We celebrated a birthday last night and were wowed by Log Haven

Worst

I, too, agree with the other review...in thinking that all of the good ratings must be from the owners of this restaurant. As we ordered, the waitress appologized for the size eve...

Perfect Gourmet Food in the Wilderness 2/13/2008

Ate here last week and was wowed! The food was terrific including the free beginning taste from the chef. The server was professional and very knowledgeable and let us dine at our leisure...no rush out to turn the table here. We sat by the fireplace and took a walk around the grounds to enjoy the waterfall and the enormous icicles. I would love to come back here in the summer and dine outdoors. This was like a min-vacation just a few minutes away from downtown Salt Lake City. I will return. Pros: Friendly, professional, unique Cons: must drive to it more

Always stellar 8/12/2007

I am a frequent diner at this restaurant - I bring colleagues to Log Haven every month. For my last visit I had invited several friends and ended up with a party of eleven. There was high energy throughout the entire table due to the expert handling of the server, Jack and the management. We tried five appetizers - that included the kobe beef, calamari, mushrooms, duck confit and the halibut cheek. They were incredible - my personal favorite was the halibut cheek - melt in your mouth fish with saffron risotto. Wow. I enjoyed the seasonal fish for dinner which was a pacific seabass - but tried several other dishes. Bison cooked perfectly. I know my choice for next meal will be the hankerchief pasta - the flavors were unique and tasty. For dessert, I always struggle over the lemon tart or the coffee cake - but with 10 other friends - we were able to enjoy the complete dessert menu. It may have been the oohs and aahs and praises from my associates that account for this statement - but Log Haven you are the best that Salt Lake has to offer in ambiance, dining and service. Thank you! Pros: Beautiful canyon restaurant with thoughtful cuisine and impeccable service. more

Overrated, bland, small portioned, and over priced. 4/8/2007

Much of the reviews I have read regarding this restaurant lead me to believe that either they are fake or I came on a VERY bad day. The fact that the day I am speaking in reference to was Easter Sunday would lead me to believe that they would put their best foot forward. Pros: Great place in the canyons and friendly staff. Cons: Value and food. more

Terrific All Around 7/26/2006

Two colleagues and I went here for a business meeting and had a terrific meal. The service was understated and exemplary, the food was extremely well prepared (our goat cheese appetizer was really superb) and the setting couldn't have been better. Pros: Food is well-prepared & Service was fantastic Cons: Can be pricey but it's worth it more

Change of mind.... 5/23/2006

I wrote a review of Log Haven, posted several posts below. After several years, I opted to try it again for Mother's Day. My opinion of this establishment has changed entirely! From the moment we walked in and they accomodated my elderly mother to a fairly close table, to the point where the valet delivered our car with meticulous timing, I could not fault anything. My flatiron steak with goat cheese tamale was scrumptious and the banana cream pie to die for. I do believe my previous encounter was an aberration and, when I'm wrong, I have to admit it. Log Haven is definitely worth the price and the drive. I will certainly be back the next chance I get! Pros: Service, Food, Ambiance Cons: The walk to the door more

Beautiful Location for Special Occasions 3/9/2006

Log Haven features wonderful food with a beautiful location. The menu changes and is always delicious, but it is not as good as some other restaurants as far as menu items are concerned. Go for the atmosphere--I was seated by the fire, and it made for a very romantic evening. The Oaxacan Cheese appetizer (not on the menu right now) was incredible, and I'm sad they removed it. Overall, the food is good enough to merit the prices, but it won't take your breath away. Pros: Atmosphere, Ambience, Location more

Best Canyon Dining in Utah 6/18/2004

'Luv this place. The duck is the best I ever had, so is the pork chop and the salmon. But, this place is not a steakhouse. They have a real chef here. Take advantage of his talents. We picked this place over all other restaurants in Utah for our wedding reception. Pros: Duck, Pork chop, Salmon, Desserts, Romantic, view Cons: Hostess more

Superb Experience 8/3/2003

Log Haven is truly a find in Salt Lake. I dined with friends and so enjoyed our experience we didn't want to leave! Chef Jones' cuisine is remarkable. Flavor combinations are perfect and beautifuly displayed and of course delicious. We started with champagne and then Ian, their GM graciously suggested wines by the glass for our entrees. Our table was by a window that opened up and let the cool canyon air surround us. After dinner we strolled across the street to a rock waterfall. Log Haven is truly a superb experience in dining and atmosphere. more

Best in State 6/16/2003

Possibly the best dining experience in the entire state. Great food, portions, ambiance, location....what's not to like! This is where I proposed to my wife. more

