I won't be going back... 10/14/2011

You would think by going at 3:30 on a Friday afternoon there would be parking somewhere other than in the (overpriced) cave. I drove for 15 minutes to park for 3 disappointing minutes in Dick's Sporting Goods. I should have followed my instinct and drove the distance SOMEWHERE else other than Gateway. The disappointing selection at high prices at Dick's sealed the deal. I won't be going back. more

Shame on the Gateway - Over priced, over-glamed, 7/8/2010

Over priced, over-glamed, over promoted. Cons: Too many to list more

We froze 6/24/2010

We tried shopping here once. It was winter and we absolutely froze. Parking is inconvenient. We parked at one end of the place, walked a ways and then, since it was so cold, we had to run from store to store -- warming up in each store -- in order to try to make it back to our car. Cons: weather, parking more

Pathetic cheap outdoor mall 9/12/2009

Parking is terrible: enter into the abyss by driving into a maze that looks to be designed by architects that were smoking something. Absolutely impossible to figure out where you are vs where you want to be, which wouldn't be so bad if the mall was a vertical one, but this sucka is two loooong city blocks, so if you choose poorly, you'll be walking grandman and the kids half a mile to shop. Be sure to get a clue as to where you parked because you'll NEVER find your car again unless you take pains to write down where your car is. Did it ever occur to anyone that the reason the parking is underground because, most often, it's nice indoors and not outdoors in northern Utah? No problem having an outdoor mall unless you are walking thru a foot of snow between stores (or ice where they have shoveled). Or lets say it's sunny: now the nearby star beats down upon same grandma and kids, melting them into pools of hairy grease. Getting the picture? It's either too hot or way too cold. The fountains are nice. Who lives in the apts up there? Do they get to take the change falling out of people's pockets when they die from not finding their car? Or when the they freeze to death outside. Pros: They don't charge you to breathe...yet Cons: Too hot, too cold, shabby cheap-looking american mall more

Love it! 9/13/2008

How can you not love the Gateway? It is the best shopping place in SLC! I love going there and hitting all the stores, seeing a movie, and then getting some food. I am so excited for the holidays to come and have everything be decorated and festive!! more

Mean parking policies 2/12/2008

Don't park at the Gateway to go to events held at the Energy Solutions Area. We parked and ate at The Gateway before going to the Harlem Globetrotters on Feb. 11th and got parking validations to lessen the expense. When we tried to leave the Winter parking garage we were told that the exit closest to us was not open for exit unless we paid the attendant $5.00. If we wanted to use our parking validations we were told that we had to go to another exit where there was a 45 minute wait. It felt like a scam and that we were being held as a sort of hostage if we were unwilling to pay. Why can't they open that exit after events as a convenience to customers and take parking validations there as well? I will probably NOT park and eat there again before events. This mean policy will prevent people like me from eating in the Gateway establishments before events. There are parking lots closer to the arena that charge the same $5 and have better exit access and you can eat anywhere you want. Pros: Mean parking policies more

Bad parking policies 11/10/2006

We've enjoyed shopping and dining at the Gateway, but it is certainly not a ""unique"" experience. The only unique part of the mall is the Discovery Gateway, which is a good children's museum, and the Planetarium. But the parking is terrible. The parking garages are not set up well and if you don't get a validation it is expensive. You really should not plan on going to the museum and then a movie unless you want to shell out for parking. A validation from the museum and from the movie theater are not accepted on the same visit. Apparently spending your money on entertainment (in our case well over $100), is not good enough for the Gateway. You have to leave with apparel, too. Pros: Discovery Gateway Cons: parking, expensive more

Gateway compares well !! 6/2/2006

Having lived in major cities worldwide, Salt Lake City has many positives on its side. One major positive is The Gateway District and it's ever expanding development. To the Boyer Company. First, thankyou for your vision and addition to this ever expanding metropolis. Your architectural mix of building shapes and there arrangement is very attractive. Infact, I would say much more so than many outdoor malls I have visited, expecially with the Union Pacific Depot added to the mix. Also the Olympic fountain is much nicer and more usable than many other fountains. If possible in the future as an update to your expansion plans, could you please fine- tune the exterior finish of some of the buildings. The stucco finish is great as a complement or break in patterns, such as your use of stucco with generous stone accents. However,in certain areas there is definately too much stucco. Pros: compares well, downtown a plus, parking convenient Cons: too much stucco, relocate homeless more

