Best Indian food in Greater Hartford area 11/7/2011

During the power outage of November, 2011, we needed to find a restaurant which had not lost their electricity to cater a large party. My family and I decided to try Kashmir based upon reviews on the internet. Boy, am I ever glad we did. We had a wonderful, sampler type of dinner. The entire family agreed it was the best Indian food we'd ever had. We then engaged them to cater the dinner party for fifty, and all the food was just as good as if it had been custom prepared for our table. Pros: null Cons: null more

Now a family tradition 4/25/2011

I've been taking my family to Kashmir since my wife and I first met. We've since introduced the place to many friends and family - several of which are now also regular customers. There's enough variety on the menu where it never gets boring: fish, lamb, chicken, vegetarian.... The prices are very reasonable, and we often call in an order for takeout. I highly recommend this restaurant as the food, service, and atmosphere have converted many who were afraid of Indian food into huge fans! more

Awesome food at a great price 10/27/2007

The food is phenomenal (I've been going there for at least 8 years, and I want go back to any other place in Hartford/West Hartford/Rocky Hill/etc. that I've tried). When my wife and I want to impress another couple we take them to Kashmir or we get takeout and invite them over. On top of the aweesome food the prices are very reasonable (they haven't changed since I started going). Main courses are around $9-$10, and that includes all the side dishes (rice, cabbage, chick peas, onion relish). With appetizers and bread, the dinner bill for 4 is the same or less as the bill for 2 at a Chili's or Friday's, and definitely less than for 2 at an Outback or Macaroni Grill... And it doesn't look like much food at first, but you're stuffed at the end! This place is so good, we now have 2 other couples hooked - they go at least once a month each, if not more! Pros: awesome food, great prices, fast & personal service, never too crowded (but never empty) Cons: bad neighborhood (only park across the street or right out front) more

Great Indian food 11/17/2006

This is one of our two favorite Indian restaurants in the Greater Hartford area. It is very small, but almost never crowded during the week. The surrounding neighborhood is marginal at best, but we park in front on the street. On our last visit we each ordered one of the special dinners that include a choice of soup, basmati pilaf, dal, kasundi, steam cabbage, desert and tea. I ordered the tandori chicken which is marinated in yogurt and spices. It was excellent, but I think my wife's lamb marsala was even better. Her's was pieces of lamb curried North Indian style (whatever that means) with tomatoes, onions and fresh herbs. Both meals were more than we could finish. Pros: Good prices, delicious food Cons: Neighborhood is marginal more

Best Indian food in Connecticut 11/14/2006

I've been going to Kashmir for almost four years now, it's the best. The owner/cook is super nice and the price is very very reasonable. Food is North Indian style. My personal favorite is the Lamb Biryani, it's different than other restaurants, the flavor is more subtle (still delicious) Pros: Awesome food, great (i.e. cheap) prices, nice decor Cons: Location (maybe?) more
