I want to preface my review of NDC by saying that our dance instructor was really great and super enthusiastic. She really cared to make sure that we were getting what we wanted ...

Editorial review from Citysearch 3/2/2015

It was really simple for me, when I see people having more fun than me I want in on the action. As a musician I basically stumbled in on one of NDC Belle Meade dance parties and fell in love with the whole event. People were laughing, dining, socializing and Oh Yeah, Dancing! I was impressed because there were dancer out on the floor of every level and having the time in their lives. I said, well if they could do it so can I. I picked out one of the many adorable instructors and I'm having starting too look like a Dancer and I'm having a ball! Somebody Stop Me! 4 Stars out of 4! more

Editorial review from Citysearch 11/8/2013

My Wife and I have been going to NDC for about 2 months now and it is just amazing how much fun we are having and how much we have learned in the short time we have been going. Our instructor and the entire staff have shown great patience and they all seem to really enjoy working there. more

Check your self esteem at the door 11/2/2011

A friend invited me on a guest pass to this dance club. After her first class, she bought an introductory package and loved it, so I decided to purchase also. It was fun, right up until the sales tactics. After my first lesson, I was sat down and told what a natural I am, how much faster than most people I was learning, how much better about myself I Pros: null Cons: null more

Worse than used car sales people 10/23/2011

A friend invited me on a guest pass to this dance club. After her first class, she bought an introductory package and loved it, so I decided to purchase also. It was fun, right up until the sales tactics. After my first lesson, I was sat down and told what a natural I am, how much faster than most people I was learning, how much better about myself I?ll feel, how much more attractive I will be to other people. Too bad my self esteem isn?t based on what other people think of me. I still decided to buy the introductory package because I in fact did enjoy myself. My teacher was great. He was friendly, entertaining and patient. He didn?t have a dance background, but for what I was paying for this package, about $37.16 per class, I didn?t expect him to. I just expected him to have a good knowledge about the dances. My friends teacher did have a strong dance background and she loved learning with him(although he did try the same lines with her about how much more attractive to others she would be if she continued. It?s seriously dirty pool trying to play on ?every woman?s insecurity? that her happiness depends on how others see her. We saw this multiple times. We even saw one girl break down crying while a manager and her instructor kept at her). She finished her introductory package first and decided that she wanted to continue dancing, despite the sales tactics.......until the price for "30 lessons" was given to her. It was more than the down payment for my house. And only 10 of those lessons were even private. 10 were good for group classes. The rest were from bringing in guests and from her introductory package. Basically you?re looking at 20 classes for $1800 (That?s with a ?Discount if you paid within 2 weeks. Otherwise it?s $2000). That's $90 per class. After taxes, that?s a full days pay for me. Honestly, for $90 per class, I expect my teacher to have several years of experience in dance, not just be?..oh how does the ad for new teachers put it????Applicants must be well groomed, well mannered, 18 years of age, and in good physical condition. This is definitely an industry for the "people person!" Teachers need to be warm, friendly, and not afraid of new, exciting challenges. We are looking for 3 males and 8 females immediately! Because of our comprehensive training program, prior ballroom dance experience is not required. However, previous dance training in any dance style is a definite plus! Accepted applicants will be placed in our free training program for approximately 4 weeks in length.? Guess I should have applied for a job. Sounds like I could have learned for free in 4 weeks what was going to be taught to me over months and pretty much cost me my right kidney to pay for. And I?d like to think I would at least act interested in the person I am dancing with. I wouldn?t constantly be looking around with a bored look on my face while dancing with them at the ?parties.? After we turned down more lessons (after repeatedly telling the manager and our dance instructors that there was no way possible we could afford to do this and them trying to come up with ways for us to pay for it??right down to telling us things that we could cut out of or budgets so that we could pay and constantly being told that we would regret it if we didn?t do this, that they can?t change the prices but they can make the payments smaller for a longer amount of time) we were kinda treated like second class citizens. Pros: null Cons: null more

