themselves toward the lamb loin--they'll never taste a more flavorful piece of meat. The perfectly caramelized creme brulee trio includes vanilla, orange and chocolate-chestnut flavors.
