Best

My wife and I go here a couple times a year and we love it. Normally we'll sit in the bar area and eat sushi. It's always great! Love, love, love it!

Worst

I'm not a sushi eater so I can't comment on the sushi here, it seems to be what this restaurant specializes in. Went at lunchtime, they have a large sushi menu and even an ""all ...

Do not eat here! The food is by far the worst of any Hibachi place in the Triangle area. The hibachi salmon came out smelling extremely fishy and rotten, and when I informed the server she walked away, came back, and informed me that the manager would give us half off since I already ate the rice. The manager never topped by to apologize. When I went up front to complain to the manager, he insisted that the fish was fresh and that since the rice was eaten the best he could do was half off. This is terrible customer service and it lost the restaurant a hibachi loving customer! more

Editorial review from Citysearch 12/17/2012

Very disappointed in the lack of service provided. I made reservations 9 days prior to our office outting. I specifically requested seating for 25 persons for 7:00pm. We arrived about 6:45 and was not escorted to our table until 7:25. To our surprise the room reserved for my group could not comfortably seat 25 persons. Additional chairs had been \r ""stuffed"" at the table. I asked the waiter if she was sure 25 people could fit and she chuckled and said, ""yes, but i'm not sure how comfortable you will be"". We asked to speak with the manager. We informed him of our concerns and disappointment regarding seating. It was clear that he did not care. His attitude was that of ""oh well"". I couldn't believe what was happening. Not only had I made reservations well in advance, I also called on two other occasion (including the day of) to confirm. \r We politely asked to sit someplace else, and he split the group up in two separate rooms. I was so upset, but already we had waited almost an hour by then, and I didn't know of any other place that could accommodate us on such short notice. My group was so disappointed... Never once did the manager stop by our tables to ask how things were going, and he never apologized about the inconvenience he had caused. It's obvious that ""customer service"" is not very high on this establishment's priority list. BE CAREFUL WHEN PLANNING SPECIAL OUTTINGS, you may want to be sure they understand exactly what your expectations are. \r more

Needs a lot of improvement 7/30/2011

I ordered the steak and shrimp combo. It was mediocre. Also, a Japanese Steak House should not be using frozen baby shrimp in its main courses. This ruined my meal completely. The shrimp appetizer (2 shrimp) was much better. The thinly cut rib-eye was unremarkable and could have used more seasoning. This place is a value for the money if you don't mind less that great food. The chef was entertaining and the service was good the night I was there. The food was just so-so. more

Great food, wonderful staff! 12/14/2010

Despite having read terrible reviews for Kabuki on this website, I decided to go there with a few of my friends for our annual Christmas party. We were seated in a charming room with a warm atmosphere and were attended to immediately. The wait staff was very friendly. When the chef arrived, he started talking with us and performing tricks with his cooking utensils. The entirety of our experience was thoroughly enjoyable, the food was excellent, and I will most definitely be going back to Kabuki for future events. more

Go to Hibachi Express or any other restaurant instead 4/21/2010

This is the first review I've written which should tell you how horrible their food was. On a more positive note, their Sushi may be wonderful since it's not cooked. My mistake was ordering their Hibachi Ribeye and Hibachi Chicken takeout. 1) The salad was mostly yellow lettuce. 2) The soup had no taste. 3) I ordered ribeye medium rare. I received thin strips of flank steak that were well done and not seasoned. 4) Their fried rice was completely dry. 5) The onions were OK. 6) Their noodles were OK, but probably only because everything else was horrible. 7) Their chicken was almost as bad as the beef - extremely overcooked and not seasoned. If you want to try this place, hurry. I doubt they'll be in business much longer unless this place is just a front for laundering drug money. Pros: None - I tried to give zero stars without success. Cons: They don't know how to cook food & false advertising more

terrible service and food 2/22/2010

this was the worst resturant experience i have ever had, the food was way over priced for the terrible quality they served, the server was slow and very frustrating, after spending over an hour and a half at this restuarant he attempted distract me from the fact that tip had already been included, i was extremely angry, i complained to the manager which led to more frustration at her lack of ability to speak english and rude attitude Cons: dirty resturant, service, staff more

Great Show, Great Food & Great Service!!! 9/17/2009

Went there this past weekend and had a great time. Brought the kids and they really enjoyed it. Chefs were very personable and entertaining!!! Service was awesome, drinks never went below half. And the price was very reasonable. We will be back!! Pros: Entertaining Chefs, Good Service, Great Prices, and Clean Cons: Kinda busy on weekends, but worth the wait when there is one more

Family Favorite 2/7/2009

This is our family of four's favorite place to eat. We spend most family gatherings at Kabukis. They treat us with respect and are always considerate. One time for a surprise party for my husband, I asked for a private room. I was not charged extra for the room. They gave us a very enjoyable experience and listened to our requests. We absolutely love their food. They provide you with enough food for two meals. We always leave with doggie bags full. We feel Kanki does not compare at all to Kabuki. It is our hidden jewel. I would definitely recommend Kabuki's to anyone wanting Japanese food. They do automatically add on the tip. Witch I think they shouldn't because we would definitely give them more. Love, Love, Love this place!! more