IT ALL DEPENDS 4/14/2003

I have snacked at fine and not so fine eateries all over N.America.More than any place I've ever eaten it does depend on the time of day, season, where you are seated and the wait person you enjoy or endure. The food is far better than average for UT,a place where the the most popular eatery is a chain I call CHOKARAMA.There are fewer gourmet types in all of UT than at South beach, for example. The Log' food has always been worth any irritation. The right season does beg you to enjoy the wonders of nature. If you are in Ut for more than changing planes,I would rate this a must try. Pros: scenery, food, ambiance,if lucky Cons: can be poorly seated, not always filling, careful when you go more

Best location! 12/11/2002

The drive up the canyon to the restaurant sets the tone for a ""getaway"" dinner. Good food, can be very romantic. Pros: Location, Ambiance, Quality & selection more

downhill 11/20/2002

while log haven is stunningly beautiful, i think the food has gone down hill. For the prices charged, the flavors should be better! more

WAY OVERRATED!!!! 11/17/2002

I, too, agree with the other review...in thinking that all of the good ratings must be from the owners of this restaurant. As we ordered, the waitress appologized for the size everything was going to be when we received it. The prices were OUTRAGEOUS! And the menu choices where awful, definitely not for the average diner. There was nothing on the menu that was 'normal'. I ordered a diet coke...it took forever to get a refill and then to find out they charged me for both drinks. Not very classy. I will not return. If you want a nice, classy, expensive dinner...go to La Caille. I have never been disappointed there. And I totally agree with the person who said something about the plastic patio furnature!!! At $135 for two (with no wine) I think they could do better! Cons: Expensive, Small portions, Strange choices more

Talked up a little to much 11/13/2002

My experiance to the Log Haven was not very good. The service was like something i would expect at Denny's but not at a so called elegant dining establishment. Overall the service was poor, the selection was slim to none and the food was very poor. The pasta i had was like something you would get out of a tv dinner. It was actually some of the worst i have had, it was very very dry. The setting i would have to say was the only decent part of the night. The trees were snow covered, icicle's were hanging over the roof's, that i would have to say was one decent part of the night. But every place has a day where there service is'nt top notch, i just hope that for the log haven's sake it is not like that every night. Well at least there fire was warm. Pros: Setting Cons: food, service more

Satisfying 11/6/2002

Log Haven has delicious complex flavors and a fine menu. I ordered the filet mignon. Unfortunately I did have to send it back since I ordered it medium rare, and it came well done. The waitress handled the situation beutifully through. The crab cakes were well prepared, and the bread pudding was absolutely to DIE for. I highly recommend Log Haven. Pros: Ambience, Scenery, Service Cons: Expensive more

ROMANTIC! 10/18/2002

We celebrated our anniversary here this year! What a wonderful place! We ate outside and I would highly recommend it if the weather is nice. The grounds are beautiful and the sound of the water nearby is very relaxing and peaceful. The food was outstanding! Wonderful soup and salad as well as dessert! We had the steak and tuna! A bit expensive, but for what you get (including service), it is well worth it! Pros: ATMOSPHERE, FOOD, SERVICE Cons: PARKING, EXPENSIVE more

SL is in trouble 8/29/2002

This is a great place to dine, shows peoples mentality to nominate Sizzler, Tuccis, and Buco de crappo. I bet the Chef actually speaks English and graduated from high school, along with working hard at some culinary schools. The owners have put some very hard work in seleting the menu, working on the facility, and training the staff. Job very well done Log Haven! more

Best Unique Menu in SLC! 8/20/2002

Last night (Aug.19.02) my wife and I celebrated our 10th anniversary at the Log-Haven (at least that was ""part"" of the celebration ) The food was unique, well crafted, and absolutely delicious. We started with the Prawn appetizer, both had spinach salads, she had the lamb, and I had the seared tuna. Everything was superbly prepared. The only negatives were that the prawns in the appetizer were more like 35-40 count shrimp and there were only 4 and the bacon on the salad was a whole strip of bacon that required a knife to cut which was a bit of a put-off since the spinach was so delicate. Also, the table service was adequate, but definately not what you would expect at a restaurant of this caliber. Overall go here if you don't mind paying for quality cuisine and atmosphere...because you will pay...I don't mind and it was great! 8^) Pros: great unique menu, exquisite preparation, great ambience Cons: sm portion appetizer, serv good/not xclnt, price more

excellent in every way 8/19/2002

The combination of quality food, service and ambiance is unrilvaled in the Salt Lake City area. more

A Kiss on the Bridge! 8/12/2002

The food was fantastic, the service was fun... our server was an entertainingly sarcastic animal rights activist, and the ambiance was incredible! The illuminated waterfall and bridge made it all the better! more
