A group of us are meeting for dinner and then a movie. It's a Wednesday evening, but it's even quiet by weeknight standards at this place. We can see that there is not a single name on the reservation list at the greeter's stand. Not a good sign. We are obviously seated right away and our waiter comes quite shortly thereafter with a helper. (Person in training?) Out of the five of us seated, the two of them manage to get drink orders from two of us before scurrying off. About two minutes later, one of them comes back and asks, "What did you want again?" Nice try at the save.
The evening goes on like this. The final two of our party join us, and wait over 20 minutes for their drinks until we flag down the waiter and remind him. Later on, one of our party is still left without food nearly another 15 minutes after the rest of us have been served. The waiter doesn't even notice this fact until it is pointed out to him. The person missing his meal has lost his appetite at this point and refuses even a comped meal when it is finally offered to him.
The night culminates not with stunning array of bills being goofed up, but the fact that the guy who never ate a meal s handed a bill of nearly $50! At this point, he gets up to talk to the manager. While upset, all the manager can do is explain that he attempted to comp a meal, and that if that wasn't good enough, he was going to be escorted out. That's right, the manager's response was "I can ask you to leave."
So, we did. None of us have ever walked out on a bill in our lives, but we did this night. I'm still stunned by the perpetual ineptitude of the waiter and even more stunned at how the manager chose to deal with it. It wasn't just us; the table behind us was upset at the utter lack of service. The drinks were a disaster. The food was okay, but lost in the horrendous experience.
We're never going NEAR the Kokomo's Island Cafe again.
Pros: Food seemed okay, but not stellar.
Cons: Almost hostile service. A complete wreck.
