Frozen Custard with Old Time Style 11/5/2008

Our family goes to Liberty on a regular basis for ""ice cream""/frozen custard and a hot dog, though they also have sandwiches, soup, pizza, and now even breakfast from 7 a.m. (waffles, breakfast sandwiches, oatmeal with toppings). In the fall they installed a fireplace and a couple of couches for the winter. The kids love everything about it, and we do, too. Liberty is built into a very clean and refurbished 1950s gas station/repair shop with 1950s furniture and tin signs on the walls. Old Life magazines are on a table and a couple of antique arcade games are available for play. Also, a little, vintage sedan that bumps up and down (as at the front of large department stores) is indoors and is fun for younger kids. Our favorite game is an antique baseball game that plays for a long time for a quarter. The games are family friendly and are not loud. In 2008, Liberty began selling a few types of old candy (like Charleston Chews, Chuckles) and little balsa airplane sets for $1.75 or so. At breakfast, they have coffee, espresso, mochas, etc. and will add a free dollop of custard if you like. I don't know if they have mochas and such at other times of day--maybe. The people that work there are nice. It's a great neighborhood spot that's worth visiting from other neighborhoods. Liberty Frozen Custard is near the intersection of Nicollet Ave S. and Diamond Lake Rd (54th Ave.) in SW Minneapolis. Go a block north on Nicollet from that intersection and it's across from the fire station. And it's just a minute from the Diamond Lake exit from 35W. After you take that exit, just go west on Diamond Lake Rd. one block and then turn right (north) onto Nicollet Ave. and go one block. Oh, and the custard is mmm good. Pros: Unique 1950s atmosphere, tasty frozen custard and food, family friendly, fun place to be Cons: Service is good but not speedy, similar speed to other custard places more

delicious frozen custard, the best sandwiches and soup, fun atmosphere 10/2/2006

I love this place! It is so unique and unusual. The food is excellent, especially the sundried tomato and turkey sandwich. The frozen custard is yummy. I love the turtle sundae-fab hot fudge and caramel plus the best pecans I have ever had. They also have italian ices. Wonderful flavors like mango and strawberry. Pros: great food and custard, cheap prices-big portions Cons: none!! more
