this is definitely one of the best bakeries ive been to in detroit area... delicious and tasty pasteries ... i recommend their tiramisu its the best ive ever had... and for those who dont take alcohol for any reason...this one doesnt have any wine in it... their danish pastries are amazing too..and the spinach pastry puff is just awsum...||[]their staff is very friendly and one really enjoys a cup of coffee with a small pastry on a sunny or a snowy day...||[]||[] more

i had come across this site wanting to post a special comment about how WONDERFUL my experience was at Josefs, wanting to comment on how great the new owners are etc... Funny how i go to do that, and I see a disgusting post below mine, about how rude and cocky the new owners are, but NOTHING about the pastries and cakes! Sounds to me like a disgruntled employee, or better yet, someone who does not want to give these fine talented GENTLEMEN a chance to make great patries and baked goods even better! Everything there is AMAZING. The service is lacking. But the product has changed for the better. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK GUYS. I WISH YOU THE BEST!!!! more

Wow, I am soo disappointed in this place, a friend of mine had her wedding cake made here about 5 years ago. She had made a great review for me and my fiancee to try and get our wedding cake made there. So we made a trip out there and was not impressed that the first thing we see is the 'new owner' talking to a customer quite rudely and no one barely greeted us. Then when we said that we had an appointment at 3:30 p.m. we barely get a response, but just to go to the table and look at the books. So after we started looking at the book, we actually 'thought' the owner/chef would come out and talk to us or even one of the girls behind the counters give us some cake samples, atleast, we decided that this place was pretty bad. We just sat there waiting to see if anyone would say anything to us, but even when we decided to get up and leave, we had no one acknowledge us or ask us if we had any questions. Of course not, I should have known now that the ownership has changed and it seems that there are two new younger, quite cocky owners, you would have had to expect the changes. I'm clearly going to make every newly engaged about to get married couple not waste their time here, go somewhere else where there is even a tad better customer service like Sweet Dreams, Room for Desserts down the street from them, instead. Yes, Josef's has AMAZING, yummy treats. In the past year I have ordered my engagement party cake from them, cupcakes for my wedding shower, our actual wedding cake, and a cake recently for my birthday party. So I have spent a LOT of money here in the past year. Unfortunately, EVERY single time the service has been HORRIBLE - absolutely rude every single person we have come in contact with. Part of the problem I believe is the fact that they have young, snotty girls working the front counter. But even the adults we have come into contact with have been less than helpful and always rude - as if we are bothering them. Both my husband and I have experienced this poor service on separate occasions. It is a shame - Josef's has been there forever! I am hosting an upcoming baby shower and am thinking of purchasing my sweets elsewhere because of the continued rudeness I experience with Josef's.... I think it's gross the way they handle the cookies with their fingers to stack them neatly in the box. They use tissue paper to grab some off the stack but once they're in he box they use their other filthy hand to stack them all tthe same way. Id rather they just toss them in the box (wearing gloves) They handle money from who knows who, and then fondle your cookies. Not very sanitary. more

Everyone that grew up in GP in the last 40 years knows Josef's. They have a loyal following! But, over the last 15 years, the taste and quality of their pastries have failed. I remember it being exciting to wait in line for that special dessert, felt like a family ritual. But in the end, the wait was more exciting then the dessert. Walking in to Josef's is an experience in itself. From the smell of all of the luscious offerings, to the friendly staff. You get what you pay for. THE HIGHEST QUALITY BY FAR! Me and my entire family have been shopping with Josef since he opened his doors over 30 years ago. Now my grandkids get their birthday cakes from him, as did my own children. I've ordered everything from bread, pastry, cakes, tortes, my wedding cake, shower cakes, and all our work and home birthday cakes. I also just stop buy every other week and buy some cake or pie or torte out of the case to keep in the refrigerator for noshing. Yummy, they're amazing. And if you get the chance to meet Josef, you're in for an especially good treat. more
