The food was good, but the overall experience was lacking - particularly given the cost.\r \r It took more than 20 mins to leave my car with the valet (a requirement on Beacon H...

Refreshingly Good 10/4/2004

Went there for my birthday dinner with my boyfriend and everything was superb. The staff was incredibly pleasant and very informed about everything on the menu. Our waitress took the time to explain the break down of the menu and made suggestions for the appropriate side orders to go with our dishes. We weren't rushed to make decisions about the food nor to finish our meal. The food was excellant; sufficient portions (but not too much), wonderful presentation, and subtle flavors that made each mouthful a true enjoyment. We ordered the baqlava for dessert and were pleasantly suprised by how light it was and how complex the taste was. The restaurant was quiet and the maitre d' provided us with a table situated away from other diners. All and all, it was a great experience from start to finish. Pros: Reasonably Priced, Atmosphere, Friendly Staff more

disappointed 10/3/2004

i arrived at lala rokh for a good friends birthday party expecting to be greeted by a gracious host, instead my party of 10 people was continuously treated with hostility and outright rudeness by the less than gracious manager of the restaurant. we were rushed through our entire dinner, ordered coffee at the end and the manager had the nerve to ask us to leave (not politely at all) 30 minutes before the next party was due to arrive. i have never in my life spent hundreds of dollars at a restaurant only to be treated so rudely for o.k. food and horrible service. needless to say i will never be back. this horrible woman who supposedly manages this restaurant could have handled the situation in a hundred differen ways, instead she chose to be extremely nasty and totally unprofessional. i would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Pros: nice area Cons: , mediocre food more

Great time all around 8/9/2004

Disappointing Experience 2/16/2004

First, no valet (as indicated on the website). Our 7:00 PM reservation turned into a 7:20 seating, with the hostess informing the everyone in the waiting room that it would be ""just a minute."" Now, 20 minutes isn't a long time, unless you're packed in to a little waiting area such as theirs. When we were seated, we were unfortunate enough to be placed near 4 obnoxious women who must have assumed that they were the only ones in the restaurant. (contradicts ""romantic"") Our waiter came over promptly, and then we didn't see him again for 15 minutes; Meanwhile, no drinks had been served in the interim. When our food arrived, it was presented similarly to how I would present a normal dinner at home. Except that at the very least, I use placemats (not paper table-cloth - that you'd find at a pizza place). Overall, for $75.00, I was dissatisfied. more

Dining in Lala land 6/5/2003

Despite the cozy location in Beacon Hill and the excellent service this restaurant provides, very knowledgeable waitress, attentive staff from start to finish, the food was still a bit of a disappointment. I simply could not believe that they would actually serve an olive/walnut appetizer that resembled (note: did not taste like) dog food. The main courses consisted mainly of different type of stew dishes that were tasty but presentation was poor. The ambiance of the restaurant was dull and the editorial review of it being seductive couldnt have been more wrong. Pros: Excellent Service, Interesting flavors more

Wondeful food in a refined decor 3/10/2003

Our meal was excellent. I highly recommend the duck with pomagranate & walnut. The service was one of the best I've seen in this city, unobtrusive, prompt, perfectly timed. The saffron ice cream was worth the trip in itself - delicately sweet, flavored with, yet not overwhelmed by, rose water. The dining room was definitely romantic once the obnoxiously loud birthday group next to us left. For a truly romantic experience, I would recommend going to Lala Rokh on a week night. Pros: Interesting flavors, great service, nice decor Cons: too crowded more

nice...but special?? 1/30/2003

lala rokh is tucked away in a lovely little spot on beacon hill. the food is quite good, but frankly the place didn't live up to my expectations. i don't see why everyone thinks it's so romantic! it's pretty, and the decor is elegant and tasteful, but somehow it's to ""new and pastelly"" to strike me as romantic. also, if you like this sort of food, helmand (afghani place near the cambridgeside galleria) has similar cuisine but with much more sublime flavor! Pros: pretty more

persian delight 12/30/2002

The service was fantastic, and our waitress was extremely knowledgeable about the food. The meal itself was good on whole. The Sir, or sun aged garlic, was drenched in Balsamic vinegar which we were not aware of. It would have been much better without the vinegar. My dish, duck legs with pomegranate and a walnut sauce, was excellent, but the walnut sauce was a bit too heavy and there was too much of it for my liking. The wine selection was descent and the chocolate moose cake was very good. Your files are attached and ready to send with this message. A good restaraunt for a first experience of Persian food. Nice place for couples. Pros: service, atmosphere, reasonably priced more

Romantic and Delicious 12/15/2002

Lala Rokh deserves the praise people have heaped on it here. Ignore the comments about the staff-- we couldn't have had a better service experience. The food and wine were out of this world. Give it a try! Pros: Delicious, Good Service, Romantic Cons: Hard to find Valet more

WOW!!! 11/29/2002

Wow, this place IS all that it's cracked up to be. We were a party that kept growing and they were so nice to accomodate us. The food was unreal and the staff was so informative about the wine list and the menu. Finally when we got the bill we were even more surprised with the reasonable price. We are going back again next weekend with other friends. One thing I would reccomend is using the valet, which we forgot to do. more

Love the Fessenjen 11/7/2002

I have eaten here several times with my father who was in the Peace Corps in Iran in the late 60's. I LOVE the Fessenjen which they prepare with the most tender duck, and he found the rest of the food to be incredibly authentic. The owners and the ambiance are wonderful as well. Pros: Great food, Good atmosphere Cons: Need a reservation more

LaLa is YaYa 10/23/2002

I love this restaurant because the food is excellent and very authentic. BUT the restaurant is definitely NOT romantic (the heading for citysearch) and is not a place of quiet conversation. The seating is quite tight and you can hear every single word from the nearby tables. I am NOT saying it is an unappealing place to eat. It is very nice and very comfortable. The surroundings are very relaxing and the waitstaff is very attentive. This is an excellent restaurant and well worth hunting down a parking space or hiking up the hill. Polite, but daffy greeter. Pros: quality food, good service Cons: parking, table noise more

Got to be kidding !! 10/9/2002

I recently went to Lala Rokh based on the review of this website as a romantic restaurant. I have to say I was totally disappointed. It wasn't romantic at all and food wasn't all that great either. It was too bright, too loud and the tables are too crowded. You can hear every conversation of 7 or 8 tables around you. The Venison kabobs that I had were great but the side of plain/boring grilled veggies were disappointing. I am not giving up on this list just yet though. Cons: crowded, not romantic at all, loud more

exotic, complex, excellent 9/5/2002

Wonderful. Staff was very helpful. Food is always delicious. Excellent more

Good but needs improvement 7/29/2002

Interesting food. All in all a positive experience but could be improved by salting the food less and getting the wait staff to be less attentive. Despite a half full dining room, drinks and dinner felt very rushed by the wait staff, and conversation was constantly interupted. Pros: interestingfood Cons: food too salty, wait staff rushed more