It's a Great Day (and Place) to Dance 11/19/2010

I have been at NDC Belle Meade since January 2010 and love every minute of it. I have always wanted to learn to dance, and NDC is helping me realize my dream. I have danced at a couple of non-NDC studios in town, and they have their merits, but for me, NDC Belle Meade is the best fit. more

NDC Belle Meade 11/16/2010

There's a reason we've been at NDC Belle Meade for a number of years...it has been a great experience. And it is an experience we intend to continue. It is an investment, but an investment we are so thankful to have made. I have friends who dance at other dance clubs, and they tell me they enjoy those, but for our money NDC Belle Meade is the place. Pros: null Cons: null more

Just wanted to send out a friendly reminder that there are 3 National Dance Clubs Locations in the Middle Tennessee area. Please make sure if you are writing a review, that you write a review for the appropriate location. Pros: The Happiest Friendliest Spot in Town!! more

IF YOUR NOT RICH STAY AWAY!! 3/16/2010

I was invited to NDC as a guest over a year ago. At first everything was wonderful then, as soon as I slowed down on the number of lessons I took a week and didn't do the shows any longer because of the expense (once you get past your first set of lessons which is only a couple of hundred they run over $10,000 for a book of about 100 lessons!!), everything changed!! They no longer danced with me on Friday nights unless it was a slow night, I was the last one called to book in lessons then was frequently bumped for other students who were doing more than I was and was told I would lose what I had learned (muscle memory) if I did not continue at the same pace I had been previously. All in all it ended up making me feel horrible and that I had simply thrown my money away! I also agree with the other comments here about the alcohol and drug abuse. I saw it as well especially at the Friday parties. My instructor would drink before the parties and you could smell it on him!! I'm glad I learned to dance but am happy I left before they got my life savings!! Pros: live bands on fridays Cons: not worth the money more

Learn to Dance-Have a wonderful time 3/3/2010

So grateful that someone invited me to National Dance Club. I had taken a few lessons before coming to NDC and frankly never thought I could be a good dancer. After my first guest night I was convinced I could. Everyone is so encouraging and positive. All my life I had wanted to do this, and now my dream is becoming a reality. Pros: Best Instructors and staff Cons: That I have to do other things and can't dance 24/7 more

Having a ball and loving it! 1/18/2010

Six months ago I signed up for my first lesson in Belle Meade and showed up with a 'deer in the headlight' look. I think back and chuckle, wondering how could I have been so nervous?! The team at NDC makes learning to dance fun, so much that I consider classes/lessons my guaranteed 'happy time' every week. I look forward to those days or evenings and find myself anticipating what new step or dance I'll be introduced to next. The camaraderie between students and instructors is comfortable and easy going and the new friendships I'm making, well, they're priceless! They offer a variety of events and the Friday night parties are a ball! Please give NDC a try; don't hesitate. My experience is helping me become a healthier person (both inside and out), and it continues to bring joy to my life. I'm learning, I'm dancing and I am happy! Pros: A totally fun, comfortable & friendly atmosphere more

Brought Out My Confidence! 1/13/2010

I first went to NDC filled fear and anxiety, but the minute I walked in, the receptionists and everyone I came in contact with made me feel at home and welcome. My instructor was professional and patient with me every step of the way. I have now been here for a little over 6 months and LOVE IT!!!! I am so comfortable now and am way more outgoing than I have ever been! This place has changed my life for the better! Pros: Great instruction, beautiful place, friendly employees Cons: Parties are sometimes overcrowded more

High Quality Service 5/29/2009

I had gone to some other dance studios in another state before I moved to Nashville. I found the service severely lacking in those schools, so I was reserved when coming to National Dance Clubs. I had also heard about the high pressure-sales and the expense, but I really wanted to learn at a good school and was ready to pay for it if it was to be had. I am a teacher myself, and so I know a thing or two about teaching. Pros: Terrific service and a variety of different opportunities Cons: Leaves you wanting more more