The Only Place to do real shopping in Utah 1/12/2006

I have shopped in the finest stores in New York, Los Angeles, and London. It was always hard to come back to Utah and be subjected to cheap shops like the ones in the downtown malls. (Excluding Nordstrom and Meier & Frank) When Gateway opened I gladly went and discovered a superb place to shop. There are different varieties of shops for people of all financial and social levels. For younger people there is Abercrombie & Fitch, American Eagle Outfitter, and the Buckle. For more respectable people there is BEBE, Banana Republic, J. Crew, and J. Jill. There are numerous restaurants and a theater, so any and all needs can be met at once. One cant forget Valet Parking offered at 3 different places. Great Place, Good People. Pros: selection, price, enviroment Cons: homeless shelter near more

Good atmosphere, bad construction 6/1/2004

The quality of stores at The Gateway is superb, with quite a bit of variety. The outdoor atmosphere is excellent all-year round (those naysayers frightened of cold or hot weather should move from Utah), providing exercise and a unique shopping experience all in one. Unfortunately, the construction is shoddy, the lighting is horrendous, and the plastic/stucco facade is entirely unappealing. A more post-modern look would have been more suitable. This thing looks like it would be right at home at Lagoon. Pros: Variety of stores, Outdoor atmosphere, Very close to Trax Cons: , Lighting, Can be expensive more

Fun sometimes 5/10/2004

I enjoy visiting the Gateway. There are a lot of good stores, like Abercrombie, as well as the movie theater and restaurants like California Pizza Kitchen. The outdoor idea is fun except for in the winter. It also could use some more entertainment, like the Desert Ridge mall in Phoenix. If you avoid the parking lot, you're good to go. I take Trax sometimes, but if you live in the south end of the valley, it's only worth the trip on special occassions. Pros: good shopping, Megaplex, convenient to Trax Cons: , cold in winter, expensive stores more

This is what I personally like about you 5/28/2003

I like how they perty much have everything that you are looking for. But you need to have more sales!!! Pros: everthing is there, fun, good service Cons: way out there, expensive more

Utah's 1st Full Fledged Ghetto To Be 1/13/2003

The place looks like it was designed to become a ghetto. Cheap stucco construction. Homely buildings. The least attractive project ever built in Salt Lake. Boyer Company is either looking waaaaay into the future or just out to make a quick buck at the expense of the public. Not even a good effort. more

Love it 10/11/2002

The Gateway is great, especially for those who are in town from out of state or have moved into Utah. You are finally able to find clothing stores that exist out of state and no longer to you have to buy these things online. I love the fact that they have FINALLY brought Bebe to Utah! This is definitly the place to find some unique clothes that are chic and sexy. The only drawback is to those who don't want to spend a lot of money on clothing. If that is the case, then Gateway is definitly not for you. Pros: Upscale, Great stores, Good restaraunts Cons: Pay to park, very expensive more

A Great Place For Families! 9/15/2002

The Gateway is a wonderful place for a family outing. The stores may be a bit expensive but for those who don't want to spend money, you can always pack a picnic basket, take some towels, and enjoy the water squirters. If you're there on a good day they might even have music entertainment playing alongside the olympic sculpture! Pros: Great Atmosphere, Good Quality Stores, Great Parking Cons: A Bit Expensive more

Splish Splash! 9/5/2002

Gateway has an amazing fountain that everyone enjoys playing in. That is there best feature going for them. A day is well spent, free of charge, by taking a picnic lunch, spreading out a blanket on the grass and playing in the fountain. Every so often music comes on and an amazing water show (kids included) is performed. It is a great day at low cost! :) Pros: Free, Water Fountain, Parking more

Overrated! 9/1/2002

Very few stores, and even less good stores. As for the outdoor shopping... now way! I went this summer and it was far to hot to enjoy myself. I can't wait to try shopping outdoors in the winter. The cold is the only way you will get me to go into some of the second-rate stores they have though. Pros: not crowded, cool idea Cons: expensive, too few stores, weather more

Outdoor Shopping in Utah?? 8/29/2002

Outside shopping is either too hot or too cold. I prefer the downtown malls. More stores, less walking and perfectly air conditioned or heated builidings. more

Shopping Outside Is Not Overrated 8/28/2002

I thought parking downtown would be a mess. I was wrong. I thought I'd have to fight masses of people on a Saturday afternoon. Wrong again. I thought it would have nothing new to offer. WRONG! In fact, I spent the better part of an afternoon leisurely strolling from store to store, getting in a little sun, and enjoying some Ben & Jerry's ice cream outside. I even ran through the water fountain! Shopping didn't seem like such a chore anymore, and I even found some stores I'd never seen such as Bunya Bunya and Lucky Brand Jeans. I'd do it again...though maybe not in the wintertime...but we'll see! more
