Pretty and pretty good too 3/7/2009

I love this place, I love this place I love this place. Food is great, even was served warm on st patties day! My friends and I always share dishes because we just can't pick. Pros: professional servers, decor, yummy food and good price, drinks, entertainment Cons: busy, extremly popular equals hard to get seating more

Great Service & Food - Fun and Busy Atmosphere 10/24/2008

I was delighted with my dinner at the Local. I've been there for drinks, it's always a busy, fun crowd. Had dinner the other night, the food was just terrific. They have wonderful salads, you can customize them however you like. The Shepard's pie was out of this world. They also have nice wine by the glass and the Irish Coffee is the best I've ever had. I was impressed at how friendly and fast the service was, even though it was busy. It was a fun atmosphere with very friendly and gracious employees, the building is also gorgeous, reminds me of being in Europe. I will definitely go back for lunch or dinner soon. Pros: Great Service & Homemade Food Cons: Downtown Parking, but they did validate more

Unsanitary 7/14/2008

I went to the Local the evening of July 13th, 2008. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwhich with a side salad and I found (I kid you not) a pubic hair in my salad. After realizing what I was holding in my hand I almost lost it and immediately lost my appetite. That really goes to show how unsanitary their kitchen help really must be. Pros: Ambiance Cons: Not Sanitary more

Always a good time. 1/30/2008

This is one of two places I go when I want to have fun in MPLS. The place is huge but it still feels very intimate. The woodwork is gorgeous and it has a good selection of beers/scotch. Pros: Great atmosphere. Cons: Slow service at times. more

Horrible Service 11/8/2007

I understand the appeal of the Local - good beer selection, cozy atmosphere, but I find myself avoiding it. It seems as if it is so popular, the servers/bartenders feel they don't need to put forth any effort to provide good service. The happy hour prices are mundane as well. There are other locally owned restaurants/bars in the Twin Cities that have better specials and better service. Pros: Nice atmosphere Cons: expensive, horrible service, snotty servers, not good happy hour specials more

Great Irish Beers on tap. Very neat architecture! 6/11/2007

A place that looks very old but is relatively new. Great staff. Great beers. A place where you want to sit on the patio and drink and nice dark beer and watch the people walk by on Nicollet!!! A great place to relax and have a few cold ones! :D Pros: Great Irish Beers on tap! Great location! Cool architecture! Cons: Brunch needs to be improved upon. more

Great music, place to meet people 11/21/2006

This bar is one of my favorites. I love the crowd, the music, and the atmosphere. Great happy hour specials - try to 5 burgers for $5 (make sure you have friends to share with!)... also great on the weekends - very popular but not too crowded. I've always had a great experience here and met some fun people. more

Beautiful decor, sorta pricey, laid back, fun 3/31/2006

I love he decor of this pub. High tin covered ceilings with natural wood everywhere! The place is large enough and has a few particians within to make you feel you are in different sections of a large area. Some couches here and there to kick back in with you ground. The food and drinks are a bit overpriced in my opinion because they are nothing special, typical bar foods. Not a place to go to get a buzz going, but definately a place to hang, have a drink and talk to new faces. Crowd is 27-40 age group. Not trendy as you have a wide variety of people of all makes. People are laid back, business casual setting, some business standouts too. Located across from Newsroom and Brit's Pub. Pros: Decor, Atmosphere, Good looking crowds Cons: Pricey, crowded, can get loud more

Great indoor and outdoor dining/drinking 9/26/2005

Celebrated a friend's birthday inside and it was cozy, food was great and the service was excellent. Also had lunch there recently and sat outside on the sidewalk. Again had a great experience, plus the sunshine and people watching on Nicollet Ave was spectacular. more

Over crowded 9/12/2005

The place is fine...but you have to remember that a place is only good if you can get a chance to experience it. There is nothing fun about wanting to unwind after work or go out for an enjoyed meal/drink on the weekend and have to deal with a far too crowded restaurant. Of course, this means folks like the place. But, again, the bottom-line is to not count on this place unless you like to wait. Pros: good food, price is average Cons: horrible parking, crowded constantly more

Minneapolis gets it right 8/9/2005

Went for dinner with a group of 8 people on a Tues night. We had a nice table reserved in the corner hidden away fro the rest of the bar/restaurant. great beers on tap, every kind of Irish whiskey available, and decent Irish food. Great layout, many different areas to eat, drink and relax. Nice patio as well, always packed Pros: Atmosphere, Draft Beers, architecture more

WOW - The Place to be - single or not! 6/15/2005

This is an outstanding location for those single and not. THe stmosphere is supurb and the staff...Awesome! You have to feel it to believe how truly authentic this Irish bar is...and hear a few sexy accents too! Fabulous more

Highly Recommended! 11/15/2004

I've been to The Local numerous times, and have never been disappointed. They have a LARGE selection of imported beers on tap and great food. The portions of food are very large so go with an empty stomach! Pros: Good Value, Outdoor seating, Kissing room more

Interesting but average 1/21/2004

The fish and chips were good, and did get to me hot. I highly recommend them. I liked the wooden decor but the noise and overcrowding diminished it's attractiveness. I think they're probably understaffed. Our server twice talked about how busy they were, and to give him a minute. I think he did his best but was overwhelmed. Pros: Good food, On Nicollet mall Cons: Noisy, Overcrowded more

Local Mediocrity. . . 12/12/2002

The atmosphere is very pub-like, as expected. It is the service that was abominable. Half our drink order did not arrive until 2 requests had been made to the server, and only then did they arrive without explanation or apology. I was here during a noon hour for lunch with 14 officemates. Perhaps it was the size of our party that threw them off. The menu was as expected with plenty of sandwiches and pub offerings that sounded better than they were. The fish and chips were greasy and soggy. The Irish stew looked oddly institutional. The grilled halibut was the saving grace as were the key lime pie. The tap brew offerings were a definite bright spot with good pours of Guiness. This is probably a nice spot for a cold one but if hungry, look elsewhere. Pros: The beer, Good pub atmosphere, Nice location Cons: Poor service, Sub-average pub food more

Great at off peak dining hours 12/5/2002

I love this place. It has old world charm and can be very romantic. It is a great place to eat and have a drink after a long day of shopping as long as you don't get there during peak dinner hours on the week-end. Then the Local becomes loud and smokey. Leave the week-ends for hanging with friends on the wonderful sectioned off ""den"" like areas. This is great for social gatherings. more

QUAINT AND TRENDY BUT DARK 11/30/2002

TRENDY, QUAINT, GOOD FOOD AND DRINK CHOICES A LITTLE TOO DARK LIMITED SEATING AND SMOKEY. Pros: UNIQUE Cons: PARKING more

Great Atmosphere 8/22/2002

We have never eaten here, just enjoy the people watching and atmosphere. Great place to meet friends more
