A wonderful tradition lives on 2/2/2009

Having moved to the neighbourhood 2 years ago, we were pleasantly surprised to find a traditional family store still around, surviving the pressure of those big, out of town conglomerate. Despite relatively limited space their selections are amazing and more than satisfy daily basic needs. their meat and wine departments are impressive and commendable. Here is to many more years of success! more

It's the perfect local market. 1/20/2006

(I don't know about credit card minimums or such, but I've personally found the folks there to be super polite even in the face of really surly and drunk folks who wander over from the Leschi marina). In any case, they have the absolute best sausages and a really terrific butcher. They also have really great selections of wine. I got an incredible case of wine there for half price because there was an odd and end left over from their regular supplier. They also now stock organize produce and the like for those of us who simply can't get to the Whole Foods. Finally, on Fridays and Saturdays, they have glutinous prime rib that is just terrific already cooked for you. more

refuses credit card charges less than $3 11/21/2005

We live nearby, so we shop here often. Overall, it's a good store that has a nice selection (given their relatively small size). I especially like that they offer organic products. Recently, I went in to buy some juice for my sick kid and the manager refused to take my credit card or debit card because the charge was below their minimum charge. Normally, I'd pay with cash for such a small purchase, but I had just come back from an international trip and didn't have any cash on me. It's illegal to have a minimum charge, but when I mentioned this, the manager rudely pointed to the sign that read "we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone" and told me "that gives us the right to do it". When I mentioned that this was illegal, he said I was free to leave the store. That's an incredibly rude way to treat your customers. more

Leschi Mart Rocks 8/15/2005

This neighborhood grocery store looks like an ordinary little grocery store until you reach the meat department and the long aisle of wines. There the place goes over the top and you realize you are in the midst of shabby chic. You'll find more than 1500 wines stocked with many handwritten descriptions and ratings dotting the shelves to help you with your selection. You can while away an afternoon in that aisle and best of all the prices are very competitive and you're likely to find wines here from little wineries that you won't discover elsewhere. And then there's the meat department where you will find good old-fashioned handmade sausages and other cold cuts and cheeses. In the italian section you'll find some great italian tomatoes and sauces as well. Best of all the folks that run the place are friendly, helpful and obviously love what they are doing. This store makes the saying "Small and Shabby is Beautiful" come true. more

For the best wine selection in town! 8/15/2005

Leschi has an amazing wine selection crammed into one small grocery aisle. You can choose from a wide variety of regions and prices, with each wine personally tasted by the friendly wine buyer, Ed. Feel free to ask for special requests as Ed has a knack for tracking down even the most hard to find products. The pricing is very reasonable- with discounts given to case orders and if you use your Debit card to pay. more