AVOID this place for dance lessons 3/16/2009

My 3 friends and I have all had bad experience at this place. When it comes to selling lessons here it can get pretty interesting. the manager watches you dance for about 10 seconds then calls you in there office and says your progressing really fast and should buy another lesson package. When they told me how much it cost ($6400) I said no i just wanted to learn the basic steps and that was it. They turned from fake and cheerful to mean really fast.. After getting hounded for about and hour to by more lessons i left there about 8pm. later that night about 10:30 PM the dance instructor calls me trying to sweet talk me into buying more lessons!!! A couple days later i go in for my last lesson and they changed my instructor hoping she would do a better job at selling me lessons, My last lesson i didnt even learn anything, the instructor sayed i had no communication skills and was unable to fuction in the real world unless i purchase the 6400$ pakage. So i got pulled in the other managers office i told them straight up no within the first minute then i was excused. PLEASE DON'T TAKE LESSONS HERE. Pros: Friday night parties are fun (open bar) Cons: very fake people, not serious with you. Its all about selling more

Terrible Experience 3/3/2009

All we wanted was to learn a dance to do at our wedding. That is what we were told we would get, and it is certainly not what we got. These people care more about SELLING LESSONS than TEACHING DANCE. The instruction is a sales pitch in itself. The teacher is nice, but way over the top with high fives and fake smiles. They even have you stand in a circle and hold hands on guest night. I was starting to think I just stepped into a cult. Seriously, if you want to learn a dance, go to a dance school or hire a private dance instructor. NDC teaches you enough to get you interested, then they slow it down so you have to buy more lessons to learn more. We didn't even get to finish all the lessons we bought because they did the pressure sales meeting before our last group lesson. It was so uncomfortable that we never want to go back. We learned more from YouTube instructional videos than from NDC. If you want to learn a dance for your wedding, your money would go to better use by hiring a private dance teacher to teach you a dance. The introductory package at NDC was like $250, and they never even told us this was just an "introductory" package. The instructor had us believing the entire time that we were actually going to learn our wedding dance... at the next lesson. Avoid this place. Your wallet and patience will thank you for it. Pros: nice instructor, but made you feel bad for not buying more lessons Cons: everything else about it more

Great Date Night For Me and My Wife 2/23/2009

We love the parties and all the activities once you have learned how to dance. If you want to use what you have learned this is the place. Pros: Friendliest place I have ever been Cons: parking more

World Class Instruction 12/2/2008

Was just browsing through and happened to see National Dance Clubs where I learned to dance...and where I still go regularly for lessons, great fun and entertainment. The instruction is top-notch...much of it world-class as are some of the instructors. There is Kellie Williams, beautiful, vivacious, and a top professional competitor and teacher. if she doesn't fit, try Kiah Pierce who could be performing on Broadway today if she so wished. There is regular coaching by Gary Pierce, a world-class ballroom choregrapher and coach who has coached national and world champions. And they regularly bring in world-class performers and national and world champions for special coaching sessions. If you really want to dance, this is the place to learn and to have a great time week in and week out. I often drive home from the Friday night parties and find myself exclaiming, "Damn, that was fun"! Expensive? It can be, but so is eating. I must admit that I saw the review by Dancer62 who said something like "NDC is 'aweful'. " Well, if you can't spell "awful", that's awful. I can only offer my experience. I simply love the place. Pros: It is so much fun there Cons: Like everything of high quality, it can be expensive more

