We celebrated a birthday last night and were wowed by Log Haven

Worst

I, too, agree with the other review...in thinking that all of the good ratings must be from the owners of this restaurant. As we ordered, the waitress appologized for the size eve...

Go for the food, not the service 8/9/2002

We've eaten at Log Haven a half a dozen times. Recently, we had a fried oyster salad that was divine. The salad had a light vinagrette, surrounded with tasty strips of bacon, and topped with homemade potato chips. 8 fried oysters over a ranch dressing finished the plate off. My partner had the achiote shrimp and chorizo with a heavenly queso fresco risotto. I had the cappellini with seared scallops- a flavor packed entree with a silky, smoky tomato sauce, bits of sundried tomatoes, and toasted pine nuts. The entrees were more flavorful than they sound on the menu. I've been disappointed with the desserts (they aren't by a pastry chef but by the sous chef). The service can be slow and rushed. This is a BAD place to go when there is a convention in town (ask when you make reservations), as expense account groups get loud. Pros: Excellent food Cons: Inconsistent service, Loud groups, disappointing dessert more

Plastic Patio Chairs? 8/3/2002

Sometimes I get the impression these so called ""reviews"" sound a little to much like advertisments written by the restaurants themselves. This is especially the case with Log Haven. True, the canyon is beautiful - but more so in a car with the windows down, not from the Log Haven patio which resembles that of a ski lodge throwing a barbeque. The plastic patio chairs and rather bland decor are not romantic or charming, nor are the denim uniforms of the servers. The dining room enviornment itself is rather clostrophobic and altogether absent of the intimacy that is so talked about. The food here is left wanting. Chef David Jones seems to want to hide every flavor with a nausiating amount of herbs and spices...so much so it is difficult to know what you are tasting. In fact, I think the only thing unseasoned was the canned whipped cream. Pros: millcreek canyon Cons: price more

my favorite 7/29/2002

I guess it doesn't matter where you go, as long as you are with someone you love... but the Log Haven made a wonderful night magical. The gorgeous waterfalls and romantic atmosphere is the perfect place to gaze into the eyes of someone you love. more

The best of the best! 7/26/2002

Log Haven is one of the most uniquely exquisite dining experiences I've had. The food was amazingly prepared and even more beautifully presented. I commend the kitchen and wait staff....they made the night even more memorable. If you're looking for a great place to celebrate an anniversary or other occasion with a loved one.....this is too good to pass up! more

Very romantic. Beautifully situated in the mountains. Good food. Good service. Just a tad expensive ... but not beyond expectations for what you are getting! Pros: Beautiful, Romantic Cons: Expensive more

Fine canyon dining 5/14/2002

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Salt Lake City. It's a short drive from downtown, but it's remote enough to feel like you're far away. Excellent food, service and ambience make this one of the most romantic dining spots in town. Pros: Romantic, excellent food Cons: Crowded more