Worst restaurant we ever ate at ! 1/16/2009

The first thing that went wrong was we odered are food and it took the chef 15 minutes to come cook are food. The second thing that went wrong was when we ordered are food we told them that are daughter had an egg allergy and they said that would be fine they would just cook her food on one side with out eggs. Well the first thing the chef did was broke eggs all over the grill and started cooking everyones food and the put some on my daughters plate. So we told the waitress and she said they would just cook her food in back and that it would take 5 minutes.5 minutes later she came back and said that it would take another 5 minutes because they spechially had to clean so it would be egg free. 10 minutes later her rice came out after everyone in are party was done eating. A few minutes later the rest of her meal came out. I looked at her and asked her if the noodles on her plate had eggs or not. She said she would check and let us know. She came back and said that it had eggs. She said they could make us another order for her. At this point we said no, we would just go some where else to get her food. So any parents where there child has any kind of allergy this is not a good place at all to come eat at. Plus we got home and noticed are daughters tung had spots on it. So the rice they gave her had eggs in it. So after everything she got sick from them making her rice with eggs. That's why this is the worst restaurant ever! more

Very disappointed with Kabuki 1/2/2009

Normally we go to Kabuki to dine in and it's OK. This is the first time we ordered food for pick up and do you believe they charged in the bill 18% of ""tip amount"".\r We were so disappointed. First of all I've never seen a restaurant charge ""Tip amount"" for pick up food at a restaurant since you are going there to get it yourself.....second, tips are not an obligation.\r After this episode it will be hard for us to ever come back there. more

Best Jananese Steakhouse in the Triangle 7/28/2008

Best Jananese Steakhouse in the Triangle. They cook the food exactly as you ask, even if you ask them to leave off the mushrooms!!! :-) I like the fact they give you rice and noodles, most don't in the area. You get enough food for two meals! \r The show is fun for the most part- I think it depends on the people at your table. So, take a lot of people you know and it's even better! \r Staff can be slow to refill drinks and they can be sneaky by including the tip on the bill, regardless of the number of people in your party.\r Overall, nice atmosphere and very good food!! This is the place I go each year for my birthday celebration.\r I would Highly Recommend this place to all my family and friends- actually I do! :-) Pros: Ambience, good food and plenty of it. Cons: Hidden- which might not be so bad. :-), service can be slow and they include the tip-regardless of number in party more

Poor hibachi 5/12/2008

I'm not a sushi eater so I can't comment on the sushi here, it seems to be what this restaurant specializes in. Went at lunchtime, they have a large sushi menu and even an ""all you can eat"" sushi special for lunch. Besides sushi the only option is hibachi - chicken, shrimp, steak or scallops. I ordered the chicken and it was just a plate filled with mostly fried rice with some very dry and overcooked cubes of chicken on top. The vegetables are only a few pieces of zucchini and mostly onion. Every thing is cooked in a lot of soy sauce, this is really the only flavor it has. You get a choice of soup or salad, I got the soup which was just a clear broth with maybe 3 very thinly sliced mushrooms and a few little bits of scallion, nothing special. The green tea was very weak. Service was slow, and there were very few other diners in my section. They didn't automatically add a tip to my bill but I was only paying for one.\r Overall it is below average food and not worth the trip. more

Watch your bill 3/8/2008

Food is good, the service is sometimes slow. However, their biling practices seem unethical. They tip is included on the bill for everyone, not just large parties. However, when they bring you back your credit card receipt for signature, they do not bring you the original itemized receipt showing that the tip was already included. So, unknowingly, people will leave a second tip, essentially double tipping. Make sure you look at your first receipt to see that they include a tip! Pros: food always good Cons: expensive and sneaky with the bill more

Average food, very high prices 3/2/2008

First time going to Kabuki. I placed a to go order. 2 California rolls, 2 Spider rolls (4-5 pieces) and 2 Tempura rolls (4-5 pieces per roll). Made the mistake of not asking for total. Got there and was handed a $50 bill. Basically, I got 16 pieces of California roll, 8 pieces of Spider roll, and 8 pieces of Tempura roll, so basically 4 rolls and California rolls were like 5 bucks. I asked to look over the bill and said I thought the rolls were very pricey. The pricing is confusing and I didn't feel like sitting there to argue. Sushi was average, presentation was weak. Will not be going back, even though I live like 5 minutes from this place. Rip off if you ask me. \r \r Stick with Sushi Thai in Cary, NC, this place is awesome. Shiki sushi in Durham is also very good. \r \r Will never go back to Kabuki.... only tried them because they opened early on Sunday. Pros: Location Cons: Price more

Great Food But View Your Bill Carefully. 4/20/2007

I enjoy the food at Kabuki. I think the showmenship of all the chefs are excellent. I do however always have to debate over my bill when I go. They are determined to get a tip. I don't care if there are 2, 3, 4 or whatever number in my party, they always inflate the party size on the bills and add a tip automatically. I've never known a resturant to add a tip on the bill if the part size is 5 or less and I eat out quite a bit and consider myself a generous tipper. On another website I saw someone say that they used a card to pay and when the transaction cleared , Kabuki had taken out additional funds for more of a tip. I don't know if this is done to everyone or if there is some profling going on but at any rate, they are cheaters so enjoy the great food but check you bill carefully. Pros: Food is great. Less crownded than other similar resturants in the area. Cons: They always cheat on the bill in order to inflate tips. Service isn't that great. more

  • In Short
The restaurant is enormous and labrinthine, with 18 tables in four dining rooms, and the feel is a formal, softly lit elegance that comes off like a stage production on opening...