NDC will take all of your money. Instruction is AWEFUL! 11/15/2008

My husband and I took lessons @ NDC for almost a year. The lessons were boring. The "instructors" were young and right off the street. They had NEVER been trained in ballroom until they were hired by NDC. Nice? yes. Friendly? yes. But then they whisk you into the "office" acting like they have "no idea" what's about to happen in there, and that's when you get the sales pitch.( that the "innocent" instructor knew was coming, but he/she is not allowed to forewarn you or tell you about it beforehand) The manager will stroke your ego, tell you you're "the best dancers we've had in here in years" and that " no one has picked up these steps like you do. You're really fast". Then they stroke your ego some more and tell you about the next level and at the very end, only when you ask , they tell you the amount. It will be in the thousands of dollars. SO BEWARE. We left NDC b/c of the shady practices there. We weren't being taught HOW to ballroom dance and they DO HOLD YOU BACK to get you to sign up for more lessons and spend more money. After being @ Danceworld for the past 1 1/2 yrs, we KNOW that we weren't taught anything more than patterns with our feet. They do not teach technique b/c they don't know it. They say they do, but after Danceworld , they have no technique experience at all. Don't waste your money @ NDC. The parties might be fun ,but the dance instruction is aweful. Start with the real dancers @ Danceworld and LEARN HOW to dance. My husband and I did. We are so much better than we ever would be @ NDC. Pros: Friday night party with band Cons: too expensive, deceptive selling, young inexperienced instructors with no training in dance more

They get the job done 9/24/2008

For those who have some experience with ballroom, you know that many studios go in and out of business. My experience with NDC is that they have persevered when many other studios have fallen to the wayside. Are their lessons bargain basement? No. But they get the job done. They guarantee you will learn how to dance, and they deliver. I'll pay a little more for that any day. Pros: Cheerful staff, guaranteed lesson plans, plenty of activities and practice opportunities, lots of partners more

Great instructors, despicable business model, avoid!!! 9/20/2008

I agree completely with the negative reviews here. Instructors are friendly and make the lesson fun all round, although they are clearly under orders from the management to push more lessons on clients. Initially, my fiancee and I did the basic package which consists of waltz, rumba, swing, foxtrot and tango - without any of complicated elements. This package was three private lessons and three Friday night dance parties and cost about $250 with a coupon. Pros: Nice instructors Cons: Slimy, pushy sales managers more

Be careful who you get! 6/2/2008

Watch out!!!! I took some lessons here with a friend of mine not too long ago, but the bad taste from this place is still in my mouth! I was greeted by a very friendly instructor that looked about 16, who then proceeded to talk to me throughout the entire lesson as if I were a kindergartener. Not to mention, the facility looked like a 1st grade classroom with all the posters and stars and stickers everywhere. I finally accepted that my instructor was probably told how to teach and act, due to the obvious way his words were "rehearsed." I wasn't crazy on the sales tactics, but I reluctantly purchased a "starter package" and was promised the basics to a few dances. I enjoyed the friday parties they had with a band and an open bar. There were some other, more experienced, teachers that helped when you messed up. I tried the group classes, but didn't really dig them all in all. My distaste came when I had to deal with the "supervisors" or the closers. They were cold, unpersonable, and it really seemed they were only there for the $$$. I enjoyed my lessons with my teacher, but I just couldn't deal with the crappy team of salesmen (and woman) they had. After the second set of lessons I purchased, I had become, what I thought, was a competent dancer. I was brought in, once again to buy more lessons. When I wouldn't purchase another HUGE set of lessons, I was immediately disregarded. I was ignored at the parties, and when I came in for my last lesson, they had put me with another teacher. As if he was going to do a better job selling me "Style, Grace, and blah blah blah" My advice, Travel a bit further and go to their sister school in Brentwood. They really know how to treat their clients. I've had some lessons there and I feel more apart of their family than I do my own. I gave them a shot and you know what?? that whole "Style, Grace, and blah blah blah" package is really turning me into a great dancer. Brentwood=5, Belle Meade=1. Pros: Great parties, Friendly Staff, Open Bar, Young vibe. Cons: Bad Sales Tactics, Expensive, Poor Management, Amateur Customer Service. more
